October Fundraiser
« on: August 27, 2009, 06:17:34 PM »

Washington Premier, as part of our year long initiative to support women's cancers, is doing a fund raiser coinciding with Octobers Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

We will be selling Athena Chocolate Truffles, 72 in a jar, $25.00  The truffle is made by Seattle Chocolate maker Dillitante Chocolates.  Real Yummy.  100% of the profits generated by Athena are donated directly back into our regions cancer research facilities.  The money stays home and that's important.  You can also go to www.athenapartners.org and see the candy.

If any teams/clubs are interested in selling these also it's a great way to support a worthy cause and make some money for your teams.  If your interested in the details PM me and I'll give you the specifics.

As I'm not a computer geek I've asked Brat to post the picture of the candy for me.  Our goal is to sell 4000-5000 of these to support this great cause.  If any of you are business owners that would like to support this I'd love to speak to you too.

Thanks!
HD

ummmm SO?
This IS a FUNDRAISER for Breast Cancer Awareness.
I think most on this website ( dedicated to youth soccer ) would love to give there $$ for a good cause for/from a team or Club than they would for Dilettante/ CostCo/ out of area business

OMG.  This is a fundraiser for Athena/Fred Hutch, the club's Athena scholarship fund, and an incentive for these young players to get active in the cause.  Should they just stick to selling coffee, plants, and Texas Hold 'Em tournaments like everyone else?  It takes an elephant to stomp on a great thing for so many well meaning individuals.  WPFC has already raised $21,000 for Fred Hutch, and should be beyond reproach.  What have you done lately?

I just read a short story on someone that had cancer. She was PISSED because everyone wanted to sell ANYTHING with a pink ribbon on it and say its for Breast Cancer.

She said, "Why can't I buy cream cheese without being reminded of it? Do we really need breast cancer breath mints? And why in the name of Susan G Komen do we need a pink stand mixer?" I know damn ribbons help rasie money for research, but it infuriates me that corporate America is exploiting my disease to seel Chicken Soup, vacuum cleaners mascara, T-Shirts, chocolate beach towels --- even wine. Breast cancer wine!
Don't they know alcohol raises breast cancer risk? Whats next, pink ribbon cigarettes?"
excerpt from Alice Kellys story in Good Housekeeping

If any of you have been bothered by the WPFC October fundraiser, you must not have read Trish Mays story.
She is a survivor herself and started Athena because of it. ALL of her profits go back into research at Fred Hutch.
A local lady doing great things for our local sisters, mothers, aunts and cousins and yes, even dads and brothers.

Can you tell me where most of the profits from the above mentioned items are going? I can tell you... right back into the company coffers with a SMALL PERCENTAGE of sales going to research!

Keep it up WPFC! Your efforts in helping this cause is commendable.

Our team approached other opponents w/ this fundraiser and the ENTIRE amount is going toward Athena and NOT in our pockets.  As info -   people have the flexibility to make money on this as a fundraiser, even drop price so they make less, but ALL of our profits are going right to Athena.   ;D

i think you would be paying tax and shipping on the diletente website too.  i can sell these for whatever i want.  i am not really selling them, i am asking friends and businesses to make a donation and they get chocolate truffles in return.  also, when they give these away to their clients and customers, they are making a statement that their company supports breast cancer research.  My little sister was given two months to live last october because her breast cancer that did not show up on any of her yearly mammograms, had spread throughout her body.  Her cancer doctor started her on a new drug that came about because of scientists relentless search for better drugs to combat cancer.  She is still alive today. she loves to wear pink

The elephant is selling the chocolates for WPFC dorks! But at a lesser cost...so NO KICKBACK for us.  Wanted to know how others felt about the cost/kickback but instead got attacked. What person would stomp on cancer? Do any of you actually think before you type?

That's what I was thinking when I read the post - you didn't say you were selling them too - just "hmmm"ing the $10 profit.
You were saying $10 profit for cancer GOOD then, right?  Right on!   :drinks:
Good job selling!!!!  Good luck to you TOO!

You sure had me fooled.
Why didn't you just ask straight out instead of beating around the bush?

In all this discussion, there has been no mention of the truffles themselves... are they good?  So $10 out of $25?  That is a 40% profit, plus $3 shipping.  Pretty average return on a fundraiser, plus its better than frozen cookie dough because you don't have to worry about it melting in your freezer!   There are ways to raise mone + Awarness...try an email fundraising campaign.
