GU13 Silver Finals - Infinity v SCS Joffs 4-0. They have a player, #4, who is fabulous - speed, strength, and smarts. We had two games to beat them, pool and finals, and they bested us both times. I will say that 6 matches in 3 days was a bit much. A little tough on the body. We'll just say that we are the walking wounded, but proud to be finalists. New year, new attitude, and new results.

WELCOME to WPS djoffs!  :drinks:
LOVE the attitude ;D

You hit the nail on the head On Frame...exactly what I was thinking. Mt. Hood is starting to look better and better...Mike Morris definitely knows how to put on a tournament.

Mike is the DOC for Oregon isn't he? He sure did some advertising this year that is for sure. Put in a lot of hard work to get that tourney up and running. I'm seriously thinking about taking my kids down to one or the other next summer. I'll have to keep watching the reviews and you all can help me make my mind up ;D

Mike Morris throws a  good party no doubt. Organization, Website, cell phone updates and schedule posting are nice. He's been at it awhile and learned a few things!
Personally I think his scheduling scheme is a bit strange and better suited for the younger ages.
The play a couple games and then get re-seeded into a championship braket is kind of juvinile. The "everyone gets to compete for a medal" thing is fantastice for the young'ins but kind of silly for the older teams.
Depending on how you look at it the consolation rounds can be nice ... generally my kid is pooped and ready to go home!
First, I agree with the consensus sentiment that the bracketing for Chinook was ...um well...interesting.  That said, Mike's brackets and playoff system for Mt. Hood also proved to be ...ah...different.  6 teams in GU13 gold divided into 2 brackets with two preliminary games played cross brackets.  All six preliminary games were won by teams in the same bracket (A).  With the top two tied on points and goal differential so they toss a coin to determine 1st place and a spot in the semis.  Loser of the toss plays in a quarterfinal game against the undefeated 3rd place team to try an make the semis.  Loser goes to consolation game.  Meanwhile bracket B has 3 teams without a win with the "winner" of the automatic advance to the semi's "earned" by scoring 1 goal while the 2nd and 3rd place teams had none.  2nd and 3rd place teams in bracket B play to see who will win their first game and reach the semis.  Do you think the 2nd and 3rd place team in bracket A like Mike's brackets?

I'm not casting dispersions at Mike and his tournament.  The girls had a great time and in the end, the right team won ;D.  Just suggesting that the bracket "grass" wasn't greener in this case.  While we're on the subject of grass, the field dimensions for the Mt. Hood were small for this age group with one field having a penalty box that was only 12 yds. deep - more like a modified U-11 field.

The point of the system isn't only that everybody gets to compete for a medal, it's that everyone gets more games and the games are close. That's better than the non-winner's experience at most tournaments - you lose a couple, at least one blowout, then go home because you didn't make it out of pool. It's a lot of travel and expense for 1-2 meaningful games.

Of course, having Chinook and Mt. Hood at the same weekend does nothing to enhance the quality of the experience for the participants. Two poorer tournaments instead of one better one. Should remind everybody of Washington's insane league "system".
