bigfoot survival guide 2010!
« on: August 13, 2010, 07:35:38 PM »

Hi all. Longtime lurker, first time poster. And, since Dr Fred isn't posting much I thought I'd provide as much info as I can.
First, their are 325 teams registered. Also, Snohomish will be VERY busy with 3 things going on next weekend. Bigfoot, Freedom Fest, and The Taste of Music.
Hopefully I can guide most in successfully because the city has had the club come up with an new traffic plan. The only access in and out of Stockers will be from Lincoln Ave. north or south. So below are my suggestions.

EASTSIDERS
If your taking 405 north, consider taking HWY 522 to Monroe, take the first exit, go back under HWY 522 and follow the Old Snohomish Monroe HWY to Stocker. A great way and pretty drive. approx 10 minutes from the 522 exit.

SOUTHSOUNDERS/NORTHSOUNDERS
Option 1 above OR-From I-5, take the HWY 2 east exit. Go past Bickford Ave exit (1st Snohomish one), past the HWY 9 exit, and take the next exit. Follow second street into town and turn left on Lincoln.

REMINDER-with the new traffic plan, alot of the other side roads will be revised and one-way only, or closed for local parking only.

Notice I left HWY 9 out of the mix. The reason? Freedom Fest is off of HWY 9 and Marsh Road. Also, there is construction work on the HWY 9/Second street on ramp (southbound) and it will be CLOSED! HWY 9 to second Street (northbound) will be open, but you can't go out the same way you came in due to the Southbound closure. Thinking of taking the Marsh Road exit into Snohomish? Not a good idea because First Street will be partially closed for the Taste of Music.
Anyway. I hope this helps. The traffic plan should be posted on the Snohomish Youth Soccer website once it's finalized. On the good side, there will be a shuttle running from Stockers to First Street for anyone who wants to explore downtown without having to drive.
Should be a fun time for all, once your there.

Hey Swingin!!

What's the best way to get there from Federal Way.  We have a 9:15 game on Thursday!  Yikes!!  405 traffic, I-5 traffic!  I am not sure what will be worst.  Plus, which would be the most simple?  I think it would be coming from I-5 east on Hwy 2.

Mhall,
personally, I'd take 405 north and not I5. The only reason is you lose the carpool lane at Seattle. 405 has it all the way with no interruptions. But, being a northender, I'm not 100% sure. After you get past Seattle or Bellevue, both ways are about the same amount of time.
Also,
watch for the police northbound on I5 a couple miles past northgate, They like to sit by the busbarn exit. Around 175th I think.

MHall, I agree that I-5 east to Hwy. 2 would be the best way.  Swingin is absolutely correct that you want to avoid Hwy 9 and the west end of Snohomish if at all possible.  Take Hwy 2 past Bickford exit, Past Hwy 9 exit and take the 3rd Snohomish exit which puts you on the East side of town.  Go past Pilchuck Vet Clinic and hang a left on Lincoln.  Being a morning game, there may still be some parking left at the field.

Construction update!!!
HWY off ramp to 2nd Street in Snohomish (northbound) is now open, but the southbound ramp is closed. A little easier to use for getting there, but doesn't help much getting home.

This is the ramp off Hwy 9 correct?  I saw that it said closed through the 20th, but am very glad to see it open sooner!

Thanks everyone for the input.  Ended up that the wife took my son this morning and we woke up late in a panic.  Of course all worked out in the end and he got there in time.  Took I-5 all the way up and across on HWY 2.  Less confusing and much more straight forward.  Go Storm!!

Looks like the exit to 2nd Ave from Hwy 9 is still closed - at least it was when I tried it this morning.  Lots of traffic when I left this afternoon as well so plan accordingly.

Yes, still closed..  But here is a question...  If they show you on the tournament website that the preferred method of travel is South on Lincoln ave... why won't they let you turn LEFT out of the main parking lot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Getting to the fields a breeze................... getting home.. well that was another story!

Soccerfreak, understand your issue, sometimes it's just for the good of everyone to empty the parking as fast as we can. Lincoln Ave. is just not made for the amount of cars we're trying to get in and out. Turning right out of the 2 parking lots gets everyone moving without stopping traffic both ways. Just hope everyone understands, and keeps in mind this is the biggest 1 weekend tournament in the state all year. The only one that used to compare was the Evergreen Invitational @ Burlington. And they had way better access to work with.
This afternoon could be brutal with the Friday afternoon commuter traffic also.

BTW,
Blinkers help ALOT when entering AND exiting the parking lots. Keep it up!

Totally agree with you... just saying you shouldn't have put that on the map, if you won't allow us to turn that way.... However, now I know I need to park in the lot across the street....

Keeping in mind that the tourney is a MONSTER in size and the volunteers are pretty much like the rest of us - parents, not parking experts, the big lot across the street from the fields is a mess exiting at certain times.  Yesterday at about 5pm there were probably 100 cars STOPPED and waiting for quite some time - monitoring the backup in that lot will keep tempers cool and parents happy.  Otherwise, tournament is remarkably well-run and all seem in good spirits.  Now it's time for the d*** sunshine to show up.  Bigfoot is supposed to be HOT HOT HOT.  BTW.  WHAT?  NO CORN ON THE COB???  Refund please.

I agree on the corn, and the check's in the mail, HA!
We did notice the exit backing up and are trying to do better. That happens after every game change so we're tring to post people down there when it hits.
Just so everyone knows,
We do see the spots in the main parking lot, but we're not going to stop everyone so you can have it! We need at least 50 open then we'll stop the flow and get as many of the street as fast as we can. That's our main objective.
Also,
the worst thing so far has been people on their cell phones lollygaggin across the street!

Hi Swinginrichard
Question for you - do you know why bigfoot has renamed thier brackets - I notice a lot of premier teams are playing in the select brackets in the past these teams would have played in the silver bracket but now it seems very confusing and for the B teams that are premier playing  in the premier brackets its not really like v like competition so its making the competition seem unbalanced - some B teams can compete with A teams but thier are a lot that can't and don't really want to

Premier bracket is the correct place for almost any premier A or B team IMO. Waaaaaayyyyyy too many times in the past I've seen premier B teams drop down into the silver bracket of Bigfoot and crush everyone. I LIKE that they named the brackets premier and select. Just because you can't compete with the A teams in premier doesn't give you the right to drop down to silver and beat up on district teams for a tournament. Very few Premier A teams play Bigfoot any more anyway. The premier brackets are mostly B teams and a few A teams from Non PDL/RCL clubs.

Now, If you have a weak B team and you know you should be in the Select bracket, by all means drop down. I just remember Dos and Eastside used to send A&B teams to Bigfoot. A team played Gold and the B teams played silver because they didn't want to play their A team. They both should have been up in gold slugging it out with their A teams and the better teams instead of winning the finals in silver by 5-0 scores.

my Bigfoot survival tip. Don't park on the street on the main drag by the fields. They decided to start ticketing and towing today even though I couldn't see any no parking signs. Park in the lots and deal with the queue. Fortunately I've had early games and getting in & out has been pretty easy. I think the parking volunteers are doing a very good job.

I just looked at the select brackets and it looks like over 50% are composed of premier teams _ I think teams playing in PDL 1- 4 should play premier but what about in div 5?
Maybe it would be good to have premier silver and select instead of 2 select brackets - and I do understand when a club has a stong B team they should play up but with a weaker teams its not much fun especially  if all their regualr bracket(fall)  and like competition is playing select

I did notice the BU-13 Premier team playing the U-14 Premier bracket though. Not sure what you are seeing, maybe other clubs?

While I'm not sure, but in answer to the bracket question, Snohomish seems to be renaming their A and B teams to "premier" and "select". Some teams have done it, others have not.  Snohomish usually has decent A teams. Some are excellent. But the gap between A and B is usually quite a bit.  I kinda like it. Just because you PDL, RCL, NFL or whatever the hell it these days doesn't make you "premier". Just trying to be more realistic I guess.

Anyone know about the bike race that is supposed to take place Saturday, the 21st? Any idea where and when roads will be closed?

Your BU-14 B team won Division 3 last spring.  I think that means you should be in the Premier Division.  Also, I noticed several very good A teamers guest playing for the B team, so that strenghtens the argument even more that that team should be in Premier.  However, I see the team isn't exactly beating up on the other teams, so who knows?

Kinda shows the PDL div 3 and lower isn't premier doesn't it. They're matching up well is the select div. Your right about the guest players, but with only 11 on the roster all summer, they need some subs.
