Ewww - ouch - none of the Crossfire teams managed to get out of their brackets ?(Boys) and the Sounders Academy doesn't look like it did too well - their first time in CA as a team maybe?

Actually, the 98' boys did make it out of bracket losing 1 - 0 in the quarters to eventual champions San Diego Surf.

As noted elsewhere, Xfire BU12 made the quarters and was in fact only one of two WA teams to win two games in Surf's highest division, the other being Sounders Academy.

Interestingly if you look at the results by club in Surf's highest division, you have
Crossfire 11 teams, 6 wins, -16
EFC 5 teams, 5 wins, -5
NWN 1 team, 0 wins, -2 (a shocker IMO, since NWNG97 was dominant in WA)
WPFC 1 team, 0 wins, -1
Sounders 1 team, 2 wins, +1

I think that demonstrates that even though Surf in theory aspires to pick the best teams, there is still a political element and Crossfire's pull is getting some teams in that wouldn't on merit alone. That's another reason to like the Northwest Champions League - it ties the Surf Cup berth to on-field performance.

I'm confused
Does WPFC have a 92 black team and a 92 ECNL team? on their club site it only shows 1 U18 team and it is a ECNL team. Then my next question is if the ECNL is all that then why are they competing in the gold and not the Super division ??

Winning Surf at any level is a special thing. Heck I have watch my kids play there many times and have yet to see them even get out of group

Err, 3Play, you were a PDL advocate.  When did you change your mind and join those of us who bask in the light of "on-field performance".???

I like free clubs and leagues run by the teams that play in them - like CSL, NWCL etc. (The PDL had a dash of self-governance that I liked). You want politicians elected by rec politicians to define everything and place an upper limit on how good teams can get to give everybody a chance.

The significance of "on-field performance" is not an area of conflict. To Crossfire's credit, they've supported the NWCL even though it might end up costing some of its teams Surf Cup bids. I doubt I'll live long enough to see District 6 pols behave in a similarly principled way.

LOL - you want an upper gpvernor on how good teams can get?   Then you are arguing against amauer athletics.  And against the US Code.  Get a grip before posting your nanities, 3-ply!

And since you were have always been a stalwart against LPTs, you are against letting results on the field determine placement.

Do you also favor a return to the pony express? It seems only OR has stuck with LPTs, and that choice was key in driving the good OR teams to US Club! Paying attention to on-field results is not synonymous with giving soccer politicians a chance to line their pockets by mandating tournament attendance.

You have always been in favor of restricting player choice. Your position is that if you can't beat Crossfire on the field, then use politics instead. You are nothing if not consistent in throwing away every principle of fair competition and good sportsmanship in order to  achieve a narrow regional advantage. The sad thing is that you don't realize that the corruption you defend is the very thing that erodes the sport's popularity in your area.

On the issue of playing in the Gold division, yes, that is where WPFC '92 played.  You apply to Surf, and if you are accepted, you are lucky.  They place you.  Emerald City '92 Green, many time state champs were placed in the gold division last year and came back runners up.  Winning at Surf is a big deal.  Great Job girls!    We should celebrate success at Surf...it doesn't come often!

EW,

Actually, Tripleplay was saying that it is you that wants to limit the upper end of performance for teams.  Was this your way of saying "I know you are but what am I"?
