Come on Couv!   Where is all the fatricidal infighting that everyone else in the state has come to treasure and love?    :drinks:

the Timbers WERE Nike....they have switched to Adidas starting in 2012.  We were told not to buy anymore Nike gear.

It should begin shortly.  (Sort of like the GOP circus circling South Carolina that you (EW) speak so fondly about). It is my hope that we can then  finally put together teams at every age group that will compete for state titles instead of contending for the family feud honors.

By the way, certain kudos needs to be sent to some hard working foks.  If it was simply just ordering Adidas uniforms, then we would be ignoring efforts that began several years ago.

so when does this "big announcement" happen. seems the word is out as to what's involved. just lacking details. bigger question is will the couve get better coaches? and what coaching changes will there be? when will that become common knowledge to the public?

my source won't give me an exact date.....she said before March 1st though....something is going down....and it sounds as though it could reshape soccer in SW Washington.

Well it appears that it has arrived.  Anyone care to predict how it will change the landscape except as to require Timbers to change their uniforms.  Will parents of younger kids even understand the implications? Where is King David to explain it all to us.

Let's hope that however this works out, we finally end up with only 1 "Premier" club in Clark County, regardless of what the name of that club is. We owe it to the kids to let the best play with and against the best.

We used to have only one premier club in vancouver, until people go upset at leadership and broke off to form there own.... so even if we did go back to 1 premier club I would say in another ten years we would end up with another split. To many egos.

Well, which system worked better?  All of these "Izzy" choices or the former monoply in terms of state championships.  How are the teams doing this year in state cup, especially the boys (as the girls seems less likely to fly the coup)?

I was always a proponent of having just 1 premier club in vancouver. However I dont know the statistics as to which model has had more state champions.

You mean, as they say in Texas, "all (big) hat and no cattle".  I agree the announcement has been delayed too long.  I got tired of drumming in anticipation and told his Majesty on Monday over beers and two different international soccer games on tv.   (A bar called the Main something or rather in downtown Couve, across the street from the Dublin Pub, supports Portland Timbers.  This city has changed much for the better in 30 years.  I digress).

I understand the Timber GM has not pulled the trigger with details.  Since the little people have no leverage in the situation, we wait patiently.........By the way, his Majesty did disclose someone from his board reads this blog because they are calling him King David and he did not know where it came from.  That cost me a few beers.

Good luck to Pacific in Semis in BU16.  The coach and boys have done a nice job keeping it local.

Of course, I had fun watching the younger boys from Pacific (U12/U13?) playing last week.  Coach Bob has kept them together and even pulled a good coach from Timbers to help him.  These folks are a well oiled machine--right managers?  Even have managed to prod my brother into action.  Too bad, no state tournament.  Maybe next year. Alberto will help with some technical skills--just do not pay in advance and do not follow standard time.  The team reminded me of the 90 Timber team that was in 5 State Finals with his Majesty (and others).

What's funny is the amount of people that already know about the bigger picture. At this point the details almost don't even matter. The so called announcement will be such a ho-hum event it's embarrasing. Timbers should just put on their Red & White Timbers kits and get on with it. The kids are looking a little ratty out there in their old Nike kitz. Maybe the King of Couve should make his own proclimation? ;D

Hey Vantucky!

I'm looking for a nice motel in Camas next week, have to attend a seminar.   The online sites say there are no motels or hotels in Camas, just in Vancouver and Portland.    Anyone know Camas and have a recommendation?

Camas does have a hotel you might try downtown.

I personally would stay at Heathman Lodge in Vancouver--10 minutes from Camassssss.  Great hotel.  Great food.

If you were not so conservative, I would have invited you to my home.  I am afraid you would hide all the contraceptives and put bibles everywhere.  The new GOP party.

The only thing I have against contraceptives is that they are not fool proof.   I have four kids to prove it!   And I will let others thump on their bibles, me, well I keep my bible on the book shelf, by the copy of the Koran, which is next Il Principe, which is next to the Kama Sutra, which is next to Das Kapital, which is next my collection of the IISS Military Balance annuals.   (I probably need to arrange my books better....)   The wall above that bookshelf has a Jeff Sturgeon original (metal) science fiction space scape of multiple planets - so I do not believe that the Earth is flat, either.  I know where the books are because I have a computer by them......
In regards to the Heathman Lodge, since I will be getting in at 11 PM or later, and checking out at 6 AM, I doubt that I would have a chance to try the food.  But when I have the chance to spend more time in the Couve, I will check it out.

Camas Hotel, a romantic hotel in the heart of downtown Camas, is a delightful romantic getaway spot, located only ten minutes from the Portland airport, with ...5 Google reviews - $79?

You can drive East and North of there and you will run into many other confused conservatives in God's country.   In that neck of the woods, do not mention soccer, do not tell the hill people that the earth is round and carry your bibles with your guns.  Timber(s) are the plural for what they cut down rather than a sports team of third worlders.  Their cars are not red from paint but rather from the carcass in the backD
As long as you espouse keeping women (excuse me, girls) in the kitchen at home, you will not join the carcass in the back.  Just don't be from communist Portland or Seattle.
In terms of the Kama Sutra, this gang may get too excited and you may not want to be there.  Think Deliverance and pig sounds/banjo music.

OK Couve! In anticipation of the pending announcement by the Portland Timbers regarding their affiliated clubs how, if at all, will this change the current soccer landscape in Southwest WA? So other than snazzy uniforms:
- What are the non affiliated clubs thinking? Is this a threat? What actions, if any, are clubs doing in preparation?
- The DA program will certainly attract the top few percent of boys from each club. The VUSA Timbers Boys program has slipped a little in the recent past. Will this be enough to turn things around for the once dominant VUSA Timbers boys program? Will boys flock to VUSA to be part of something that has a MLS connection?
- What does this all mean for the girls of Southwest WA? It appears that most, if not all, the efforts will be focused at OR ODP for the girls. So how does anything change / improve for the girls?
- Is WA ODP better and should we still be shipping our kids to the WA EPD program @ Starfire (Sounders FC sponsored)
- What better training options do the PDX Timbers bring in this foray into youth soccer for SW WA? Do we as a community get an influx of new Coaches? Or is it the same old boring thing repackaged?
- I've seen posts stating that SW WA soccer as we know it is about to change! Heck one poster even created a name "revolutioniscoming". Guess that person is pretty excited. Why? ..... all I hear is that soon enough we will all know! Do people really think this is revolutionary?
What you say?

In terms of the Kama Sutra, this gang may get too excited and you may not want to be there.  Think Deliverance and pig sounds/banjo music.

Ah it sounds like my kind of place.   Not filled with transgender, transnational progrssives who want open borders, open marriages, and to open everyone else's wallets for their pet welfare projects.   The kind of place where a man is determined by his character, not which boxes he checks on a census form so that the government can pigeon hole him into racial, ethnic and religious sub-groups.   The kind of place where marriage is between a man and women or at least one woman, not between a man and a man or a man and a goat.  The kind of place where vigilante is not a slur but an appelation worn with pride, and gangs prefer to be elsewhere.
I would not want to stay in a place like the People's Republic of Portland where NIMBYs rule, fuzzy thinking is required, and community activitist is a respected job.  Or the Socialist State of Seattle, which wants to tear out the dams that power their cappucino machines but refuse to do anything about the Ballard Locks.   Where they believe that rent control is the solution to housing problems.   Where welfare is a generational lifestyle.

PORTLAND, Ore. — The Portland Timbers today announced the formation of the “adidas Timbers Alliance,” a strategic partnership with elite local youth clubs in the Timbers’ development territory, designed to build unique working relationships and development opportunities to help channel the top youth players towards the Timbers’ development programs and the Timbers Academy.

Additionally, the Timbers announced the three clubs to join the adidas Timbers Alliance in the Eastside Timbers (formerly Eastside United FC), Vancouver United Timbers (formerly Columbia Timbers) and Westside Timbers (formerly Westside Metros).

“Each of these clubs shares a passion and a vision for developing youth players and providing elite opportunities for youth,” said Timbers Academy Director Mike Smith. “These clubs are excellent community ambassadors for the sport and excel at player development.”

As part of the alliance, the Major League Soccer club will share coaching resources and curriculum with alliance clubs in the development of both boys and girls youth players. Additionally, youth clubs in the alliance will be allowed the unique privilege of incorporating the Timbers brand into their club name and wear a special adidas Timbers Alliance badge as part of the uniform. On the field, each alliance club will wear the same color jerseys – red and white – in recognition of the partnership with the Timbers.

“While a partner with the Timbers, the adidas Timbers Alliance clubs will continue to maintain their own identities and will continue to be leaders, both on and off the field, within their own communities,” said Smith.

"The United States has some of the best athletic talent in the world and it’s our goal to provide homegrown athletes with opportunities to play elite soccer," said Antonio Zea, director of soccer for adidas America. "With our recent extension of the Major League Soccer contract, we have put the importance of youth development at a premium and are excited about helping create youth club alliances with local MLS clubs. This partnership between the Timbers alliance clubs, the Portland Timbers, and adidas will prove to be a great step in developing the next generation of American soccer icons."

Each of the three youth clubs in the adidas Timbers Alliance have strong relationships with their respective park districts, namely Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District (THPRD), City of Gresham Parks and Regional Recreation, North Clackamas Parks & Recreation District and Vancouver-Clark Parks & Recreation, and are valued members of their respective communities.

The Timbers Academy will commence this fall, with teams competing in the U-16 and U-18 age brackets of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy. Timbers Academy teams will compete in the Northwest Division against other elite youth teams in the region, including academy teams from MLS clubs Seattle Sounders FC and Vancouver Whitecaps FC. The teams will also be a part of the annual Generation adidas Cup, facing off against academy teams from across MLS. Currently, the Timbers have established six Regional Training Centers, in partnership with Oregon Youth Soccer Association (OYSA) and Oregon’s Olympic Development Program (ODP), providing elite training and competitive opportunities for boys throughout the state at various age groups.

Youth players from across the Timbers development territory, not just affiliated with an adidas Timbers Alliance club, will have the opportunity to try out for an Timbers Academy team or a place in one of the Regional Training Centers in late summer or early fall.

Additionally, the Timbers have future plans to form an elite girls division as part of the Oregon’s ODP program and the club’s academy structure.

It means "game over"  time to consolidate and dominate!
I have one child within the VUSA ranks and two at FC Portland....this will have me move my family under one roof....  GO TIMBERS!

I would hope that the local clubs in Clark County will help in the development of the youngers so that they will be prepared to be a VUSA Timber....when that happens you will see SW Washington become a Regional Powerhouse!

Although this may offer good opportunities for elite players (which I respect), I am disappointed in this news.  As a Timber's season ticket holder and one of their biggest advocates (but with kids that play for clubs outside of the chosen three), I'm upset that the Portland Timbers chose to give just an elite few the...

"the unique privilege of incorporating the Timbers brand into their club name and wear a special adidas Timbers Alliance badge as part of the uniform. On the field, each alliance club will wear the same color jerseys – red and white – in recognition of the partnership with the Timbers."

I don't understand why the Portland Timbers (a private business) would align themselves with a few clubs and alienate themselves to the other 2/3 of the soccer community.  My kids won't want to purchase or wear Portland Timber's jerseys when they are the club colors of their weekly competition.   Also, other local clubs may be hurt by this news.  Is it the Portland Timber's place to pick and choose clubs to give preference to?   If the clubs were all aligned, I may feel differently, but they aren't currently.
