The beginning of the End for Crossfire?

LOL Kind of a dramatic headline don't you think?  At least we got you to look ;)

Just thought it would be nice to point out there is a "new club in town" in the Ol' LWYSA:

I heard they are a new select/premier club and they are only charging 550/year to play; 50% of Crossfire Select and 20% of Crossfire Premier

Good Luck to the New Club! ;D   Below is their link:

STRAIGHT FROM THE WHISTLES MOUTH!

Contact Above the Shoulder

The besides keeping an accurate record of the information concerning a game; the next thing in line is making sure the game is safe for all of the players.  This is where the Directive of Contact Above the Shoulder comes into play.  In Washington there is the Concussion Law, thus we are aware of.  In the last decade headgear has also come into play.  There has been a debate as to the cause of all head injuries.  Is it due to the heading of the ball?  Is it heads hitting the ground after a fall?  Is it the contact that is made between players challenging for the ball?  Heading the ball and one’s head hitting the ground after a fall is part of the game.  Contact between players is a tough part to gauge.  A player will make contact with other players throughout the game.  Some of the contact is safe some is not so safe.
The major focus to look for Contact Above the Shoulder is the use of the elbow.  This contact usually occurs when players are challenging for ball that has been kicked by a goal keeper or ball that are being crossed into the penalty area.  Elbows are not the only point of contact when this occurs (feet, shoulders and heads are used also) but is part of the body that creates most of the problems.  When looking at elbows and other parts of the body, one must ask this question.  “Is the elbow being used as a tool or as a weapon?”
We all understand when jumping there is a need to create balance.  While in the air a player often times uses their arms (elbows) to create balance.  When the arms are close to the body, there is usually no problem.  When the arms are spread away from the body problems soon follow.  Once the arms spread from the body a referee must decide if the arms (elbow) is being used a tool.  By tool, I mean to clear space.  Using the arms below the shoulder to clear space, a foul is usually called.  When the arm and this case, elbow is being used Above the Shoulder to create space becoming dangerous to an opponent, a yellow card can be issued follow the calling of a foul.
The real hard judgment to make is whether the arm (elbow) is being used as a weapon.  I’ll use the term throwing an elbow in the direction of an opponent’s head (whether making contact or not).  The throwing of an elbow can be very obvious for all to see.  The elbow will move across the body to make contact.  When we see that it’s a no brainer.   A foul will be called and a red card will soon follow.  It’s the short compact movement of an elbow that is hard to see.  In this day and age of better coaching and higher quality of play; this activity has crept into our game as a part of intimidation as a way of establishing one’s territory on the field.
The gray area is when a player is playing in a reckless fashion and uses their head, shoulder or elbow to initiate contact without concern for their opponent’s safety.  Because they are within their own space when contact is made; they don’t feel that they’ve done anything wrong.  Hopefully a referee will pick up on the behavior and style of play of the player committing such contact and do what’s necessary to bring that players back into the level that the game is being played that day.
To keep all players safe we need to be concerned with Contact Above the Shoulder.  Is the culprit using a tool or using a weapon?
