Regionals/State monies ?
« on: June 22, 2011, 02:19:11 PM »

First I want to give big kudos to all the teams that went to Utah and the ones that are in Idaho right now, great job Kids.

I heard that those teams that are participating in these events received no monies from the state. They were told since they did not collect money from the state semi's and championship games Terry and Doug said not give money to the teams.
Does anybody know anything about this. Is this true ? Has the state given monies to teams in the past ? Or does the state help out once you get past regionals and are going to nationals ?

I know EFC White applied the last two years.  I believe last year they did recieve some funds and this year they did not.  I have no idea why either way.

There are line items for Regional Cup teams and President's Cup teams in the WYS budget which is approved by the associations. Funding for Regional Cup teams has been allocated the past few years. Funding for President's Cup teams has not been budgeted for. It appears that the board did grant some money for President's Cup teams last year even though there was zero budget for it. Based on a read of the documents online at the WYS site.

District 1 contributes monies to teams traveling to regionals (and to young referees!) when they request financial support which is almost always.

What are the dates on said documents?  It is ironic that one of the intentions of the Constitutional Convention was to increase communication and transparency, yet it appears as though the organization has taken steps backward.  But, I digress...

Bluesy, we all know that the new "top down" regime is not about transparency, it is about corporate power.

I do not believe teams received money from the state this year for Regionals.

Not sure how it all works in Washington but I know in most States that the State Association covers the entrance fee to the Regional and Presidents Cup Tournament for their teams. This can be around $700 per team which adds up to about $11,200 for Regionals alone (not including wildcard teams) and less for Presidents Cup because of the lesser age brackets (Presidents Cup is U13-U17).

In 2009 and in 2010 we received money from the state to help offset the team costs to travel to regionals. In 2011 we were told by the state that we would not be receiving any money from the state for regional travel. I was told that the reason for this was, that in the past there had been an admission at the gate at Starfire during the semi finals and finals of the state tournament and that the monies collected were used to help offset costs for teams traveling to regionals. This year there was no admission fee charged to spectators entering Starfire during Semi's and finals and subsequently no funds were collected to distribute to teams traveling to regionals. In the end we were surprised to receive a little money from the state in 2011, however it was much less that in the past.
