Best League for foreign talent?
« on: June 04, 2011, 01:44:08 PM »

Two stars from WC that I saw last year were Gyan from Ghana and Sanchez from Chile I watched them both have great years one in Sunderland the other at Udinesewho will play in CL next year. Now both are hot transfer topics.
My question: is the EPL at a decent club  like Sunderland better than an Italian club not named Inter or ACMto ply your trade as a hot yung player?

Depends how young 'young' is. I would much rather be in the EPL as you have more competitions against more well known teams. Then again, you said young as in Gyan who is 25 and was brought to Sunderland, when the new 'young' is the likes of Chelsea preparing 20+ million euro bids for 18 year old Romelu Lukaku and 19 year old Neymar

Young is "yet to be established" in a recognized "good" league, ie, playing in Brazil, Argentina,France (  ) etc.
Many SAmericans do not like the culture of England
Italy, spain are more attractive to them
That said, certainly the EPL is considered the best League in the World
But not so great if you are not playing much...

What is puzzling to me is why there always seems to be an outflow of talent from Germany, one of the strongest and richest leagues in the world.  Perhaps one reason is that the Bundesliga gets a lot of talent from Eastern Europe that does not make it on the radar of the English teams and the English press?

Same could be said for the Erevidisie...many many good youngsters are hatched out of the Ajax program to play for a few years then be sold for millions OUT OF COUNTRY.

What is funny to me is that the lionshare of great EPL players are NOT English, while Spain, Italy and Germany have a higher percentage of home grown as their "stars".

If the EPL were English dominant, it would definitely NOT be the best League in the WORLD. This is proved year in year out for the EnglishMNT... The owners just have the most $ to splash...

Speaking of the EnglishMNT, how long will Capello stay at the helm? Seems like an awful lot of grumbling is going on about his 'mismanagement".
If Juve, Inter or ACM  underperform this year, I can see him back in Serie A .

Also great news for my beloved ASRoma which finally will get a cash infusion from the US coalition of Italian_Americans who have purchased the Club, Luis Enrique may soon be their next manager. From the Barca B team, which could beat most teams not named Barca A in the world, he is a fantastic coach steeped in the Barca tradition of tikitaka football. He wants to bring some of his young talent to Rome with him as well... I like!!

Well vms, remember that Luis Enrique is Barcelona Bred.   As soon as the tempermental Pep decides he cannot take the pressure anymore, then Luis Enrique will depart Roma and head back to Barca.

Just in - Sanchez, the inform winger for Udinese, has reportedly agreed to personal terms with Barcelona.   The club wants more than 30 million euros for him, though.  I do not know much about him, just the reports that he is "great".  Which does not neccessarily mean that he can fit in at Barca.  Barca are still persueing Rossi, it seems.  I would rather they picked up a strong center back.

I would say that Capello is going to stick around until after Euro2012.

Sanchez , Cesc and Rossi would be fools to go to Barca. Look at Afellay who is a phenom.he rarely sees more than 10 minutes.Pep does not sub much in his attackers.
Now if I were Vidic or Terry...

I think that Sanchez is gilding the lilly, but adding Rossi would be a good thing.  Messi would have less pressure on him, and barcelona would have more depth up top.  I do not see Sanchez being a midfielder that can fit in to the Xavi-Iniesta role, but I could be wrong.     Cesc could.  I would actually rather spend the same money on Cesc than on Sanchez.  That would give Barca depth everywhere but at Central Defense.

Afellay is young, and still learning to fit in.  After all, he came out of the Dutch leagues whose teams are not doing well in Europe lately.  It is easy to over-rate him.

All in all, paying 30 million euros for Sanchez is almost frivolous in my opinion.
