I WILL BE BACK SOON! GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!
« on: November 04, 2008, 11:38:45 PM »

...I am not here to gloat (gman) lol even though you know I am dying to say "DKA" lol lol

...I am not here to bash JM (he gave one hell of a great speech just now)

...I am overcome with emotion, and I am sorry if you do not understand. It is hard to understand someone else's life if you do not live in their shoes.

...All I want to say (between the tears and the sobbing), is that this is a great day in American history (regardless of who you rooted for). Lets get back together, and lets help our country get back on its feet...

...LOVE YOU ALL!  No matter WHO you rooted for...

LETS GET BACK TO SOCCER SOON ;)

Dragon out ;D

I wish our new President Barack Obama nothing but the best.  May his wisdom be solid and his judgement be sound.  :)

An historic day indeed... not just for the US, but for the world.

It would be absolutely fitting if the Republicans did exactly what the Democrats did in the Senate ever since Bush was elected....

Obstructionism, sabotage, and encouraging defeatism.

But I do not encourage Republicans to take that tack for the next two years.   Let's give President Obama a chance.   The one thing that he has demonstrated is that he is a very good politician.

I have little doubt that 2010 will become a repeat of 1994.

Obama simply cannot keep most of his campaign promises, the US Government is running out of credit.  It is looking at a trillion dollars or more in borrowing just in the current 12 month cycle.   Unfortunately, what Obama can do on the cheap is to terribly damage the standing of America abroad by doing things like pulling out of Iraq and waving the White Flag.  Giving up on the pressures that the US has been exerting against Iran (terrorism and nuclear ambitions), North Korea (nuclear weapons and terrorism), Russia (rebuilding the Russian/Soviet Empire), various South American states (Terrorism, narcotics, and the local strongman's aim to become a "President fo Life" type dictator), backing down to China, reversing course on free trade, legitimizing terrorists like Hamas and Hezbollah, and so on.........

Europe - particularly "Old Europe" - is perfectly willing to give the free, democratic nations of the Ukraine and Georgia to Russia.  Shades of 1939......  Without a strong American President who values freedom and independence more than kissing up to dictators and fascists,  Old Europe will get its way.  For a while, of course, only for a while.   Just like at Munich.

For anyone who doubts the negative effects of these actions, look at the consequences of the US abandonment of VietNam and Somalia.  Obama Bin Laden among others pointed out that the Clinton withdrawal from Somalia following "Black Hawk Down" showed the world that the USA was a paper tiger and could be run out of the middle east.   And remember how long it took for Iran to release the Embassey Hostages once Reagan became president after their thumbing their noses at the weak Carter.

On the other hand, many Americans, including many conservatives, would be happy to see America retreat from the world.   A new form of isolationism.   Which will last until there is a nuclear or biological 9/11.  And then there will be another white washing investigation, to absolve the liberals and the beaurocrats who were responsible.

China makes a habit of challenging American Presidents soon after they take office.    Watch the Spratley Islands, that is a fairly obvious move by their part.  Taiwan would be a bit too much.

Obama has proven to be a consumate politician.   That is a good characteristic in a President, and one that both Reagan and Clinton had.  Obama has shown no other quality, so we must all hope that he will recognize the need to play to his strength and try to keep everyone as happy as possible instead of following through with some of his insanely fiscally irresponsible campaign promises.

Now that King County has announced that they will submit their ballot tallies after everyone else, it is clear that Gregoire will win.

That will mean that the recession that has hit the rest of the country will come to Washington, and the anti-growth policies of Olympia, the anti-job policies will continue.

My business has been hit with several rounds of additional regulatory and tax expenses and requirements over the last two years.    So far I have held the line and absorbed the costs in my business (low income housing rental)   Tomorrow, I am going to announce an increase in rents by 10%.  That will not cover the increase in costs over the last two years.   I will also point out to the tenants that if the expenses continue to increase, I will be forced to increase rents by at least another 10% in 2009.

Many of my tenants are fixed income senior citizens.   Others are single mothers with kids.   Many low income families.   With the current economy in our region, and the current finnancial situation nationwide, these people do not have lower cost options.    My business has very full occupancy rates, and we will continue to do so even after the rents are increased.   I have been turning away people because I do not have vacancies.

If Gregoire and the rest of the Olympia politicians and beaurocrats continue to beat down on small businesses, we will see the least advantaged people in this state being the most negatively affected.

As folks know, RamaBama is with Dragon on this one  (even though Barack did not make me his running mate  ....  Obama-Ramabama had a nice ring ...  he did okay with Joe).

I've actually voted for plenty of Republicans at all levels  . . .  even contributed to their campaigns over the years.       It is hard for me to imagine a scenario where the next years will be as bad as what we've seen the past years.   Having said that, McCain has always been a standup, good guy.

Let's give him a chance, and let's give the government an opportunity  (hard to believe I even said that, as I'm not a proponent of big gov).   Clearly, what we've been doin' ain't been working.

Time to look through the front windshield and not the rear-view mirror.

Congrats to all

Well said, RamaBama!

We had two very stand-up gentlemen running for president this year...congratulations to both on great campaigns.  Obama...I am proud to call you Mr. President!

I can say that in this election, some of my votes went the way I hoped while others did not.  Either way, I did my part, voted and supported the candidates I believed in.  Moving forward, I will continue to support all of those who were elected to their positions because..."we're american, cuz we live in america...the best country on the planet" (thank you Talladega nights for that one)

I hope all Americans support our President no matter who they voted for.  United States of America, NOT Divided States of America.  ;D

And I am very happy to see Dragon back.

Given the unified obstruction, attacks, and vile criticism by the left and Democrats of George W. Bush for nearly 8 years, calling now for support of Obama on the basis of some patriotic duty is grotesquely hypocritical.  The polarization in America today is not the result of conservatism, but of liberal unfairness and relentless attacks lead by the mainstream media and groups like MoveOn.org since Bush won Florida in 2000.  Winning an election does not excuse or justify such a call on behalf of partisans who attacked McCain, Palin, Joe the Plumber, and thousands of Republicans nationwide with the most vile and unsupported charges possible.

That said, I will respect the decision by the majority who has elected Barack Obama.  He is my president.  That said, I will not support policies by a new administration that will destroy our energy policy, the coal industry, and cause gas and electricity prices to increase to levels that will harm Americans.  I will not support Cap and Trade policies that will extort trillions from business and our economy based on the Global Warming hoax.  I will not support the abandonment of free trade policies and a return to protectionism.  I will not support the selection of federal judges that would ignore the law and constitution to legislate based on emotion and philosophical beliefs.  I will not support expansion of abortion to legal 3rd trimester abortions or expanded use of partial birth abortions.  I will not support policies to take wealth from the earners and expand the welfare state with other people's money.  I will not support dangerous foreign policies, surrender in Iraq or Afghanistan, the fairness doctrine, or the repeal of cloture rules in the senate.

I will keep an open mind as long as it is justified.  I will hold Obama to his campaign promises.  But at the same time, I will hold him accountable for the results of  his policies, whether in regard to energy, taxes, spending, or social decay.  I would also expect his supporters, once over their jubilation at their successful revenge against Bush, to hold Obama to those promises too, and hold him accountable for his actions as president.  I would hope that his supporters would also use their own judgment, and not rely on an incredibly biased media to tell them what to do or how to think about Obama policies.  And if Obama turns out to be the leader that McCain supporters believe he will be, I would expect all Americans to give him his deserved feedback and eventual boot in 2012.

Democrats have no one to blame anymore.  The lowest rated Congress in history, with half the approval that Bush has and two years already of zero accomplishments, is now on the hook to accomplish something, or take the heat with no one else to blame.  If things improve, congratulations.  If they get worse, then Americans will know that the left has no real ideas to improve anything, and that being a good politician promoting hope and change doesn't mean a thing if all the ideas and policies are wrong for America.  America is about to get a real lesson in liberal governance.  Sometimes people need a slap in the face to wake up.  I believe we're all about to get a serious smack!

Read this column in today's Wall Street Journal and reminisce the treatment that Bush has received for the last 8 years.

I think pretty much everyone gave Bush a chance.  He was at something like 89% approval rating after 9/11.
He just didn't bring the war to a close, if he had I think many would still give him a good approval.

Obama will hopefully bring diversity up to where it is embraced by ALL Americans.  I truly hope this will bring down some of the walls that should have been taken down decades ago and we can be united as a Americans and not divided by differences.

Dragon,

The conservatives and moderates on this forum are vastly more gracious than the liberal Democrats, the Social Progressives, the enviromental wackos, and all that ilk (The early Obama Supporters, by an large) were when Bush won in either 2000 or 2004.   You even have the ignorant on this board still eroniously thinking that Bush stole the election in 2000 in Florida.    As every intelligent person knows, Bush won despite the shennigans of the Democrats and the Clinton administration.

No one has called for or plotted the sabotage of the Obama Administration here.  No one has called for a fillibuster of his policies.

As I said before, Obama has a great skill as a politician.  He has done something no Republican has ever done, and defeated the Clinton Machine.  But it is funny that even many who voted for him are earnestly hoping that Obama is more a politician than a person of integrity, and jettisons most of his campaign pledges.  Indeed, many people voted for him with that expectation......

Quite the opposite Gumby, I hope he is successful because I love my country. The point of agreement with HandBall is that from the word go....the left was out to DESTROY George Bush.... not defeat him, but destroy him. The tactics the left use to destroy conservatives are deplorable and if any conservative used those kind of tactics, I would call them on it. The same can't be said for liberals, they stand by silently while Sarah Palin is accused of "posing" as baby Trig's mother to cover for Bristol Palin.

I think that the majority of conservatives are much more open to giving BO a chance...from the very beginning all the Dems and Libs said was "Bush Lied..."  and from that moment forward, Bush was responsible for everything that went wrong in this country...even global warming! :o

Sorry, but this is not a dictatorship...Congress passes laws and legislation.  That is why even though Congress has a much lower approval rating than Bush, people still refuse to blame anyone but him for whatever ills this country faces.  In fact, were not Obama and McCain in the Senate during all this!!?? Hmmmm...

By the way, Obama has already lied when he reneged on his agreement regarding campaign funding.  Should we start off his Presidency with "Obama lies"??  I think not...that would be devisive...and totally unfair.  He needs time to get his feet wet and take appropriate steps.  And during that time, I will do whatever I can to make him and this country successful...he is our President.  He is my President...as was George Bush...as was Bill Clinton.  But, as our President, Barack Obama will need to be held accountable for his promises and his policies.  God Bless Amercia!  As with any election, it is a GREAT day to be an American!!

As I said before, I do not encourage any Republican or Conservative to engage in concerted sabotage of the Obama Presidency, like the liberals did to Bush.  All Americans need to give Obama a chance to reneg on his campaign promises and try to do what is right for the country.

If JM would of won I would wish him the best of luck and then I would of stopped talking politics for at least a couple years. LOL

But rest assured I have supported ALL the presidents in my life time, rather I like them or not. I may not agree with everything they say or do, but I do agree that they have all been fairly good leaders for our great nation.

My favorite Prez's in my mind have been:

Ford (was sad he never got elected)
Bush Senior
Clinton (the first term) LOL
and Regan (both terms)
I hope to add Obama to my list ;D

Here is some interesting data.

Vote by Race

% of total votes       Obama             McCain        Other/No Answer
White                          74%                         43%                    55%               2%
African-American          13%                          95%                     4%               1%
Latino                           9%                          67%                   31%               2%
Asian                             2%                         62%                    35%               3%
Other                            3%                         66%                    31%               3%

The heck with looking at race as any factor in the election.   Let's take a look at male-female voting ratios since women were given the right to vote.   If memory serves, only Reagan and FDR ever had the majority of female and male votes.  Normally - like in this election - women and minorities vote in favor of the party of government handouts.  Men vote more in favor of the party that wants to increase the creation of wealth in this county.   Interesting.

Since you ask:

National Exit Poll
17,836 Respondents 1 of 7

Vote by Gender

Total % of voters        Obama      McCain     Other/No Answer

Latino Women                                (5%)                    68%         30%                2%
All Other Races                              (5%)                    64%         32%                4%

I think you have 3 partially false premises here.

First, "Normally - like in this election - women and minorities vote in favor of the party of government handouts."  In fact, white women voted strongly in favor of McCain.  In this case, your thesis does not fit the fact.

Second, that Democrats are (solely) the party of government handouts.  Well, they certainly give enormous handouts, but unfortunately Republicans are no slouches either.  It just goes to the better connected than you and I.  Incidentally, the biggest entitlements are this country are Social Security and Medicare.  Almost no one wants to touch those.

Third, that the Republicans are the party of wealth creation.  Wealth consolidation, yes.  Wealth creation probably depends more on a healthy middle class.

Anyway, I've always enjoyed your posts.  Its good to hear from you.

Well,  it does actually look like I was right.

Women and minorities voted in the majority - including white women - for Obama and the Democrats, who make a central point of their support for entitlements.

Overall, blacks voted for Obama on the order of 95%.   The figures show that if no black votes were counted or no womens votes were counted, McCain would have won.

NOW DO NOT MISINTERPRATE this post.  I do not think that women should not be allowed to vote.  I do not think that blacks - or any one else based on skin color, religion, ethnicity, or such - should not be allowed to vote.

This is a discussion on voting patterns.  No one is advocating that a voter must be a white, male, prodestant, property owning man over 21 to be able to vote.

Personally, I would like to see a break down of the American-Sikh vote.   (No, that is not a joke.) Seeing how their cultural and religious values translate into a voting pattern would be illuminating.

Numbers can be looked at many different ways to show whatever you want.....good or bad.

Here in Washington we have generally voted Democrat.  If we just take a few dominate Democrat states out of the mix then McCain would have won.  Infact lets take away The entire West coast and East coast.  McCain would have had just about 100% of the electoral votes.

The point is all of us, Black, White, Hispanic, Asian, Jewish....whatever.  We all make up the United States of America and all have equal voting privileges.  As long as we are allowed to vote we will.  Majority wins.
