Boys 98 Top 10

Through the midpoint of the fall season, here is my stab at the top 10.  Admittingly I know little about most teams but am hoping this list draws out some more detailed information on our 98's.

1.  Wpfc Black
2.  Crossfire James
3.  Eastside Red
4.  Washington Rush
5.  Seattle United
6.  Tacoma United
7.  GRFC
8.  Whatcom
9.  Nwn's Red
10. FP Fury Red

Honorable Mention:  Blackhills FC, FW Storm, Sun City

I think you have Fury too low but I'm not sure where I'd put them. I'd flip flop Estside & Xfire also.

After the top 3, there is quite a drop off. Those 3 teams are loaded.

Interesting to have Fury in the 10.  They are playing PSPL and not facing a lot of competition.  It would be really interesting to put them against one of these teams and see how they would do.  That's how unfortunate it is for a team like Fury to not be allowed to play in the RCL!!  What do you do with a team like this, who is hungry for competition but they best the can find is playing in the PSPL?

If they win their super group they will play NWCL next fall. Plus, A super group win our their resume will get lots of flight a match ups in tournaments. If they go to GRFC's in the winter, we wont have to wait too long...

NWCL showed this fall that what is posted on the PSPL site is not true.  No guarantee that the winner of the Super League will get an automatic berth in the NWCL.

Crossfire is playing up in the U14 division and holding in the middle of the pack.  EFC has played Wpfc and Crossifre at least once or twice this year and has lost each time and is why I chose them for the third place, but I agree, there does seem to be a drop after the top three.

Rush is making a case to be considered in the conversation along with the top three but hasn't cracked through the glass ceiling yet.  I believe EFC and Rush play this weekend or next.

Fury has a strong gf vs. ga but I have not seen them play recently to be able to put them higher up in the top ten.

Last years winner out of Seattle (blue arrows) got the "automatic" bid and then managed one maybe two goals for the entire season, while conceeding more than 60 goals.  This may be a reason why an automatic bid is not being used.  Then again I noticed many more ISC teams and maybe the directors of this league simply lock in clubs with multiple teams which equals multiple dollars instead of awarding an automatic bid to a random independent team.

Great point, tournament choices can easily place Fury against these top teams.  Fury participated in the Rainier Challenge top division and didn't fair too well, however that was earlier in the season.  Fury defeated GRFC Red in the finals of the B group of the crossfire challenge too.

I have had the conversation before with some of the older age groups regarding placing teams in top 10's or whatever it maybe.  I love the fact that a team like Fury is being recognized in a list like this.  I just wish they had opportunities to play the teams at the top of this list during a season.  And it frustrates me to know that a team like Fury won't get that chance in regular season because they are not allowed to play in the RCL.  And here's even the worst part in my mind.  Does the team move to another club in order to play in the RCL, or do kids leave in order to play on other teams that give them better competition?  Questions without answers!

Teams like Fury are a victim of their own success in some ways.  A district team that shows strength, wins, rises to the top of district but can only find stronger competition in summer tournaments and the state tournament.

Players moving to find stronger competition doesn't bother me so much since players leave teams all the time for one reason or another, even rcl teams have players leave for another club that is viewed to a better situation.

Very true about kids leaving.  It would just be nice if teams could have an opportunity to play top competition because of their ability to play not what club they belonged to.

Agreed. From what little I understand it looks like the nwcl is making an effort to sign up the best teams for this league.  I know my ds's team would love an opportunity to play in this league because you get to play the best.  Now if only my kids team could put enough wins together to get noticed.   ::)

I think the nwcl can provide something the state, pspl, and rcl cannot, an opportunity to play the best based on performance.  Each league does have the best of the best play in the top divisions, but there are no cross-league games.  An rcl does not play a pspl.  The nwcl has shown a willingness to place a rcl vs. district or pspl team.  There is still subjective opinion on what constitutes a competitive and the best teams but I am hoping that the nwcl continues to adjust and tweak the system as it has done to provide the strongest teams.  wishful thinking???

Not sure the fury team belongs top ten though. The 1 tournament they played the top division they didn't do well at all. Crossfire they won the second division and also won the Snohomish Bigfoot playing in the lowest division. I believe to be top ten they should step it up in the summer when they have the ability to play the better teams. At the Bigfoot tourney FP 98 b team played a higher division. Blackhills looks to be a team on the rise have played tier 1 currently tier 2 and doing very well.

Since I'm a newbie to posting, I'm going to do my best. I've been watching the forum for some time now; always thinking that I should chime in, but not yet comfortable with doing so. This subject spoke to me as I have a DS at this level and his team is always looking to improve their level of competition; although this is difficult as they don't belong to an RCL club. I wanted to clarify about the Fury B team playing in the upper division over their A team. I assumed the same, but because my DS's team was playing in the tournament I asked the director about the different division levels and he stated that there wasn't any difference between Silver 1 and 2.  His reasoning for two divisions was that there were too many teams to play in one division and that there wasn't any discrimination of skill level for team placement it's just the way teams fell.

I had the chance to watch WPFC play Crossfire at Champions League a few weeks ago. WPFC Boys 98 are an explosive and fast offensive team at times, however their defense is just average. Crossfire has some quick forwards who were able to penetrate WPFC's back four repeatedly. Crossfire is a great one touch passing team. Eastside probably has the best back four defensive team in Boy's 98 RCL 1, but do not have the offensive firepower that both WPFC and Crossfire have. WPFC plays Eastside in two weeks and this will be a good one. I would also include Blackhills at #10.

Did someone say WPFC's defense was average? Six goals against in 10 games seems a bit better than average. Just sayin...

The best defense is a strong offense, I think that is what the poster was saying, strong offense keeps teams scrambling for the entire game.

EFC took down Rush 4-0, nice win and it creates seperation from EFC from the 3rd place team in the standings.  EFC plays Wp this upcoming weekend.

Whatcom took down FW for another win

Nwn's continue to slide, losing to GRFC

TODAY'S GAME is GRFC vs. EFC

6 ga leads Division one, Eastside has only conceeded seven goals, right up there with Wpfc's defense and until this past weekends 0-4 loss Rush had only given up seven goals as well.  A case can be made that Eastsides defense is in fact stronger since it holds teams scoreless without all the offensive power that a crossfire or wp team has.  Things that make you go  ???
