Don't worry, once peeps on teams find out about WPS then U11's will explode.  Remember wise one that this is first year of select for most so all this is new.

Something like "Mufasa hear from one CP that FC Crush is changing their name to FC Crunch because the Kellogg family is sponsoring the team. Their new unis will be blue, white and have the Captain on the front saying "We're going to Crunch YOU!"

You know something close to the truth so peeps will think it's true :P

Don't you guys follow the WSYSA guidlines. We are not 'Select' at U-11 we, however, can have 'Developemental teams'[/b] A couple of Clubs are still in trouble for being 'Select' at U-11. After all we would not want these CP's to get confused as to the intention of the Club's, Coaches, parents or DD"s / DS's. I mean teaching is what it is really all about right?? Winning is just a bonus.....

What's the difference between 'Select' and 'Developmental'? Are we just talking semantics here? Mufasa think teams/clubs been referring to themselves as 'select' for a long time.

Select is a team that tries to be a local "All Star" team.  One focused developement and trying to win as many games as possible.
Developmental teams focus on individual growth, team gorwth but not necessarally winning.  If they finish a tournament without a win but played good they would be happy.  Everyone plays more equally.

just my cheesy guess

I mean teaching is what it is really all about right?? Winning is just a bonus.....

From the time that a child starts a sport until the time that they finish, the first question that they always hear is what?.... " Did you win?" closely followed by "Did you score?".

Theses questions come from grandma,  grandpa, siblings, school teachers etc, etc...

So even though they won't keep "official" score during spring or in your mind it's all about development and having fun...I guarantee that the child on the pitch knows the exact score and who scored them. Does it bother them if they lose?...yea for about 2 minutes..then they are off playing again...how long does it bother the parents?  I've seen some parents bring up a game a year later just to make a point.  How long does it bother the administration of your club?  Depends on the level you coach and the level of your club.  There is only a few that should worry about wins...MLS teams and National teams, everyone else should be about development, but sadly not the case..even in the youth level coaches are being evaluated by the Directors of Coaching on their win loss record.

So the earlier you teach that there is a winner and a "not-winner" in sports the better off your team will be as a whole and if you can make sure that they understand to be humble winners and gracious losers. Win without ego, lose without excuses, and never quit.

I was dishing a load of balderdash, when I said these teams were different. The WSYSA board requires that the U-11 are all considered developement. I guess that you would have to ask River Road FC and Cross and Dos and Mauaders and Emerald City and NWN and Eastside and others, whether they are developing players or with as many as 4 U-11's of each boys and girls, they are atempting to select their next state and regional champion out of a previous coaches hard work. Or are they developing players by having a team of "baby" players all playing a year up so they can learn to overachieve next year.
Who is around to help the players who do not achieve the highest level of play and get cut for someones first team. How many of these wonderful young players just quit because they got cut from the A team.
I am not sure the solution, however, developing from within would be a start in my eyes.

Sorry for the rant, kinda of a sore subject to me.

:?:  Curious: why a sore subject Coach? Would sincerely like to hear.

As I see it "select" just means there was a tryout process instead of players being assigned - as is supposed to happen in rec, not always the case. Development is what happens or not for each player/team over the year between tryouts. The "development" label for a team usually is a pc name for a c team, d team or baby team of play ups.

Just some food for thought:
Nothing wrong with teaching kids to work early, seek future advantages by playing up. Learning and planning how to be successful down the road by taking on challenge now is a great life lesson - kind of like getting a better job later by education/skill set development now.  Besides teaching how to win and lose, the game can and should teach how to prepare to win, then seek the win!!!! Learning how to prepare and win at sport often translates well outside. The sun is out; enjoy the day! :D

Mufasa agrees with coach that not every kid is ready to play U11 when they should be playing u9 or u10. BUT there are some who are ready so, isn't it okay for them?
