Correction Hanford 9-0 over Kennewick. Wow
The Kennewick program is not what it used to be, a decade ago. They have lacked continuity in coaching, but much more importantly, the demographics of the HS population have changed dramatically. While this has not hurt the boys side much, it has made trying to put together a competitive girls program "A whole new ballgame".
I hvae great respect for the coaches and players in the Kennewick girls program. Many of the girls have never played soccer until they joined the HS teams. Yet they compete as hard as they can, as well as they can, and they do not give up while there is an ounce of energy left in their bodies.
Yes, the Kennewick Lady Lions ran into a powerful, well coached Hanford Falcons team today. One that scored the limit of goals that their coach would allow them to do. (None of this 23-0 nonsense that another school in the Tri-Cities infamously undertook against Kennewick a couple of years ago).
But if you added up all the years of organized soccer by the Falcons roster, you would likely come up with more than two centuries worth. Kennewick is lucky if they have half a dozen kids who have much club experience at all. Yet they go out there and give it their best. My hat is off to them.
