Anyone want to adopt our 4 year old chocolate lab
« on: June 10, 2011, 04:22:44 PM »

I hate to get rid of him but we are just not giving him the life and attention he needs.  Only two big things to note are dog aggression for dogs he doesn't know (lives and plays fine with long haird datschund and old small beagle) and the second is he is a big fellow (100+ big structure but could use some weight loss).  Will try to post pics.  If you are interested I can fill you in on anything you would like to know.  Working through a local group called Second Chance companions.  We actually adopted beagle from them that was going to go to pound.  She is quite old now but small and manageable.  Also I'll pay for transportation to northern WA and handle any other ancellary issues that may need to be taken care of.  He just needs a better home.  Ideall more room to run and someone to give him more attention.

Oh his name is Hullabaloo and we call him Baloo for short ;)  He is not a howler continuous barker that the name would imply.  He does bark at people walking by our yard or growls at dogs over fence or those walking by.  He is a sweet dog and has no problem with adults, youth or children.  Just other dogs.  May would go after a cat since he really has not exprience with them.

Hullabaloo looks well loved.  Good luck finding a new home for him.

Our family took in a dog from the pound, a runt St Bernard, who does not get along with other dogs.   And was given some irregular training, apparently, before we adopted him.
So we cannot accomodate.  But I understand your situation.

Thanks for the comments guys. I really feel sorry for him.  Our old house was lots older and we didn't care as much and had him inside.  He even slept at our feet for the longest time.  We moved into a brand new house last spirng.  He goes from crate in the garage to outside on the deck and in the yard.  But we are also being a little shelfish wanting to keep the yard and deck nice.  A big dog is just not good for that.  Also he respects me as the Alpha but my wife or kids are not as dominant over him and my wife is a little scared of him when he gets aggressive due to another dog.  It all started several years ago.  We were keeping his half sister for friends of ours and was walking them around the block in our neighborhood.  A woman was walking her two dogs across the street from us.  I had his sister.  My wife had him.  The other dogs started yapping at us.  He got worked up snapped at my wife's leg (one tooth mark) and then bolted from her grip.  He might have even sensed her fear (she has anxiety issues) and thought he needed to be protective.  I couldn't stop him and he went at the bigger dog of the two.  Big deal with the people afterwards could have been worse.  After that my wife would never want to walk him again.  Understandable.  So I'm the one that has to walk him and I guess I'm lazy or too busy.  Again he just needs better owners.  I keep thinking I'll just go to training with him but money and time always get in the way.  I would love to see him in a dog park one day but I don't think that will ever happen.  I think someone could work with him and mostly fix his issues.  He just needs some extra attention in that area.

If you know anyone that might be interested pass it along.  He would probably do good on a farm, though he really does like to be around people.
