The initial letter posted above came to me by email. A rather long thread has ensued from a list that includes respectable business leaders, parents, and both politically active and inactive people, including leaders in local and state politics. This just arrived:
After reading Jerry's e-mail below, I like you, pray that war-like violence within our country will never happen, but when I went to the gun show this past weekend and saw the tons of people buying guns and ammunition, I was shocked. Not only was the convention center building at the fairgrounds filled with wall to wall people, there was a huge line of people along the building waiting to get in.
I talked to several of these individuals as they bought my books and they weren't what you would call "red necks." They appeared for the most part, to be blue collar common citizens, preparing for an anticipated internal war. It was really scary. There were all kinds of weapons including surplus military vehicles for sale. The people weren't merely window shopping, they were purchasing and loading their purchases in pick-up trucks and in the trunks of cars.
I don't think the leaders of the Republican Party or the Democratic Party are cognizant of what is happening. I would recommend that they attend these gun shows and see the actual mood of the country. (I'm sure the FBI, Secret Service and the CIA are watching). Our political leaders are so busy with politics as usual and elections, that they are completely oblivious to the fact that many Americans are arming themselves for a potential war. God help us all. You had to be there to see it. I know earlier this year there was a run on gun shops and they sold out of their supply of ammunition. To supplement their supply - citizens are going to gun shows.
Let me just add that many of these Americans are not arming themselves to take or steal from others, but to defend themselves from what many, myself included, believe is a Marxist regime acting against the people who've worked for what they have, and with a plan to take it and redistribute it to its supporters and allies. To most, if not all of these Americans, regardless of what you call it, this is robbery. And when robbed, people do have a right to defend themselves, and what belongs to them.
For many on the left, the real reason for the 2nd Amendment to our Constitution would have been a better lesson learned in the classroom, but if the left is determined to take what they won't earn, the genius of that amendment may, unfortunately, become very clear sooner or later.
