Youth PDL - Next year's season
« on: April 01, 2010, 10:38:11 AM »

Does anyone have any information as to next seasons PDL schedule? It is not good to have a fall season and than month long break, and then spring season. Why not start the season in Aug. or Sept. and finish by early Dec. and have a 18-20 game season straight thru. The teams & divisions could be recalibrated after the first 10 games (either moving up or down depending on play)The State could still have Cup play in March.

How will the RCL work and the geography of team/division play?

Still some question as to whether or not the new structure will come together in time for league play in the fall of this year.

Personally I liked taking a break for the holidays. Ask my DS and he would of rather kept on playing. I guess it wouldnt be too bad starting earlier but then we would have the loooong break before state cup.

Don't worry. The state appointed cartel will tell you when you can play when they are good and ready. For marketing purposes, it has to look like things are being hashed out between the state and the PDL under the guise of "seamless soccer" rather than the the state just doing what the cartel wants in exchange for the $s.

But hey, I'm a cynic.

Is that the official SU position EWSoccer64? Are you making an announcement? If not, why hasn't SU taken advantage of that news to rally the club?

I do not and never have spoken for SU or the SYSA, no matter how much Todd Lincoln got his panties in a bunch.   The leadership of the PDL clubs voted overwhelming to accept the RCL.     I believe that only ECFC - which is no longer part of the PDL or RCL, as of this summer or perhaps even now - voted against it.

Yes, Gibson should hit 87, think Keirrison is set to stay

Gibson should keep on rising, and is a future 92+, definatly THE one for the future out of the United team

Correction -

Th PDL voted to support the convening of the RCL COMMITTEE that is charged with developing and designing the RCL. It has not yet voted to join or merge into the RCL because the RCL is not fully designed yet. The PDL still has some major concerns with the state's RCL proposal. Presumably, the RCL Committee is charged with ironing all that stuff out.

ECFC did not vote against it; it abstained.

The bottom line no matter what league or club is that the coaching needs to be more technical and repetitive for youth soccer in Washington State. Furthermore, practices should be conducted at least 3 times per week for U-12 and older and this will get soccer athletes more exposure. With regards to the PDL or RCL- perhaps having a playin tournament in the month of July or August for the current teams not in the PDL. The finalist of each age group bracket could receive an automatic bid to join the PDL or RCL. Perhaps they start at Division 2 or 3 for Fall and could move up or down 5 games into the season or thereafter depending on their play. This event would keep small clubs and or hypothetical top teams outside the PDL to competing at the highest level in WA.

Clarification, then:
The term "The PDL" is used interchangeably to obfuscate the discussion, and can refer to a group of clubs, a group of DoCs, the PDL "leadership committee", a league, and/or a set of rules and a structure for a league.

The 'correction' quoted above suggests that "The PDL", by whatever definition is either meant or implied, still has some sort of veto power. The latest word is that the decision as to whether the league will be structured next year according to the RCL plan, the current PDL rules, or presumably some amalgam of the two, has passed into the hands of the Regional Club Committee. The former PDL, by several of the above definitions, is no more and while still wielding great influence, its effective political power has been supplanted by the Regional Club Committee.

Ah, let me expound Mr. Governance Geek!

When the PDL votes, it is done via one vote per member club. And ultimately, I believe that each member club will make a determination based on its own assessment of what is best for its members, players, and coaches as to what league(s) in which it will choose to play.

The PDL exists until its members choose that it not do so. To my knowledge, it has not yet chosen to disband. So, yes, the RCL Committee is working on designing the RCL, but that does not mean that the PDL is no more at this point in time.

Of course, you have been to all the PDL meetings, Mr. Wonk????
