Highline FC hires an Executive Director
« on: December 11, 2011, 10:47:32 AM »

Interesting development. Michael Murphy was on the board during the creation of Seattle United, has been a force at Westside FC...and now is the first-ever Executive Director at Highline FC.

Is some sort of West Seattle area club merger next?

"Stuart Mathews, President of Highline Premier, added “Michael brings a comprehensive understanding of where we are going as a club and a background in getting systems, processes and personnel in place to strengthen youth soccer organizations in growth phases. Our program’s oversight on both the execution of its strategic plan and the daily club operations could not be in better hands with Michael’s history of documented success at the youth levels. Michael has become one of the state’s emerging talents in helping structure new youth soccer services organizations."

Well done to HPFC.   I expect to see some real positive growth in this program now.

I guess I might ask some questions. Why did Murphy leave SU? After leaving, I am told he then tried to go to a few other clubs and they said no, does anybody know which clubs and why they might have said no.

In some cases ED are paid positions, does anybody if this one is? If it is paid, you have a smaller Club fighting the good fight to stay a foalt but bring on more salary.

Then why position yourself with Crossfire from a travel stand point instead of joining Dos/GRFC. Guess I still trying to understand what is really going.

Is this all just a big sandbox issue?

Well, no replies.......

Still think the best move may have been to join GRFC and Dos right down the hill.

Positioning with Crossfire makes more sense.

1. It gives the HPFC players and avenue to the Academy program.

2. It allows Crossfire to expand its player base at the Academy ages.  Currently Crossfire feeds it Academy teams at the expense of their RCL teams.  Expanding the pool might mean a better Academy team and in the end stronger Crossfire RCL teams since they will now be depleating the pool simply to field teams.

3. This type of arrangements allow both clubs to still field RCL teams at younger ages.  A HPFC/GRFC/DOS merger would widen the pool but shrink the number of teams that can be fielded if the RCL held the clubs to the numbers published.

It gives HPFC nothing. Its better players already have access to either Academy through the tryout process. Without being in the Club you can not be a development player, USSDA has already ruled on that, so players would have to leave HPFC to do that. As far as point #3, for the time being it does, but I guess that may change.

To me, it gives HPFC nothing but a press release and nothing to help out the club, wait but if it merged maybe the new ED and the DOC might not have as big a roll, would that mean pay cut.

Anybody have the enrollment number of HFPC 4 years ago.

I think GRFC/DOS will get more players from HPFC then Parents driving to crossfire.
