We have to listen to the BAD as well as the GOOD...

Sometimes Dragon's gets emails and never posts them.  This one though has been sent a couple of times from an anonymous source.

Here is the Email unedited:

....WYS will not allow the SPVJSA clubs to hold their tryouts at the same time as shadow/SYSA....they are making them hold it 14 days later then shadow/SYSA......Even though what USSF stated below.....the prez has said he would help out but he has done NOTHING!!!! ALL TALK!!!!!!....
......Maybe if you can get this out WYS will rectify what is wrong and put the tryouts back at the same time....

USSSF---The appeal's panel would like to not that after reviewing the case, the punishment handed down by WYSA both against MR. Smits and Spokane Valley seem unduly harsh. There was no specific evidence in the record or referenced in the decision that appears to justify such severe discipline. While the panel recognizes that it does not have jurisdiction over the punishment of Spokane Valley, it is concerned about what appears to be an arbitrary decision to the great detriment of one club. In the future, the panels recommends that WYSA make is clear that tryout dates are mandatory and that violatin of those dates will result in  severe consequences to the club and club administrators.----

.....SEEMS UNDULY HARSH!!!!!
.....AN ARBITRARY DECISION TO THE GREAT DETRIMENT OF ONE CLUB!!!!!

I know that tryouts around here are overlapped, overlapped and overlapped and trying to hit more than one is almost impossible.... But there are multiple Clubs vying for the kids.

Yes they all want "first pick" but if your Club has what it takes, they would be first pick anyway, right?

So why can't they all be held at the same time?
Seems to me, someone is worried about keeping their rosters full.

It's all about locking players in as early as you can.

So, I have to ask.  What was Spokane Valley's "crime" they were being punished for?

If it was holding tryouts before opening day (for lack of a better term) then one year of Spokane having the same advantage seems pretty fair to me.

If WYS is trying to make this a permanent thing, then the crime would have to had been extremely dire indeed.  :o

I heard that although Spokane Valley Jr Soccer Assn was informed that the dates were too early, they did not tell the clubs to change their tryout dates. Why should the CLUBS be penalized for following what the WYS association recommended?  Spokane Soccer Club (Elite) and River City Soccer Club fell under their jurisdiction, and were following their guidelines.

Spokane Shadow, belonging to Spokane Youth Soccer Assn, must be giddy with joy...gut feeling leads me to the suspicion that they may have had a bit of influence on this harsh punishment...

Anyone who was at the Soccer Summit in Spokane last year will remember the one club that was referenced as possibly being the designated Eastern Washington club in the PDL, and that was the Shadow.

Perhaps if the valley clubs would switch to English coaches, they might be in better favor??? ;)

As I understand it, the association failed to prevent clubs belonging to the association from having their tryouts 3 days before the designated period.   Again, from what I understand, these clubs had already had arrangements in place - and publicised the tryouts - before the state came out with its proclamation on tryout dates.

As a practical matter, the same board and leadership that handed out the severe penalties - which are more than have been highlihgted on this thread - is still in power and running things.   Looking for a change by them is rather silly, despite the repuke by the (District IV?) judicial board.

One interesting question that is answered, if only by lack of reference, is that aparently the state does have the authority to regulate all tryouts for all clubs over all circumstances.  (including retroactively).  The answer to that question is certainly worth knowing.   It helps clarify the role and status of the state vs club, state vs association, power roles.

Annonymous E-mailer must either be a SpVJSA Board Member or one of the affected Clubs Coaching Directors.  Some of the information contained has not been widely distributed (even I dont have a copy of the actual decision text) and the discussion about Doug might helping out was discussed at the last board meeting but has yet to be published in minutes.

As I understand the decision WSYS imposed, tryouts for the three clubs (only two of which had tryouts outside the recommended guidelines) would occur 14 days after the last state cup game.  Given the grace period, this is only 9 days after the Shadow have their tryouts.  The pushback of the tryouts will affect the select teams the most as because of the staggered nature of tryouts in SpVJSA their tryouts will start almost a month after the last state cup game is played.

WSYS also placed the SpVJSA board of directors on probation and suspended the President.

USSF overturned the suspension of the President based on the fact that the suspension was imposed before a hearing was held.  They did not have jurisdiction over the probation or the tryout restrictions as it was not a denial of participation.

I believe SpVJSA and Doug are going through the proper process and we will just have to wait and see what the outcome will end up.
