I just received an email form US Youth Soccer which says that Phoenix AZ is hosting the US Youth National Championships for 2011.

YIKES - It runs from July 27th-July 31st (July 26th is the Player Luncheon)

Think it will be a little toasty that time of year in Phoenix?

Do organizers really think about things like that when deciding where to host or is it just political decisions?

The problem is that, outside of San Fran and Seattle, it is really hot in July no matter where you go. Having said that, I heard that Phoenix just barely beat out Death Valley. You would think that the organizers would stay away from environments which posed a real health risk to the kids. I guess dollars and politics win out again...

Hmmmm,   a couple years ago  DD's team played at FW Regionals in Hawaii   . . . the  weather there was pretty nice!

This is not very intelligent.  A historical average of 105F, and every time I have been there it has been 107 - 112F.  I guess they left their noodles at home.  With global warming it will be more like 115 - 120F by next summer.

I stand corrected. I think my point holds, however. There are many more hot places in the summer. Phoenix would seem to be beyond the pale though.
