Nice goal on Sunday v. Cal DA

SSFC U18's Jordan Schweitzer lines up and fires a rocket past the keeper.

Taking is seriously?  Why yes.  It is good for the mind to see how others view the game.  The comments are appreciated......

The comment was made about one of the toughest plays in soccer for a referee crew.  Goal line decision where a referee and AR have to be in sinc to get the call right.  I'm proud to say that we actually got it right.  The mechinacs were on spot......

Believe mere there were some mistakes that we made by the crew, that were discussed after the game.  The goal being to identify them so we won't make them again.

The laws deals with whether the entire ball has crossed any lines; going over the touch lines or over the goal line.

In decision dealing the ball being in and out of play, a referee's (AR's) eyes are on the ball not the feet or body position of the player(s) involved.

If decisions like this were made based on the position of a player's body; we would have a lot more to talk about.....

All in all that was a fun game to be a part of.

I think you didn't realize it was just a bit of a piss-take with the "goal line tech" remark....

Whitecaps went down to LA and played CHV and LAG. Both u18 and u16 went 1-1. u18 lost to Chivas 4-2 (down a man early in the game) and u16 won (not sure the score). u18 then beat LAG 1-0 but u16 lost (not sure the score).

There are reports @ whitecapsfc.com. Not particularly detailed....

Sounds like the LA teams played as one might expect. Apparently Alderson stood out over the two games as one would expect/demand of him.

Tacoma Tides will morph into Sounders U-23. This will be an interesting mix ultimately. The first USSDA grads are seniors in college, just  21 & 22 yo.  Will youth predominate? What other influx will happen? Will they compete in PDL or ...? Sawatzky is to be new coach.

Yes. PDL. A few names are already slated for the U23 roster, such as...

SIGI SCHMID, head coach

(What are your thoughts on getting a PDL affiliate?) "I think that's great. It's important for our academy kids to be able to come back here in the summers and play, and continue to grow and develop. When you look a lot of the academy kids who went off last year and had good seasons -- (Troy) Peterson at College of Charleston, Sean Okoli at Wake Forest, DeAndre (Yedlin) at Akron -- so now these guys have a place to come back to. It also gives us an opportunity to bring in some other players. College players I think would like to come in to the Seattle area to play some of their summer soccer, and it becomes a logical progression. It bridges that gap from the under-18 academy team into the pro team and becomes a great enhancement for the development of players and addition to their college experience."

I don't believe ACTIVE college players will be allowed to play on the Sounders u23 and then return to play college. PDL Pro rules state you can't have any college players on your roster. Of course anyone can go to college and play for Sounders u23 but they'd not be able to play PDL for Sounders u23. They could play for non PDLPro teams while also being current college players.

Sounder had better watch these rules carefully or they might be ending a players college eligibility without realizing it...

Other PDL Pro teams are Whitecaps and Kitsap....there are others.

ADRIAN HANAUER, general manager

(What do it mean for the Sounders to have this affiliation?) "I think we'll certainly know more over time as it evolves, but the intent is to help to fill one of the gaps in development that we felt like we had at this time, which is most importantly for us to bring some of our academy graduates, who are now in university, back for the summer so we can observe them, if it makes sense maybe bring them in to train a day or two or longer with the first team, but to just keep tabs on those players. Secondarily, there's certainly the potential that a player who doesn't make our team here can stay in the area and continue to train and get games with a good PDL organization and, again, allow us to keep tabs on them."

(And they'll remain an amateur team?) "Yes."

(So if someone you cut from training camp was interested in playing for the U-23s, they'd have to play for free?) "Yes. But there are lots of camps and things like that, so there are ways to get a guy a little bit of work and a few bucks in his pocket. But yeah, it's an amateur team."

They also have Tim Hortons:

http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/club-soccer/club-soccer-archives/nid-23697/Will-Vancouver-Whitecaps-steal-Academy-thunder

There's an interesting uprising going on in the Development Academy's U18 Northwest Division and the Vancouver Whitecaps are leading it.

The newest addition to the Academy, the Whitecaps have burst onto the scene with the intention of challenging the establishment - also known as, Seattle Sounders FC.

With a 9-2-2 record, which includes a 3-0-1 divisional mark, Vancouver has sent an early message that they're legitimate contenders. The 3-1 victory over the reigning division champion Sounders on December 17 further drove the point home.

Good on the SFC for running an amateur team!

VWFC is playing well at the USSDA level and should do since they have pretty much all of Canada to draw from, but it'll be interesting to see how the division goes when Portland jumps on board....?

Sounds like Caps u18 winger, Ben Fisk, is seriously impressing at training camp - and many are tipping him for an HG contract.

Can't find the article where they talk about it. It was an official Whitecapsfc.ca article and had loads of Rennie quotes.

Those who have watched the recent U-18 Academy kids perceive various standouts that may be ready for the U-23 team play. Many have not played against the size, speed of the 'older' skilled players who have gone to college. Many of the college freshmen Academy kids were awakened to another level and found themselves humbled this past college soccer season. For the most part, with the exception of a few young standouts, those who have proven themselves at college will likely be playing on the U-23 team, along with a few over 23's. It will be very interesting to see who shows up to try out for this team since it has the Sounders name and not simply the Tacoma Tides.

Big decisions for Sawatzky.

Sawatzky has said the u23's will be "former Academy players" so it'll be interesting to see which ones and how many of the squad will actually be former Sounders DA lads....or even which current DA kids will get call-ups.

As a result of this u23 play though you might see more HG contracts out of SFC???

ps-Ben Fisk left home for the trip to Arizona so I doubt he is getting a spot considering the unsigned wing/MF in Arizona currently. But I think he has another DA year left. ?? Clarke is down in Az though.

These four seem like locks to go from SSFC Academy >>>> U 23s:
Darwin Jones
Paul Christensen
Dominique Dismuke
DeAndre Yedlin

Now, I also will be curious about how these 'boys' do in a man's world, against full-sized adults ages 21-26ish. (PDL clubs can have up to 8 players older than 23)

Both Fisk and Clarke as with the other Whitecap '93's are done after this USSDA season in June/July. Make or break time as they say. They were suppose to have one-on-one meetings in January as to their future.

^Yep.

Expect them to sign in a lower tier Euro team, FC Edmonton, or maybe the new Ottawa NASL team if not signed by Whitecaps.

It will be interesting to see how this team develops as all the college players return from spring season, or their distant schools. For example, the team that plays the UW in spring season will not resemble the team that finishes the season. It is the way of many teams in the PDL.

The Pumas, on the other hand, tend to be at an advantage, having most of their team together early on.
