Didn't see anyone else report this press release.

A couple of points to note; WYS continues to hire more staff and the focus WYS is to professionalize and expand tournaments and other competitive programs. It appears they realize that their state league is dead. Maybe Mr Moran will convince the powers at be that opening up the state cups to all competitors is a good thing and WYS shouldn't be using the cups as a threat in an unrealistic attempt at keeping teams in their leagues. That obviously isn't working.

The only cups that WYS can open to all competitors is the Commissioners Cup or the Presidents Cup.

Both the Championship Cup and Challenge Cup are entry points into USYS Regional/National Competition and subject to their entry rules.   WYS State Cups are Restricted Tournaments ... just as the Washington Cup / USCS Regional Tournaments are.

Who's rule requires that teams must play in a league?  Is that USYS or WYS?   That is more restrictive that USCS, where you only need to be carded.

Actually the USYS President's Cup (where Challenge Cup winners go) is not available at every age group, and there is certainly no requirement for WA to participate in this meaningless new Cup at any age.  You'll have to look for another excuse.

For that matter, the USYS requirements are minimal (I believe that all they require is a league of 4 teams). Obviously every team in Washington meets the USYS requirements - those teams currently ineligible are in that situation because of a unilateral decision by WYS not to sanction activity/register teams that in every other respect would meet USYS requirements. (Well perhaps in the case of the loss of Vancouver (9% of Washington's population) OYS bears some responsibility as well.)

Looks like adults creating more job opportunities in youth sports. This isn't filling an existing position, it's creating an additional one. Looks like more fee increases for an unjustifiable added position to me.
Poor Gary White must be so overworked.

The good news is that Matt Moran is a great guy, with a high degree of integrity.  I have had the pleasure in meeting with him on several occassions and he loves the game and the kids that play it.... (he's not bad on the field either)..

Give him time, and don't pre-judge him or the position that he has...... lets see what happens next.

Not pre-judging anybody. He could be the Pope and it doesn't justify the creation of another paid position when membership is declining.
Now don't get me started on GW.........

Anyone know what the cash reserves are for WYS?  These guys' burn rate exceeds inflows, we already know that. And this was before this hire.

Reduction in player counts across the board. Requested fee increase pulled.  No increase in the RCL league fees.  Effectively the death of state league.  Pulling of RTC funding by Sounders. Loss of corporate sponsors.  What is missing in the list?

Yet staffing line item on the WYS budget continues to go up, 300K or more in the last budget.  And the average salary per staffperson is increasing.

This all translates into one of three scenarios for members:

(a) Higher to all or much higher fees for a subset of our membership
or
(b) Less staff through a contraction in the state organization.
or
(c) No WYS in 3 years.

Time will tell.

WSYSA may have gotten a new sugardaddy sponsor, one that is kicking in a quarter to half a million a year, and that is where the money is coming from.
No I was not being sarcastic and yes it is theoretically possible.   Wasn't someone hired based on his fundraising expertise?
Maybe it was El Presidente's investment in Solynadra that paid off?
OK, there I was being sarcastic.

We could have our district commissioners ask about it.
OK, there I was being facetious.  Of course El Presidente has emasculated the district commissioners and the associations emasculated themselves.  El Presidente is answerable to no one, particularly since he packed the state board with his own creatures.

And it is no good looking at the published state budget, that is as fugible as the WSYSA Bylaws, Guidelines, Rules and Procedures.

Anyone know how much was left in the state's reserve from last year?   And how long it will take El Presidente to burn through it?

Effectively the death of state league.

...but..but...but...I thought the state leagues were going to be "revamped and reenergized " this season?    ;)

Until Todd Lincoln is removed, nothing is going to change and the RCL will still run WYS.

Amen, but it runs deeper than simply Todd Lincoln.

The job discription is a basic wordsmith spin of nothing.
"Manage" the 4 state cups? Who did it before?
"Create new opportunities for growth and development". WTF is that?
"Expanding current programs" Maybe this is what Metz is talking about. Rebuilding the league....they killed.
"Create new tournaments" which may actually hurt it's members  if club tournaments on the same dates.

Looks like the tail really is waggin the dog.

Matt's a good guy, be interesting to see what he contributes...a great move to bring in a quality person on board.  Weather or not they could afford it, I think that's their issue to work out and I'm sure they have it handled.
