Let's weigh in with comments as well.

Would this behavior be appropriate with teams at other levels?   What about a HS team doing this?  Or a college team?   Or a Sounders team that did it because Ljungberg was made team captain?   Or a team that refused to play because they did not like the coach?
Should a line be drawn, adn if so, where?

Once again easy call, the french national team still gets to play wherever, not just with those players. Regardless of coach, who can be replaced also if the people in charge believe it is necessary, the players have to go. You may lose a lot in the short run but in the long run you won't have it happen again which could be the case if you don't. EW the lower the level you go the easier it is to make that call. Could you ever see this happening at the high school level? As long as the coach did not violate any policies and procedures he or she would be let go at the end of the season not in the middle.

From what I've read over the years on other sites and this one as well.

This has happened from time to time even at the high school and youth level of play.

When a coached is dismissed, and none of us know why; but we spend time speculating......

Guess what?  There was a conspiracy behinds the scenes by either player, parents or club administrators.

When it doesn't happen, what is the alternative?  Player(s) move to a new team.........

Poop happens, so the French will be good enough to make it into major competitions for the time being.  Give them time, they may not be major factors in the near future.  However, going 0-3 in group play won't last long either.  There are too many teams around the world trying to grab up their young talent for Club Football.
