Watch 'em if you got 'em
« on: September 06, 2010, 06:10:13 PM »

Took some time this weekend to watch old DVDs of our children playing their first year of Select (U11, about five years ago). What a hoot.

To watch their play was fantastic, but it was also fun to see their teammates and girls on the opposition (some of whom would be future teammates).

We saw parents from other teams on the sidelines, many of whom became friends to this day. We saw players on teams on other fields that would eventually become teammates; referees who the kids would eventually work with; and we rekindled positive thoughts of a coach that we'd parted ways with.

We also saw a joy in their play that seems to have vanished as they've grown older.

It was a great way to spend a few hours before we start the cycle of school, school soccer, and premier games.

So if you have old tapes and haven't watched them for a while, I'd suggest popping some corn and taking the time. It'll be well worth it.

I too enjoy watching these old games. I have em all from U11. I have been taping for about 7 years now and find myself watching old games. Me and the fam love to watch the games over and over. We often remenisce about the old team and always look for players/teams/coaches that we have played. It is funny about player movement. Have tapes where kids have moved from team to team. Like you also have many with former opponents now teamates. We love watching the great wins and also the tough losses. I enjoy filming them and handing them out. Maybe somebody I film will turn out to be a superstar one day and I can say I knew them when.
