Senior Republican Senator convicted of corruption charges
« on: October 28, 2008, 12:43:14 AM »

A defiant Sen. Ted Stevens, convicted of corruption charges, said Monday he will fight the verdict "with every ounce of energy I have." He added he will not give up his bid for re-election.

Give it up Ted, save Alaska tax payers some money.

He said he will fight "with every ounce of energy I have"..........Can't be much for an 84 year old.  :P

He is a legend for the people of Alaska, they still might vote him into office even with this felony conviction.
Funny how you can still be in the senate even with a felony.........that's the law.   :-\ :-X

B..O..R...I..N..G..!  Just like the political Gregoire supported lawsuit against the BIAW.

2CENTS, I hope you have the decency to denounce the naked partisanship regarding the BIAW suit. Come on! Hauling a candidate for office to a deposition less that a week before an election? Come on 2CENTS.......retain at least some credibility!

In some states he can.  I saw somewhere just the other day that felons can vote in some state (could have been Rhode Island) with any felony on their record except for non other then ........voter fraud.  :P

I noticed that you have never voiced any displeasure about Clinton/Gore taking millions in illegal money from the Chinese government, no objections to Gary Studds, or Alcee Hastings or to the Jefferson congresscritter, the one with $50,000 in bribe money in his freezer.

Oh, and 2cents, what about getting sweatheart land deals from Tony Resco?   Or investing $1,000 in an investment account and getting $100,000 back by the end of the year?   Ah, not even worthy of an investigation, I see...........

The difference between Republicans and Democrats is that Republicans punish their own, and Democrats try to cover up and deny.

TYPICAL..........

Well Stevens has won re-election.
He may or may decide to resign.
The Senate may or may not decide to expell him.
Although, with the free pass that the Democrat Congressman got for bribery after the FBI found him with $50,000 in his freezer, it will look blatantly partisan if the Democrats in the Senate vote to kick him out.

On the other hand, the Dems might invite him to switch parties.   They are more concerned with expanding their power than in ethics.

Ted Stevens is a "dead man walking".  The people of Alaska voted for a Republican... not a Democrat.  Give the good people of Alaska some credit for seeing more than skin deep.  They know Ted is dead.  They also know a filibuster proof senate is death to their  economy.  With the whole Sarah bashing thing, people tend to think Alaskans are stupid.  They are Americans just like the rest of us.

They voted for what is best for them.  Now.. who will Sarah appoint when he steps down?

Gumby, My Uncle is a Burough Assembleyman (or whatever they call their equivilent of County Commissioners), up in Alaska.   He is a Naderite left-winger.  He believes in the Church of Global Warming, that Nuclear Power is inherently evil, and is a fervent supporter of the Chosen One.

One of  the things that he told me when I was up there recently (on family business, cannot afford a vacation) was that while 80% Alaskans support Palin, only 20% of the Government Workers in Alaska support her.
I cannot think of a better reccomendation.  He was a bit taken aback at this comment........
And yes, he is my favorite uncle.

After Murkoswski appointed his daughter to fill in a vacant Senate seat, Alaska changed its laws about how vacant seats could be filled.

The Democrat that just lost to Stevens is the former mayor of Anchorage, which has about half the population of the state.  It was a relatively close race.   This guy, Grewich (sp?), could possible win against anyone except Palin.    Whomever Palin appoints, if Stevens steps down or is expelled from the Senate, neither of which is certain (but should be!), will have to undergo a Special Election within 60-90 days.   The only person at this point point who would be favored to beat Grewich (Sp?) would be Palin.

So there will much national pressue among the Republicans for Palin to try to take the Senate seat.

And in terms of Alaskan politics, it is better to think in terms of Libertarian and Naderite-Socialist rather than Republican and Democrat.

Why not?  He's more qualified than Obama was when Obama was gifted with Mosley-Braun's seat.

Whoa!!! Why did you have to take it there?  Maybe your problem is you are electing criminals, it shouldn't have anything to do with the color of his skin.

SHe said; "Todd is part Native Alaskan, so we have to put up with that everyday up in Alaska"

If only AA voted for Obama he would of Lost in the worst loss EVER!!!  Thank God for the "Whites" who voted for him ;)

hing to do with the color of his skin.

Nah, I wanted to elect criminals, I would vote Democrat and support Gary Studds, Alcee Hastings, that guy Jefferson who was arrested by the FBI with $50,000 in cash in freezer, Barney Franks whose gay lover ran a call boy ring out Barney's house in DC, and the rest of those guys.

Since Obama won, and has already appointed two of the most partisan of all democrat party apparatchiks to positions of power, it is clear that George Soros will never be investigated and the Obama Campaign donation records will never be made public for proper vetting.

No surprise at any of that.

And anyone who does not know about George Soros, what he has done aganst the US economy and why, well, I could say that they do not know enough to be able to cast a proper ballot, but since Obama is a Chicago Machine baby, the flip side is that they probably voted several times.

Republicans get rid of theirs.    Democrats elect theirs to Congress and fight about making him - Hastings - a committee leader.
