GU14 Rainier Challenge
« on: August 06, 2010, 09:21:53 PM »

SAMBA
Cascade FC 96 Green  0-2  Crossfire - Brazil
Eastside FC 96 Red  3-0  FC Crush 96
Harbor FC G96 Premier  0-4  Crossfire G96 A Baumgardt
WPFC '96 Black  4-0  Spokane Shadow 96 Navy, Heard wpfc may have ended their search for additional players?

Is it safe to assume the teams that won today will be the same ones in the semi's?  I think so.

COPA
FPSC Fury '96 Red  1-0  Eastside FC 96 Blue
Crossfire Premier 96 C - Reece  0-1  SHSC '96 Black
WPFC G96 White  1-0  SHSC '96 Black
Eastside FC 96 Blue  0-4  Crossfire Premier 96 C

Heard in the Copa division Wpfc white defeated S. HIll Black 1-0 even though 3 A team Synergy starters were playing, possible age bonding with S. Hill perhaps   ;D

I also heard that EFC Blue had 3 guest players from the White team, and yet they still got beat down by XFire C. Hmmm... ;D

not saying that Crossfire C didn't play well, they absolutely were the better team out there yesterday, coach brooke has assembled a solid team with the addition of some of the former crossfire b team players and a few of the top notch white team players. additionally their keeper has grown tremendously in the last few months, she's gained a lot of confidence, is using her voice more and can clear the ball to the midfield consistently. another nice thing  is that at least 2 of their goals came from a couple of the players that were guesting "up" from the white team (lisa and alexis).

it should be noted that efc blue is missing 6 players and planned on withdrawing from the tournament (they tried 2x). they were asked to reconsider (as nwn blue and crossfire white had already withdrawn and at the time the wpfc had not yet secured shsc nor bumped the wpfc white squad to the copa bracket). the efc white squad players (4) that were able to make themselves available for the tournament are strong collectively but if you look at the playing time they all received it was equitable or less than the actual remaining blue players.

ironically-now it's up to efc blue to determine whether or not Crossfire C advances-efc blue must tie or win in order for Crossfire C to match up against WPFC White in the finals.

btw: kudo's to the wpfc tournament directors, especially kelley-they were willing to let efc blue drop as late as last week as blue still didn't have any players lined up from in-house (they started by asking their little sister U13 blue squad) and had already turned down the gracious offer from another pdl/rcl team to offer up the players they had in town as options in order to try to stay in-house so to speak.

Gu14 Copa:  Two goals in regular time in the last five minutes of play with SH finishing the tieing goal seconds before the whistle sending the match into OT.   South Hill takes WP white to 9 kicks after overtime in an even match played mostly in the middle.  I'd call that a great finish for SH and a close call for WP:)

If it was only SH players, I'd agree. However, using 4 Synergy A team guest players, including their top scorers, changes the outcome from a great finish for SH to a straight up win against a combo SH/Synergy team for WP White.  WP keeper stopped a few Synergy KFTM and the keeper made the final KFTM to win the Championship.  Congrats to WP White and next time SH, bring just your team to show how well you can do on your own.

Samba Final -

WPFC 1
XFire Black 0

Games only goal came from a corner finding the tallest head on the field in the final minutes of the first half.  Xfire had several chances to equalize but couldn't get one past WP's keeper on frame.

Great effort by the ladies in red this weekend. You played hard to the end and showed a lot of heart and commitment to each other.

Congratulations to the champions.

Nice work and with that attitude your a real peach..........the team was invited to the tournament and with vacations only had 10 original player with 5 starters missing.......our friends from Synergy were gracious enough to lend a hand just like all teams due during the tournament season and yet you seem to have a problem with that............2 played very little after getting injured and the other two filled spots missing by the starting forwards. Until the games today we got two back from vacation did the team start scoring goals so having the all star forward sitting on the bench only works with there team. These girls were great help and having never played with this team so no team chemistry was hard to come. You should be saying that the parents got a great game to watch and both teams put on a show for everyone there. Congratulations to both teams for having a good tournament :drinks:

bulldog.  thank you to your team for coming to our tournament.  guests or no guests it sounds like a lot of teams scrambled to put together a fun weekend for the girls since the weather did not cooperate with our original schedule ( surprise surprise).  and to go to KFTM is a great accomplishment it sounds like since the team was not used to playing together.  we appreciate all the participation and hopefully all the participants had a great weekend with some fun competition.

You bring up a valid point, why would any coach want  his/her players to guest play for another team when they could get injured and sacrifice their own teams chemistry in the process?  Great for the team needing players but why guest and get hurt unless you're needing extra work.  I don't have players but if I did, I wouldn't want them playing in a division/tournament where they could ruin their chances of playing for their real team.

btw, does s. hill have a B team?  I love hearing about teams that actually bring up their B team players to play for the A squad.

Hoo boy. Let's see if your high horse can't bend down and let you step off now, eh? Take this at face value or not, I really don't care, but I take a few issues with this. And, for the record, I know Beryllium enough to know that he has no association with either team, and neither do I--not anymore, at least.

1. I would really like to think that you aren't just buying this straight up. A quartet of Synergy 'A' team players came down to "lend a hand" at a 'B' level and two of them ended up the leading scorers--fun for them, but not for everyone else who has to sit back and watch as they are beaten by kids who shouldn't even play at this level. There comes a point where one has to sit back and look: If this was a quartet of Eastside Red, of NWN Red, of WPFC Black players, would we still be smiling and saying, "Good job!!!"? I know I wouldn't, and Synergy claims to be at the same level. How does that figure, hmm? I'm left in the dark here.

2. You really shouldn't have to justify your choices if there wasn't anything that you felt could be wrong about them, right? So, when you get defensive, it really is just enough for me to sit back and laugh a little--what's the point? If you didn't do anything wrong, why do you have to respond and try to shame the poster, telling them what he "should" say? Just another little thought. I know etiquette is a difficult thing to come by sometimes, but let's try to keep it on the same level, eh?

3. On that point of etiquette, how about a little grammar help here, eh? We don't need all the excessive periods, misused "you're/your," or lack of capitalization. It is so much simpler to communicate if people can type enough that it doesn't muddle the communication, because if one were to read it like speech, they wouldn't have understood a single thing that you just said. I'd appreciate it if you had a definite care in how you typed, because it shows that you really care about what you are trying to say, rather than churning something out in self-righteous indignation.

Thank you and now you may return to your regularly scheduled programming, my piece has been said.

Not sure about 2 and 3, but your first statement is rock solid.  You toss 5 A starters from EFC on a team playing in the B division and parents would be in an uproar

I am not sure if 2-3 guest players ringers would make that big of a difference. Just ask  Eastside blue!  Eastside blue had 5 white guest players and they still took last in their bracket. This is a team sport and there is 11 players on the field, so give the players from South Hill a lot of the credit for their play.

*cough* "Their/There/They're" *cough*

But, honestly. Regardless of the overall amount of the team, it still took the Synergy gals to score the tying goals to bring the game to overtime, and to score the majority of the goals for the weekend. So, in this case, they hold the affecting vote (although I did hear that one or two of them were stuffed by WPFC White's keeper in the PK shootout, so kudos to her).

FYI it was a SH girl who scored the tying goal. Only one of the girls from synergy scored a goal and that was in the Eastside Blue game. The girls did have 2 in the kftm's. They also assisted in 1 game...the rest was all the REV

EXACTLY! It was a tough weekend (for EFC GU14 in general at this tournament  :P ) and when you have a mix of guest players in the mix it can be a hit or miss thing. The chemistry and team dynamics can change and for us it did a bit. Unfortunately, for Blue, the addition of guest players that have a better overall skillset it didn't necessarily "pull-up" the overall skill level of the remaining Blue players (except maybe 1 or 2), and in fact, it may have served to expose bigger gaps in skill between the two in-house teams  :-\ While there were a few shots on goal by Blue this parent has to admit it was tough to have to end the weekend with a big old goose egg in terms of gf for the team. And frankly, the SH team they played this morning was formidable with or without Synergy players and while Blue did a decent job of holding them to 1 goal (on a free kick within the first 5-minutes of the game) for the remaining 55-minutes-just couldn't hit the back of the net in order to tie and send Crossfire Red (Reece) to the finals.

We'll go with that. I heard straight from one of the WPFC parents otherwise. ;)

By the way, how is Rimland going to be with an injured keeper and now a pair hurt from this "guesting" at the Rainier Challenge? Could be interesting.

Great showing by X Fire teams this weekend, tough lost for the GU14 blacks!

Was at this game before the X Fire game and I also watched some of the other SH games, I would agree that the Synergy players were the dominant players in the games I watched. Though, I know that one of the guest Synergy lead scorer was in street clothing in all but one of the games I saw.  BigB was correct that 2 KFTM were made by 2 Synergy players and 1 missed.

Another reason why tournament season can't be judged as much as league or state cup. I think it is fine for teams to loan players to other teams so they can play. Or players can move up and down within clubs at same age levels to fill out rosters. It just means that if you don't know who is short players and is getting a lot of guest players and who isn't tournaments are for what they are, to get better and win some games.

Well said.  These girls played great and have improved tremendously in the last year and were thrilled to win.  Henry has done a great job developing this team!

DD had a lot of fun playing against her friends on SHFC; friends included both SH and Synergy players.

The goalie wining the game with a KFTM in the ninth rounds truly made it a storybook ending.
