U13 State Leagues
« on: September 15, 2005, 02:16:27 PM »

Just wondering what others think about this.  Looking at last weekend's U13 results, there were a number of lopsided gains.  Is there any particular reason for having state leagues based on a random draw?  The end result is that like quality teams do not end up playing one another.  Last year, Crossfire BU13 James went 14-0 in league, I believe, and ended up outscoring their opposition something like 81-3.  Teams like the Cobras and Timbers would seem to have it better in that they're now playing their second year in a P1 Oregon league.  My son's team's experience was a very competitive district league last year, and quite the opposite this year.  I'm sure there's a reason for the state league at U13, I'm just not sure what it is.  Could someone explain?

Honestly famj it is just a random draw for the most part. I think the clubs and the state could be better served by submitting the status of their teams and an honest level of play they belieev they are.

This way teams like Crossfire, FC United, ECity, Snohomish, Spokane, and the many other large clubs could maybe be in the top 2 leagues of the 4 state leagues, and the other 2 state leagues could be a bit more random. Making the level of play a bit more realistic, and making for less lopsided results.

I'm positive their answer would be ..."It's too much work" LOL

If you are trying to say that a few clubs should always be in the top two leagues, then UGH!   That should NEVER happen.   That will only keep teams like Silver Lake Spirit GU14; FC Alliance GU13; Rainiers BU16; Marauders GU14 etc from playing in these leagues.  IF they go to something like this, then it HAS to be based upon the team history and current players. NOT what club they are in.  I have heard this argument before.  And contrary to those who think we should have some super club in this state (Stupid, Stupid idea), this would not serve the teams of this state the best.
Yes, there are too many lopsided games.  But, coaches are not looking at U13.  They could care less what happens at U13 (if they are smart at least).  What is important is U14.  Coaches WANT to play these big teams. They want to go up against the best so that their team gets better and knows how to play against them.  Why, so that when LPTs come, they might (just might - OK very slim chance) be able to place higher than if they just play against teams of their own caliber.

So, even if clubs/teams submit their status, it will not be totally honest as the coaches and clubs want their teams to be placed high. Remember, U13 is the throw away year for most of these teams (though most coaches will not talk about it in that way).  Yes, this might not sit well with the parents who have to sit through these lopsided games, but that is the reality of the situation.

I didn't mean super clubs....In fact I meant somehow clumping the top teams. If Silverlake or FC Alliance or Highline have a top team, then they should be in one of the top leagues.

The problem now is the differences between some teams at U-13 can lead to a 8-0 game. I think it's terrible teams from Spokane or even Silverlake drive anywhere from 3-6 hours to have those sort of games.

You're right that no coach wants to be a lower league, but to be honest. No team learns anything from a loss that's anything over say 6-0

I think at times the district leagues are fine...even if they did it again at U-13. I mean having the state leagues serves what purpose at U-13....seeding ummm 8 teams of so for LPT's?
