van rentals, new york
« on: January 21, 2010, 04:51:17 PM »

Our sports team is traveling to New York, arriving at Newark.  Does anybody know of a good company to rent 2, 15 passenger vans from?
Or any 12 passenger ones?

Thanks!

Il Bambino's  Hearses and Vans for all occassions.  It's in Queens.  Ask for Vito Colreone.

Ah, shucks, I was just trying to have some fun!

Good luck, 3Dog.   When I looked for the large vans in the past, they cost an arm and a leg.  And driving in NY (let alone parking!) is something I would not wish on my mother-in-law.

Seriously, if this is a real question - check with Enterprise.  You need to call an office directly back east.  You will get a break in cost if you rent off-site (non airport) because rental companies at airports have to pay an additional fee.  Enterprise will bring the van and pick you up at the airport.  Ask if you can return it to the airport directly when you leave, sometimes they let you do that.  If not,  you go to their place, and their driver delivers all of you to the airport after you checkout.

Newark to NY - remember to map your route and look at any bridges you cross - almost all of them charge a fee.  If you have a good road map for NY and NJ, look at the reference information usually printed on the side - it will actually show you what approx. the fees are.  Good luck!

Most any car rental places has vans. Be very careful with enterprise and the 15 passager vans. They have left me high and dry on two occassion with confirmed rentals, I no longer use them. I have found 12 passenger vans are easier to find. Budget or Dollor have worked well for me in the past.

We've been left high and dry on 3 separate occasions with little girls in the middle of the night by Dollar, but this was not in NY. So, I think it may just depend on the branch. We have not had issues with Budget or Enterprise ourselves.
Good luck to your group! I hope your trip is enjoyable.  :)

Be very careful if you book off-site from the airport in Newark. We did it last Summer -- not a van though. Every thing worked fine, but I would not want a bunch of kids in the neibhorhood we ended up in just to pick up our car. Driving is absolutely insane as well. You might find that the extra cost associated with getting the vans at the airport is worth it. If you don't have one yet, get a GPS. Invaluable on these kinds of trips.

I think we went through Enterprise and could designate an airport and were provided a list of Enterprise offices within X miles of the airport.

Good Luck!

+1 for you, Olddog. Yes, 3 times is too many.  ;D Those great rates were too hard to pass up at the time. Definitely won't be doing that again!  :-[  ;D

If you guys are traeling to a place surved by public transpertation I would go that rout.   A van in NY City is a pain in the rear,
