Good to see Pete back coaching college soccer again

When will Pete name his assistants, I hear a lot of names being batted around.

UDub coach Clark doesn't seem too happy about not making the tournament last year, and rightfully so if you ask me.  At least the team is looking forward to next year, which should be pretty successful if it's any indication of last years play.

Coach Clark excited for 2nd season with UW

When the combined record of the Div 1 teams that you beat is well under .500 you don"t belong in the tournament. The Huskies only wins versus teams with a .500 or better record were San Diego State twice and UAB.

I love that Clark is getting top talent from the state....something Dean thought he was doing but typical was not getting it or was getting 1 out of 4 or 5 a year if that.

It's nice to see transfers and kids coming in that had issues getting in to start coming from CC after a year.

To me things are looking up for Husky soccer  :drinks:

That is a HUGE head scratcher for me. I doub tRyan gets much playing time over the next two years as long as Spencer stays healthy.

Only reason I could think of for transferring at this point would be if you weren't getting much PT where you were or by transferring you might be able to join a team that would play in NCAA tournament if you haven't done so before. I really feel sorry for Ryan and wonder if only reason he was recruited was because of his size :(

The tall keeper, who was part of the Sounders Academy.   The Sounders pretty much cleared out all of the last two years worth of keepers for this year, who knows if the back ups will stick around.   Could be an opportunity?

Was discussing a couple of college programs last night with a friend...and these are smaller colleges....but three of the teams we discussed had major issues with guys smoking the funny cigarettes during the year.  First this is against team rules obviously, but is it a standard thread in todays college atmosphere?  Maybe I am just getting old, but during the season, we maybe had a beer or two, but pot was never a problem.  We had a coed that tore apart our best striker one year, but drugs during season was not the issue.  The suspensions for these teams just ruined the year and could cause long term issues with recruits and performance of these teams in the future.  Should the coach be held accountable?

This might not be in the right place but my question pertains to the subject area:  Do you folks think ID camps are a waste of time/money?  Clearly, it makes sense if you live in the area to attend WA and pay the 150 (plus incidentals) but another Pac 12 program will cost 1,000 after flight and the 3 day camp.  They do not offer the 2 day camp.  My phone calls there as well as my emails were never returned.

Assuming your kid plays with an academy/pre-academy/ODP/EDP/ABC (just kidding), don't coaches have less expensive ways to see your kid if they think there is a possibility/potential to play on their team. Or is this like dating?  You need to show some skin, unless your kid is on the National team.

ID camps are well worth the money to getting recruited. The players get high level training while being interduced to coaches and being able to see how the coaches interact with players. My DD had emailed her resume and cover letter to one of her top choice schools several times over the years with only one response. She became discouraged but after attending a camp a face was put to her name and she actively started being recruited by these coaches. She was a late bloomer and did not play  ODP, EDP or ENCL. Instead of getting discouraged she choose the best program with the best coaches for her development so she would be ready to compete at the level she wanted. She has proven that through hard work and dedication on the field as well as off the field by sending emails, resumes, cover letters and lots of research about schools and the teams you can get noticed. She will play for a Div 1 program in the fall and was able to make an informed choice due to visiting schools and attending ID camps.

For a guy who hasn't played a competitive game since last season in the DA I don't think the Sounders had anything to do with his transfer. I think perhaps Santa Clara was no longer seriously interested in him for whatever reason. I know they recruited a talent keeper for the fall in addition to whatever keepers they already had on their roster. Perhaps he simply wanted to be closer to home.

Simon Fraser has done very well over the past 2 seasons as a provisional member of the GNAC. Even though they are a Div 2 program they arguably might be much better than it would appear.

And maybe we know why they did not make the playoffs last year now.

I am also asking why a school the size of SF is playing Div 2 anyway

The divisional rankings depend on the number of sports offered, not the size of the student body. I think DI requires 14 sports (two must be teams sports) divided equally between men's and women's or 8-6 in favor of womens. There are some scheduling rules and special attendance rules for football. DII is at least 8 sports (two teams sports for each gender) divided equally. SF has been a solid soccer school for as long as I can remember (late 70s early 80s).
