How low will oil prices drop five days before the election?
« on: October 22, 2008, 02:40:45 PM »

For years I had to listen to the talking heads tell me how oil prices are going up because of supply and demand, and now, in a matter of weeks the prices have dropped 50%, Demand is down 2%.

Gas prices are actually falling just as fast if not faster then they went up.
I don't think there is enough time to drop as much as your poll indicates.  2 weeks from now is the election and gas is hovering around $3.00 +/- 20 cents.

I paid 2.79 at Costco on Saturday and see it's down from that already.

See http://www.gasbuddy.com/ for reported area gas prices.

I bought gas at the local Arco for $3.11 (the middle grade).  Two hours later I drove by and a new price was being put up at $2.94 or so for the same grade.

We all should be able to go get a discount.  If it happens in retail, usually you can get the sale price if you have your receipt.

I'm pretty sure that Bush must have flipped that secret toggle switch under his desk back to the "lower gas prices" position.

This isn't anything new tho. Gas almost always come down before a big election.
Then depending on what goes on AFTER that, gas will either go up or stay where it is with the possibilty of it going lower.
I don't see it falling below 2.25-2.50/ gal

In economics, a monopoly exists when a specific individual or enterprise has sufficient control over a particular product or service to determine significantly the terms on which other individuals shall have access to it.[1] Monopolies are thus characterized by a lack of economic competition for the good or service that they provide and a lack of viable substitute goods.

I paid $2.97 yesterday for regular to fill up for my trip to Spokane today.
In Spokane, I saw gas downtown for $2.66.

Wow.

And in the UK they are still paying like $7 a gallon!!!!

In regards to the economy maybe I am looking at things with rose colored glasses, but I think it will be better in November. Every time there is an election gas prices seem to magically drop- at least that is what happened briefly in the last one. Obviously companies need to make some sort of profit, but it has gotten crazy. Who knew we'd be happy to see a station with gas under $4 a gallon?

I posted this back in June--- told you gas would go down near election time. It happened in 2004 too. No Bush should not get credit for it- and he shouldn't have then either.  Prices are manipulated on everything. It is not just coincidence. It is appeasement plain and simple "oh look american fool gas prices are dropping things are getting better- stay the course why change it now?" Duh they pull this kind of stunt all the time. Next we will hear from Bin Laden to ramp up the fear factor. It is all part of the Rove play book- the attacks will roll out faster than a swift boat.

Crap...it's raining now!  Damn that Karl Rove and George W. Bush!  It is their fault.  They lie.  It would be sunny if it wasn't for the global warming that they caused...wait...if there was global warming it would be sunny!!  What??  What is Bush up to now???!!! :o :o
