A Saturday Morning Story by Brooke
... So, it's early Saturday morning (say, 7 AM on the 22nd), and you stretch in the early morning light and think, "Hmmm, what shall I do on this beautiful Saturday morning? I could sleep in, but I don't need more sleep. I could go shopping, but my credit card is screaming in pain. I kind of want to give back to the world, but I don't know that I can make a difference in one day... <yawn.>"
Have I ever got an idea for you: volunteer for Special Olympics! :-) That's right, for one day only, we have ~40 jobs left to fill at the King County Athletics (track & field) event on Saturday.
You ask: "What would I do, Brooke?"
I answer: "We need people to help with everything: from timing the races to measuring jumps and throws, to giving out awards. You name it, you can do it."
You say: "But I've never done this before!"
I reply: "It's okay, we'll train you."
You say: "But I have plans that afternoon that involves soccer and basketball and the list goest on."
I reply: "It's okay, we can use half-day and all-day volunteers. Any time you can give is worth it."
You ask: "Where is this event being held, Brooke?"
I answer: "In Shoreline, it's easy to get there, and we'll even send you nifty directions."
You ask: "What time should I be there, Brooke?"
I answer: "7 AM would be great, noon to five would be good too."
You say: "How do I sign up? This sounds like fun!"
I reply (with a smile!): "E-mail
kingcountysowa@yahoo.com or
Jill at
kermit1fan@yahoo.com and we'll make sure that you're on the list. (And we'll reserve a cup of coffee and a sweet treat for you that morning too!)
