Good luck to your crew tomorrow.   I doubt that I'll be able to attend but I will certainly be rooting for your boys to win.   It will NOT be easy, but I think y'all have a real shot!!!

My prediction;  FC United 3  EFC 0.

My son's prediction;  FC United 3  EFC 1.

Keys to the game;

FC United;

Must score first and fairly early otherwise EFC will have "hope" must dash all hope early for them.   As always FC United must control the midfield and play "their" style of play.   Must not get duped into the EFC forte of long ball, over the top game.  Defense must play strong and keep the ball down at the feet rather than up in the air, especially in front the United goal. United defense must win most balls in the air cause EFC loves to play that way.   Don't give EFC too many corners or directs,  EFC very dangerous then.  Bottom line FC United skill and versatile game too much for EFC.  Should be 1 or 2 nil at halftime for FC United, BUT the longer the game remains scoreless, the gauntlet then swings to the EFC.

EFC;

Must play strong defense and keep the game close as long as possible, overtime and therefore shootout must be considered, then it's anyones game.  EFC must try to play their game and hope FC United falls prey to that style,  EFC can't match the skill and passing game of FC United yet they know it, knowing your limitations is key.....  Long ball and over the top must be implemented and utilized too their advantage,  you go with what "brung ya" to this point, keep the ball in the air is a necessity for EFC.  Must play physically too, to have any chance. If it goes to shootout,  EFC definite favorite,  goalie may win the game for them,  comes up big a lot.  Should be 0 -0 at halftime for EFC to have any chance....if they get ahead,  pack it in, pack it in, and pack it in..........

By the way,  good luck to both teams, and may the best team win...

Thanks Rama. United vs. EFC...should be a good one with plenty of   fireworks I am sure. Zamira vs. Lee has its own subplot.

My  wish is for a fair,clean and injury-free game. I think both teams will represent WA well in Boise!!

EFC has only alowed 1 goal in the tournament thus far so I dont see them conceeding three in one game.
There will not be many goals in this game.

Agree. United had a hard time with snoho, putting up one on a free kick that caromed off upper cross bar for a blast in. Otherwise, they could not move against them. I say 2-1 either way.

The key for Efc to win is to keep the big #7 from taking freekicks in the area. He is easily the best kid at this age for scoring off of free kicks. Most of the goal's FCU have been scoring have been off of the freekicks and if eastside doesnt give up any silly fouls in and around the area they will be fine. Efc always creates many quality chances and with their forwards in good form lately they will score goals. The Efc defense have also been playing well and always make playing difficult for FCU. Should be a great game and i hope everyone comes out to watch.

EFC's key is to stretch the field through the air and win most balls, IF they do that they have a great opportunity to win, that's a big if....
EFC must put pressure on the United defense and keep them on their heels and a huge plus to EFC IF they can make the United mids play defense too, keep them out of position, and take them out of their comfort zone if you will,  don't think EFC has enough offense to do that however.

FC United loves to work the ball down one side and find the far post with either big forward, both extremely dangerous especially one on one.  Then you have the United inside mid's; one is tenacious, tough and the other is sneaky smooth, hardly ever makes a mistake and complement each other very well. Finally the FC United defense and as I understand FC United dominated Snoho in semi's, Snoho had one maybe two viable offensive threats the whole game, that won't win many championships at Snoho,  but it may get a team  to a PK scenario and if that happens EFC wins.....

VMS...I was there. I thought the 1s tgoal was weird. I didn't have a good angle, but saw it hit the upper inside corner of th crossbar and then go all the way across the goal and out. The AR called it a goal I think...was weird really. My angle was bad though.

I actually had in my notes...game over with like 5 mins left when FC United had the ball in the corner and ate like 3 mins off the clock sitting on it...great tactic. Pisses parents off, but that's just good coaching 8)

Then in stoppage time Eastside wins a corner and then scores after a long scramble.

Hmmmm stoppage time win at LPT's and stoppage time tieing goal in the State Cup final...interesting. Both games looked like losses.   :shock:

VMS,  as I advised EFC, go with what "brung ya",  you honestly didn't want me to change and pick EFC now did you?    I would have jinxed you guys.  From reading the reviews of the game I was right on,  the only way EFC could win was to keep close and tied and win in a shoot out,  a win's a win especially for all the marbles.
I heard/watched your coach get EFC ready at our QF game,  he really knows how to prepare them mentally so it seems....great job there.

Squash, as a non-biased observer (and I will read your upcoming article on the game) did EFC get FC United to play long ball with them,  I suspect they must have with all the comments about it being an "ugly" or not a very "pretty" game?  How did you see it?

I thought FC United played a bit long at times, but overall was the better passing of the 2 teams. FC United had the game won in regulation, and definitely the better of the chances to score all game.

I thought the game was only ugly during the second half near the end with some pretty hard tackles, almost all carded too.

Of the 2 teams, I'd imagine FC United would win 7 out of 10 times.

That's not taking anything away from Eastside, they played solid at the back, and are very dangerous if they connect with 14..Race I never saw this boy earlier in the year, but comments from other teams coaches are. He's come a long way and has really improved...I'd agree from what I saw.

I liked what I saw on FC Uniteds team, and expect both to advance out of the same bracket at regionals. :mrgreen:

Thanks,  even though I picked FC United to win,  I did think EFC had a chance only if they could keep it close,  play a physical game and get FC United to play the long ball game,  rather than let FC United concentrate on the better parts of their game which was United's true superiority,  and I knew if it came to ot and pk's,   I pick EFC.  Read my post's,  I called this game perfectly.

Funny you brought up the holding the ball in the corner to waste time, Dynamo have done that in the past and it angers some of our own parents,  but the other night I watched Arsenal do the very same thing against Real Madrid to salvage a tie and advance, great strategy.  It's all about surviving to play another day or period as it worked for Arsenal although it seems to have backfired on FC United,  do you think it was the wrong call there?  I know second guessing is easy, but would you have done it if you were the coach?

Actually I though FC United was coached really well today. They did the into the flag drill to perfection. They killed at least 3 minutes in one single span of into the flag..win a corner. Get ten yards..play it short ..into the flag, win a corner...Rinse and repeat.

The fact they gave up a goal had nothing to do with stalling. It was the right time to do it..like 5-7 mins left on the clock. It was working too. Many of the fouls were frustration fouls.

They just got unlucky today, and Eastside never gave up..simple as that.

FC United coaches did a great job today. Eastside never played like it was over. The result was what we call SOCCER

Thanks,  looking forward to your article.  Great game, this "soccer"
and oh to be on the winning side and woe to be on the losing side in a game such as this.....two teams that deserved to be there at the end,  think of it,  EFC down a goal to both Crossfire and FC United yet come back and pull it out......two times,  they deserve it.

EFC read the script of Cinderella Man and certainly channeled James Braddock for their run to the Championship. They were the cardiac kids all year overcoming a rough start 3-4-1 at one point to finish out the year at 13-5-2. Against United their last two games they tied 1-1 and won 2-1. Their defense was the key to their success this year no doubt as they gave up just 2 goals in 6 games in Cup Play with 1 to Xfire and 1 to United. If this team picks up a few more offensive pieces there is NO reason they can't be there again next year!!
