now i may be wrong but it looked to be a great number of NWN AND WPFC players picked,So if your child is very big and belongs to one of these clubs you are in!!! let the politics begin :o And also had heard that the 99 NWN team half of them made it in to the pool, please sombody tell me is this true? is that far?

This was quite the inappropriate assertion...The girls that attended EPD sessions were evaluated IMO on their soccer skills and abilities.  That is what most coaches will allow to dictate who makes the final pools.  If a certain club has multiple players populating the pool,,,Look no further than what their club/coach is teaching them.  To insinuate politics takes place in the selection of a U13 soccer squad is pretty comical and unnecessary.

Yes...  I hope that you are being sarcastic.  At least in the G99, the team was picked 20 minutes into the final tryout after only a few simple drills were finished.  Also, the coaches weren't even pretending to watch all of the players do these drills.  I don't think that it was coincidence that the girls that the coaches were watching were also the ones that they knew by name as soon as they walked onto the field.  I was very hopeful that they would be looking to represent the entire state when they were doing regional tryouts.  When the regional tryouts were canceled, we shouldn't have wasted our time.

Whether intentional or not, coaches are going to select (or at least be more interested in watching) players that play for their own teams and their own clubs.  Without independent evaluators (coaches that coach OTHER age groups than the ones trying out), all players will NOT get a fair chance to show their skills.  It was a very disappointing experience.  I don't care that the girls that we knew didn't get selected, I care that they didn't even get evaluated.

i was told by a friend that none of the WPFC players were chosen for the G99 group so I think the oringinal post that stated they were in due to politics was incorrect.  I also know of a very good G99 player from WPFC whom I expected to make the team but was hampered by an injury; if the coaches were taking players they knew based on past play I would have expected her to be on the team and the fact that she is not is completely on how she did at tryouts with an injury and not on her past play or her club.

full disclosure: my child did not try out and I was not there so this information is from a friend who was and not first hand.

There is a mix of many D1 players chosen for the 99's.  Xfire / EFC / NWN and WPFC.  Think there is even one or two from Spokane... Many others she didn't know...
Vast mix of current 98 teams and 99's so I am told.
Didn't know the coach was Emerald City / Seattle United.  Thought it was DOS?

This I can confirm as my DD got the "Congrats" email a few days ago and I asked her who she knew and where they were from.  She knew many girls and she was with the group that sat on their hands the second to last tryout.  She virtually had no idea who this coach was at the first showing so I find it slightly hard to believe there were any politics going on.  I still have no clue who the coaches are.  Never spoken with them or had any previous communication with them.  Frankly, I would have a hard time picking them out of a 4 suspect line-up.  Now that the dust has cleared I will do my parental due diligence and get familiar with all involved.

Not sure what all the hoopla is about?  Drop your kid at S.F.  Let them do their thing.  Make it... Great!
If your kid is lucky enough to have played well for years and made a rep or name for themselves.  Word spreads.
All I told mine, prior to all this, was to talk a bunch, smile a bunch and cleanly kick some rump.  No more.  No less.
It is their deal.

Love them. Support them and give them an avenue to make their place in their small world.

Cleo,
What in the world were you trying to convey?
I read it 3 times and couldn't make hide or hair of it? Money and lists???
The coaches aren't proven?  Maybe.  Is that an issue of yours? Why would you care?  I ask because you seem to be trashing the product.

$ is an issue?  It is for everyone in this country.  Let alone the state of WA.... Pay to play.  Don't want it?  Move on.  Easiest way to put something out of biz?  Don't support.  Run your house anyway you like.  Noone bought their way in.  Only money that left my pocket was a tryout fee and for a pint and a slice at Mad Pizza.  If you paid more than that, other than gas and parking, you have been had!  :drinks:

Mine made 99's but plays on a current 98.  Who is getting stronger and who is getting weaker?  This is EPD.  Not regular league or RCL or whatever acronym they want to come up with now...

Clarify.  Love to hear your side.  I have an older kid in the system.  Never wanted to play that much extra (old ODP system) even though she plays at an extememly high level  (and almost every minute) for one of the top 1-2-3 teams in the state.  This is new to my fam.  Younger one lives and breathes soccer (along with all A's in school) so here we are.

I guess I didn't make hide nor hair of your perspective I assumed you've had some knowlege of the program or read the FAQs I felt the need to sum this up for many who run their house where money is an issue whom struggle to help their players achieve success despite. my player is on a '98 D1 team that will be ECNL next year. the opportunity should always be their for successful soccer players. if you take a look or even care about the truth the most elite WYS programs and clubs have to turn their nose up to many great soccer players at a young age. If your just OK with that and the commen sence doesn't hit home that's just how it is then. I for one would like to share a pint and a slice with you and bask in the glory of our kids but I will always champion for equality and critique their mentors.

Cleo, doesn't that ECNL team that your DD plays on, exclude players that don't have the financial means to pay for the program? And if so, how do you feel about it? Are you a champion for those kids too, or do you only champion causes that exclude your player?

You beat me to it BB.
Talk about walking on both sides of the fence Cleo.
You will drop the coin for ECNL because you are already on the squad.
But god forbid you don't get treated equal (cuz she didn't make a new team) and it's all about the $$$ and it is an elitist product now...

Maybe time for a sip of "whine" and a bite of humble pie. Wait until next year and your ECNL experience. All of a sudden you will have B and C team players on your team. You know why?  Because their mommies and daddies can afford it.  Talk about teaching little Suzie DD a life lesson.  "yeah sweetie. I know you practiced all these years to be the best of the best... But Carrie "two left feet" will be on your team now too" and yes, I have facts and am living this situation right now with other DD.

Let's talk next year. For now try and have her win some games and go after a state trophy. Knock NWN or WPFC off their perches and take pride in it...

Here are 2 ways to looks at EDP and ECNL. This is assuming that you have aspirations to play in college

Xfire is $4,500 and that's it, unless you want to travel as a parent. Travel expenses are covered. Also includes a 1 week summer residential camp at Camp Casey. Team and club fundraising is required. Don't know much about WPFC fees.

XFire plays in front of all top college coaches in the country(90% of G90(they played in the Red Bull League), G91(100%) and G92(90%) girls got scholarships to colleges) A local kid was identified at an ECNL tournament as a National team prospect and invited to National team camp(twice) :drinks:

EDP costs are now $2,000 if you go to regional camp. Add that to $2,500 for team fees and $1000-2000 for out of state club team travel and you get to $5,500-$6,500(maybe add more to that at U16 and 17 because these are important years)

Ask a college coach where he goes to recruit and he will tell you that because of limited resources, they go to state championships and ECNL tournaments. Don't go to too many showcases any more.

My DD played at Crossfire,  never could crack the ODP line up, even after many attempts, and as a freshman, was a starting center back at a large D1 school(That did quite well last year).  But couldn't make the ODP team. ???

I think that I have my extreme bias clear.

Just wanted to add my 2 cents

The ECNL kids also practice 3 times per week. If they play RCL, add 1 day. If they play in NWCL then they are at 5 days per week in at least 2 of those months & 4 days during RCL. How often to the ODP kids get together to train or play vs similar talent?

Also, in addition to the ECNL showcase events, they have regional conferences. This is HUGE for local college coaches & players. If Mustang & Pleasanton come up in May, they will have 20 different teams play @ River Road & 60 Acres in all age gorups. This is much easier for our local coaches to have a look at any player from either team at various age groups competing against high quality talent versus travelling to a showcase to see the same match. This works well for any NW kid looking at a NorCal school as well, trying to get a coach from down there to look at her. No showcase, no hotel, just come & see me coach. Ill be at the Mustang Complex in two weeks.

This is just a copycat girls version of the USSDA Academy for boys.

WW and BB are riding the same cloud or just morons. just throwing opinions out there doesn't warrant your righteous rants ??? she'll likely make the travel team from the pool players listed.  Worth while experience for most. eastside needs all the help they can get to keep up with the ECNL teams in the near future and beyond. lets think of more ways to boost their ego and drain the pocket book.

I just can't see any upside in trying to get you to understand my earlier point, and now that I have been harnessed with the handle of Moron, I think I am going to run with it, (the new handle that is) Good luck with the grapes, you can make wine, raisins or yummy bran muffins with them... :drinks:

WOW don't look in the mirror Cleo. Sounds like your statement from before is an opinionated rant.  I could be mistaken. You may have empirical facts about the $$$ and the " coaches with no proven success"

I have to agree with WW and BB the Moron ;D It does sound like you have sour grapes that your DD was not "Chosen"  I find it funny. We justify our kids team because they are on it. And the other teams all have warts :o

Whats weird about the tryouts is there were people selected that were not even there?   How does that happen?   How does a coach that has only won 2 games get to coach a EPD team and select them?   Just some questions that seem to be out of line with the thought process of the best are selected and that the best coaches should be the ones used.   Since I know numerous kids at a few age levels I am amazed that some made it and others did not.  there wer state champs that did not make it but others that did.  If it were just about talent or skill then it would have been obvious but since I watched one age group all the way through and know the other ones it is very strange!

Well done to all three players.
I wonder what El Presidente for Life think about this, since he once congratulated Eastern Washington for getting 8% of the players on ODP rosters while contributing 16% to the total number of WSYSA registrations.
One out of three?  He must be going back to math class now.
At least he fired Schumacher who set him up for that screw up.

I am curious about the 97 boys pool.  They had a sesssion about 2 weeks ago and told the boys they would let them know within a week or so.  My DS has not gotten an email either way, but one of his friends did get a rejection message.  Anyone out there know the scoop?  Thanks

Yeah, the EPD has the wrong e-mail address for your kid.

OK, sorry, just funning.   I could not resist.   The opening was there, screaming   "Do it!   DO IT!!"

I'm sure your kid will be fine.
