Was not there and even if I was would probably not comment on incident. Don't necessarily agree with the team penalty aspect of the new rule either. (3 red cards and you are denied post season) Having said that I have to say you can't have it both ways. Often times I have heard how soccer is very different than other sports and then it is the same depending on the issue. In all four articles there is no dispute by the coach that the first red card the previous week was not appropriate. Nor was there any dispute from the coach to the numerous yellow cards handed out during this game. I can only infer that this team tends to play with some enthusiasm, language, conduct, that lends itself to getting cards. From the articles it does not seem like this is a super finesse weak team.
The rule is there and everyone knows about it so you have to adjust accordingly. All of the disputes from those that were there are from the coach, players ((I assume) and fans who were there. That is fine but does not in and of itself mean any more than any other sport where coaches and fans think the officials did a bad job. Not a big deal and nothing to get excited about. Happens all the time. The idea that the WIAA is going to overrule a judgment call is ridiculous. A bad interpretation yes, judgement no. Never going to happen.
Thus, the whole problem as I see it is the team penalty aspect of the multiple reds. I have changed my mind on this issue. EW is right. I think officials are more reluctant to give our reds than before. In one article it mentioned that they were tracking this and it did not seem to be a problem. If multiple teams were being denied post season then maybe. It sounds like it is not a problem. The officials are more reluctant to give a red and there doesn't seem to be a run on teams being denied postseason becaue of it.. Much ado about nothing to me.
