Boys High School RECAPS
« on: March 15, 2011, 05:40:07 PM »

Well the Academy vs High School got a lot of activity so maybe this thread will get more attention than it may have in the past.  How did your DS High School team do in their last game.  JV scores welcome too.  I'll start it off.

Battle Ground High School vs Prarie High School  1-0    (in the Couve)

These two schools are sister schools in the same Battle Ground School District.  First game for both teams.  BG is 4A and Prarie is 3A.  Big rivals of course.  Battle Ground known for its wrestling and Prarie known for girls basketball state championships.  Teams were matched pretty evenly.  Mix of club players, rec, and guys who only play HS.  I don't think there were that many seniors on each team.  I know Prarie was young last year.  For my DS on BG I think there are only 4 seniors.  Prarie was playing better overall soccer first half, but BG settled down and got some better soccer going in the second half.  Goal came with 5 minutes to go in second half.  Few feet outside corner of the 18 yrd box free kick awarded to BG.  Floater free kick off tips of keeper's fingers and into net far post.  Plug for my DS is he was back to playing Centerback.  In club that was his spot but recently lost position to stronger players.  He has been playing mid and forward for his club lately.  He commanded the back line well.  It included 1 freshman (club) and 3 sophmores (club) through most of first half and then athletic Jr or Sr (non club) went in for sophomore who moved to midfield.  DS was happy to play the whole game.

On a side note BG JV beat Prarie 4-0.

Couple of good Non-League games up north tonight. 4A Lake Stevens takes on defending state 3A champs Glacier Peak. Both teams should be real strong this year. Also, 3A Shorecrest (semi-finalist last year?-not sure) takes on always strong 4A Snohomish. Snohomish is without one of their star players and captain for at least the first half of the season while recovering from ACL surgery. Shorecrest is always a quality side. Both games should be great indicators of where everyone stands.

ESPNRise says Stadium started regular season play Monday against Decatur.
Game was just a friendly scrimmage, with Stadium winning 2-1.
Decatur player suffering a broken leg, Stadium player suffering a broken nose.

Anyone have a report from the Shorecrest-Snohomish game?  Thought the paper said it was a 3-0 win for Shorecrest and was surprised to see such a lopsided score.

Mich,
Not affiliated with either but went to watch. Anyhoo, my take on it:
Relatively even game the first half. Shorecrest scored on an defensive mistake. However, looked like Shorecrest had more of a plan and were better organized when going forward, where Snohomish didn't. Shorecrest also has a more dangerous front line, and better center mid support.
2nd half again seemed somewhat even, even though Shorecrest scored twice. First was a well deserved cracker near post. Snoho goalie wasn't expecting it and was caught flat-footed. 2nd one was a far post run and not picked up defensively by Snoho.
One thing I did notice is Snoho subbed alot, moved people around, and got everyone playing time. Shorecrest seemed more in it to win it, and hardly subbed at all.
Also, Shorecrest's size was evident. Seemed every position Shorecrest had 20 pounds on the Snoho players. I would expect a much closer game if they had a rematch, but Snoho has to deal with some serious coaching bias before they can play as well as they should.
But it ain't gonna happen....and that's a shame!

Battle Ground vs Skyview tonight at BG stadium.

Skyview has a win against the Camas powerhouse (2-1).  Battle Ground has win against rival (1-0).  Camas' excuse is a rebuilding year but I know they have plenty of talented young players.  I just think Skyview is strong.  So will be a tough match for Battle Ground.  I think James Nosack plays for Skyview so they'll need to keep their eye on him.  I know of a couple of decent players that I remember from last year that were Timber players at times but no roster posted on Skyview web site so not sure if any other big players (like James) to watch out for.  Skyview and Union should be Battle Grounds biggest league opponents.  Would like to see the rain let up before the game tonight, so can get some pics.

Welcome to high school soccer where anyone can be a star. Let the lunacy begin and let's hope that injuries will be kept to a minimum although I see taht there has already been a player with a broken leg. It's no wonder that the kid who caused a ruckus in a previous thread about not wanting to play high swchool felt as he did. :o :o :o

Thanks for the recap SR.  My DK has worked with the coaches of both teams so was curious how it played out.

Battle Ground got thumped by Skyview 0-4

Great player for Skyview up top killed BG.  Heard he plays for some Sparc team over in OR.  He scored 3 or 4 or all 4 goals.  Score should have been 0-3 due to offsides missed but doesn't really matter.  Skyview is strong.  Their backline was good.  Recognized many players from club.  They had two other superstars on the bench due to eligiblity (practice time).  One has been mentioned in WPS peridocially (James Nosack).  So it could have been worse.

Battle Ground needs to learn how to pass and get move off the ball.  DK ended up with injury.  Went up for ball and came down flat on his back.  He was not sure how it happened.  I thought he lost his footing.  Others thought he got bumped.  Bad thing his he had final day of state testing.  Nothing like taking along test while your back is killing you.

A suggestion that injuries are primarily a HS soccer consequence suggests an enthusiasm for St. Patrick's day that exceeds that of my most Irish friends.

Staduim 3 South Kitsap 0

Stadium is down seven or eight senior starters from last year,  but "so far" this new group is playing above expextations.

I can't remember the last youth game I heard of that ended with a broken leg and a broken nose in a "friendly".  I'm not saying it doesn't happen, I'm just saying it doesn't happen as often (in my experience).

I think it was more of a non league game than a friendly. They had a full compliment of ref,s and the game shows in the Narrows league standings and results.

The broken nose was not due to one on one contact. It was a valant facial block of an attempted long pass. ouch!

That happened to me once.  Luckily, I later broke it again and was then able to breathe through it once again.   A wonderful feeling!

Stadium 1 Shelton 0.  In Shelton 3-18 Friday evening.

Driving rain and the muddiest field many said they had ever played on made this a close one.

The young man in question was only luke warm on this suggestion of how to improve his pulminary capacity. Maybe after his black eyes go away he will be able to see the positive aspects of the double shot therapy!!  "Ouch"

It actually took the third breakage to set things to right.   Or if not quite right, then breathable.   There may be a less painful, more exact method of accomplishing the goal, I will grant that.

Nice Narrows League rivalry game Tuesday 3-22.

Stadium,  (Most of its talent leaving in last years senior class according to the king co. experts),  at home in the bowl v Bellermine (Many coming back).

Stadium playing better than critics conjuring indicated. "So Far"    Bellermine undefeated also,  should be good.

Report to follow tomorrow evening.

Ya know 64 I think I can detect a slight weaze in your response?  Maybe a fourth shot wil do the trick?     "OUCH"   You need to find the right person to take this theraputic PK though.  ??

Not only can I breath through it without any problem - the wheeze is from age, not the nose! - but Mrs. EW64 says it makes me look "distinguished".
