Mt. Rainier FC Fires Coach
« on: March 04, 2010, 01:43:39 PM »

The board at MRFC has decided to fire a coach because they don't like him.  He rocks the boat, trys to get his teams the best competition, does his job.  Two team, 36 families were not consulted or taken into account when the board made their decision.  What consideration was given to all the girl on these teams who travel from Kent, Federal Way, Puyallup, Tacoma, Sumner, BonneyLake, Enumclaw....NONE!
Just because our VP of Competition sits on the Board of PSPL and wants to take the whole club in that direction does not mean that coaches who want better competition for their teams should be fired!  Wake up Board, you have a real mess here!

What strikes me as odd is the fact that anyone would travel to MRFC, Puyallup maybe, but Tacoma and Kent to play at MRFC ?  :o I'm sure the board made a sound decision; if not then they are just hurting themselves.   :drinks: I'm sure your DK's will be just fine.

MRFC may not be WPFC or Eastside, but they do have kids from all over that play there.

I do believe that they did a dis-service to the team (s) that he had firing him just before state cups.
This action was NOT about the kids at all and sounds more and more like egos.  :(

What MRFC team?

One would have to assume Vance, but the two team thing is throwing me, cause he only has one team.  The only coach who has two teams is Steve, but then again he doesnt sit on the PSPL.    ???

There must be somthing the board is keeping hush hush  :-X to fire a coach right before the cup is a little strange.

I believe the original poster indicated that MRFC's VP of Competition sat on the PSPL board.

At a time when smaller clubs are just trying to survive being cut out of PDL, RDL, whatever comes next, MRFC is telling a good winning coach "We don't need you".  I know all clubs have their problems with egos and personalities, but when all is said and done...clubs should do what is best for the kids and families in their organizations.  The board has no idea of the @#%& storm coming their way!

I heard the coach was not fired, but was told he wouldn't be offered a coaching position with
MRFC for the 2010/2011 season.  And that he was asked to finish out this season by coaching
both teams thru state cup.

If it is Steve, I think they are losing a fine coach and a great mentor to the girls. He'd be a good hire at any club.

This club has plenty of issues and no real group to run it correctly. At the beginning of this season they lost several full teams to Maple Valley and Synergy with that great tryout program they put on. Also played games with another team who was looking for a home after tryouts and went PSPL because of having no place to go. Now they are forcing teams from there feeder clubs who have select team to be part of a new MRFC Select division………………someone might want to tell them the state has made it clear if you are not in the PDL/RCL you are just a select club. The problem is that for some reason being a select club just does not sound good so as in true ego form they want to keep the premier word in there logo. I used to be proud of the MRSA association and now it just is embarrassing when the majority of the board members are MRFC people.

Maybe they should be called Mount Rainier Farmers Club they are from Enumclaw you know.

It needs to be about the kids and not about the adults that get in the kids way of having fun. Let all the kids play and have a place to play for which they fit in and watch the kids faces light up. Let the kids build friendships and memories instead of moving teams every year and just another number.

I must be crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hmmm sounds like some sour grapes to me.
I saw nothing wrong with the way tryouts were handled. Quite a few Clubs do a combined tryout. Nothing new here.
If you don't like the way the board is, run against 'em.

Call it what you want and if you feel sour grapes best fit then so be it. If you are involved then you know the problems with the tryouts and why they are being revamped. It is just amazing that everyone in the group say they want all the kids to have a place except they are getting rid of them with poor decision making all they have to do is look at the flood of local talent leaving. This tells the story and is what they should be looking into instead of turning a def ear to the coaches and parents in there association. Just like our currant government who is not listening to the people………….see a trend.

MRSA is who ran tryouts, not MRFC.  MRSA (which has members of all 4 clubs sitting on their board) made the decision to run the select programs thru MRFC.
I agree with Brat Jr, if you are not happy with how things are run then step up and help out.

YESH!  What kind of statement is that?

Why would anyone travel to ANY club...  Sorry, that comment just hit me the wrong way >:(

I think what they are trying to say is MRFC took over errrrr, I mean were voted into the board positions of MRSA and now MRFC is calling all the shots. Take a hard look at the track records of some of the folks that make up the leadership of MRSA and MRFC. Are they in for the kids of their egos?  :-\

This story is very puzzling. ???  I have heard talking about it and it seems as though the board really blew it.  From what I hear, this coach is a very good coach and has 2 teams that are both ranked high in the club.  According to the "stories", the board does not like him because he speaks his mind and the direction the club is going in is a dead end and will not benefit the players.  Also, the "talkers" say they are a laughable club who is run by a bunch of cow tippers and a DOC who does not have a valid liscense.  Not sure if it's true, but from all I hear he is a good coach and is being subjected to this because it goes against the board's agenda.  Very puzzling and sad.... hopefully is fellow coaches will stand up and back the coach.........

I assumed that MRFC was one of the stable Clubs in the southend after hearing MRFC brought in a new DOC and some great new coaches this past year.  Can anyone else confirm what soccerboot and OMG7 said is true?
