Can't wait til my DD team goes head to head with WPFC.

This same thing happened last year with the same age group...except it was on the boy's side. And they only kept 3 players from the original team. I could go on and on about the situation last year, but it is pretty similar to what has already been said.

To sum it up, it sucks for some and not for others.

What club and age group? PDL? Did they retain their league position?

Victory - I think they improved. They still didn't make it out of bracket in state cup though. So, even with a whole new team, the results actually got worse over the previous year. 2 of them are now in the Sounders Academy.

This team will no doubt improve a lot.  They added some of the best players in the state, including some real standouts, big impact players.

That wasn't the point.   The point is that when it comes to the other roster spots (after the real stars) should a club respect the players already on the team or replace with players that are not an improvement.  That's where protecting friends and providing carpools trumped.  Ethical?  Fair?   There are those who claim religion but actions speak louder than words.

I agree. If you have 2 kids that are close in ability, the club/ coach should come down on the side of the kids that has been with the club previously. You would think that if you put in a number of years with one club, you would get the benefit of the doubt over a kid from outside the club.

I am not suggesting this for all scenarios - just the one where you have 2 kids that are close in ability.

Just confirms what I have been trying to tell some of our parents who are getting recruited to play over there at WPFC this year. Know all the facts before you decide. Because they are a business like it or not. And the BS that they(WPFC) sell you that they will get your child a college scholarship when your child is young at U8 to U15 is BS. While it is true their U18 teams both boys and girls get college scholarships, the real truth is, most if not all those players developed somewhere else and WPFC recruited them at U17 and 18 to play for them. Please left foot or someone tell me how this is development of players? I call it great recruitment!!!

Not with the influence that their DoC weilds.   Remember, that we are discussing the PDL, where all rules are meant to be retroactively modified and any rule can be discarded at the whim of the "Power Elite".  And with the state bowing to these guys, they figure that their sway will encompass the state leagues as well.

I have seen P-1 teams with parent/coaches win the Championship Cup and be first in P-1.   
On the other hand, 3Rivers just fired their 9to be) BU-18 coach because he is a parent coach.  His kid is the only 3Rivers boy to be on the full state ODP team, the team has gone from P-3 to P-1 in the course of three years.  He was replaced with a coach who has an English accent........

A bad coach is a bad coach.  A good coach is a good coach.  Notice that you do not see the word "parent" in either sentence.

Joey gave Neil Megson four teams.  No dad in his right mind would send a Gu13 or Gu14 player to Harbor.  The best that could happen is to see their coach every other game or so.
Neil has a history.
Four teams for a coach has time constraints.

I don't totally disagree with this, but on the other side, my DD started with the Royals at u-11, played every year there and went on to play college. Every girl on her team had a collge offer to play soccer (not all with sports scholarhship--some went D3); two decided not to play collegiate soccer. I never heard the club guarantee a scholarship, but they did say it was their goal to get every girl a chance to play soccer in college.

But many players were replaced over the years. Not all of that was recruiting. We had girls who chose track and fast pitch. One girl stopped her U17 year because she had decided to go to Bible college. I think that to imply that if a team does not carry all the players from u11 to U18 it must mean they recruit and don't develop is not reality. My DD developed and she worked darn hard to do it. Every year the competition got harder and she had to step it up. Not every girl felt that committed. But yes, it is true that girls got cut and picked up stronger players from other teams.

What does it mean when we say girls were 'developled' elsewhere? I looked over one of the WPFC rosters and for their this year U17 team, there are 8 that have been there since U13. I think my DDs situation of staying all her years is unusual. It seems like most girls move a couple times--and the most competitive players tend to flow to the top teams--I have seen this since we started in select soccer nearly 20 years ago. Who do we say "developed" a player? The mod coach? The U-11 coach? The place they stayed 2 years? 3 years?

I am sooooooo happy to hear that WPFC retained 8 players!  (Still bummed my DD wasn't one of them, but them's the breaks.)  

With players they've added, this is going to be one incredible team!  The fact that it was accomplished within the rules will squelch anyone's ability to say they cheated their way to the top when they experience the success I sense coming their way.  

I wish you nothing but the best... ok, a small piece of me would get some degree of sick satisfaction of seeing you crash and burn  ... but I'm try to keep that piece under lock and key  .

One of the 8 from last year is not actually rostered with this team.  She is rostered with a differernt team at a different age.  The coaches, player and parents are all in agreement to fraudulently keep her on the roster even though she is not playing with, practicing with or in any way connected to the team or even the same age group.  For those of you who teaching sportmanship is one of the reasons you like youth soccer and have kids in this club need to take a hard look at this situation.

I agree.  Coaching your kid is fine for rec soccer, but beyond that, I think it's a bad idea, no matter what the coaches qualifications.  There's always going to be a question about their objectivity vis their own kid.  If you want your kid to play, find a team and a coach you like. If you want to coach, then find another team and coach them.

I agree.  Coaching your kid is fine for rec soccer, but beyond that, I think it's a bad idea, no matter what the coaches qualifications.  There's always going to be a question about their objectivity vis their own kid.  If you want your kid to play, find a team and a coach you like. If you want to coach, then find another team and coach them.

I've lost track of where many of them are now coaching, but I know where and why they started.

Come on... send in the names.  I admit... I'm one, for 22 years now.   Most parents will be surprised to find out that so many are coaching now because of their kid.  Cut them out and ... well, they're parents, they find a way.  PSPL?

Its always been a major factor of many successful teams. You'd be misled by the line " no dad coaches," that could be just the train you want your kid to ride.  Dad's only want the best for their kid, if you qualify they'll do their best to make you the best... because that's what's best for theirs.

BU18 state championship team was dad-coached. The kid involved was last year's Gatorade Player of the Year, regional ODP player, bound for the UW next season.

If it is WPFC we are talking about, the DoC has the pull to have any team placed wherever he wants it.  8 player rule is meaningless in that situation.

They kept 9 from last year.  Moot point

A 50% turnover would be considered "high" on most teams.  But one of the top teams in the state, with a new coach, and other teams collapsing?  Perhaps not.  Hasn't some of the top Crossfire teams had similar turnover some years?

And a team where the club has been granted entry to play in the ECNL. One would expect some extra turnover. If they kept 9 it at least passes that test.

If thier PDL roster for this team has 9 from last years team this more than passes the test.  Good job WPFC  Good luck!

Go look at WPFCs own web page.  The picture from Lake Oswego shows 10 Former Reign players 1 NWN and only 7 WPFC players.

Dd's team played against this team.  Definitely has 8 returning players and 9 from Reign and 1 from NWN... who cares....  the girls get together and play.. Reign as a club did not do well by the Reign girls so they/their parents decided to take care of things for their girls..  I have no problem that they went there and the team is what it is... I do question who the real coach is of this team.  The coach listed is always there, but the Reign coach from last year is also ALWAYS there... is that how they skirt around the rules of changing clubs and not coaching at the same age.. List someone else and really let another person coach???  Just curious..

I also see 8 9 and 1  Old Reign Asst coach is also listed as Asst coach for WPFC.  I personaly have no issue with it if  the person is qualified (shoot the USNT has a parent coach) but do find it interesting to see a parent coach.  Big clubs usally take a strong stand against this.

Victory, I don't think the issue is a parent coach. A coach is not supposed to coach at the same age when jumping clubs (especially when they have brought a team with them  .....so......looks like a work around -- we'll just make him assistant coach.

Seems to happen here a lot. The current u-19 team did the same thing some time back when the MRFC dad brought his kids to WPFC.

no the reign coach is not the coach for wpfc ecnl 94.  he was up until about 2 weeks ago, training the reign 94 girls in preparation for regionals. and he may have been watching them play in games to access his plan for regionals.  many of the wpfc coaches go to other teams games and practices.  we sometimes have someone other than our coach, coaching at games. that is wpfc style.  coaches help out other coaches but bryan is not their coach and peter is their coach and i almost always see peter training his team.
