Didn't any of you play fantasy soccer during the World Cup last summer? Seems an apt example where thousands of managers selected players based on their ability to "score" more than goals or assists; I.e. Attacking runs, defensive clearances, minutes, shutouts, ...Soccer player performances are highly subjective but, there are many measures that can be objectively quantfied.

I will agree w/EW that the cost(money and or time) of collecting the data on youth players makes implementation unlikely or worse, we use poor player ratings combined w/bad CAP rankings to move further away from "like vs. like".

Back away from the silly idea of youth CAP scores for individuals and to the team CAP system.   In fact, lets go beyond that.   Let's take a look at the entire issue of "like vs Like".   It is not really used that way, as very dissimilar teams are placed together.   It is - in theory - teams of similar competitive levels (in terms of winning/losing) that are placed together.  You can have teams that play like Barcelona (short passing, posession oriented) playing with teams that are defensive and counterattack oriented teams or ones that just play physical footie all lumped together.

The like vs like is really a misnomer.   If we acknowledge that the system is designed to place teams of similar "competitive achievement" levels together, then perhaps we can recognize alternatives to the CAP system.

However, it may be that the powers that be are going to scrap the CAP so that they can permanently assign first division places.  And yes, there is plenty of precedent for that, now.
