Scores and highlights from Wednesday and Thursday

The Lions came into the Les Schwab Winter Classic at Auburn Adventist Academy ranked No. 17 in the nation by ESPN. Their school website says they won three straight national championships from 2007-09.

Cleveland, their opponent Wednesday night, was unbeaten and ranked No. 6 in Class 3A by The Seattle Times, but is a young team. The Eagles had to come from behind to beat Franklin last week and, frankly, I thought they might be in for a rough time -- even though Potter's House had beaten Wilson of Tacoma (ranked No. 3 in 3A) by just two points the day before.

The Eagles were up for the task, pulling off the upset in overtime, 77-75. Makayla Roper poured in 31 points to lead the way.

"She was money from everywhere on the court," coach Stephenie Wheeler-Smith said.

The coach knew it was going to be a wild night when Roper ended up hitting a half-court shot at the end of the first quarter that was intended a pass.

Potter's House took a two-point lead with seven seconds left in regulation, but MyMy Ladd drove the length of the court for a layin to send the game into overtime. And in the extra period, it was a pair of free throws by Ladd that put Cleveland up 77-75 inside the final minute. Potter's House missed at the other end and Joyce Harrell rebounded with 22 seconds remaining. The Eagles wound up turning the ball over with two ticks on the clock, but the Lions didn't have enough time to get in position for another shot.

Ladd finished with 10 points and Alexia Mefi contributed 12.

So congratulations to Cleveland on an impressive victory! And now onto some highlights from other Wednesday games reported to The Times:

Les Schwab Winter Classic

Oregon City 66, Garfield 42

Nyasha Sarju scored 19 in the loss and Cierra Levias added 11.

Wilson 89, Foster 20

No Wilson scoring provided and Foster didn't have anyone in double figures.

Alameda (Calif.) 55, Auburn Adventist 17

No Alameda scoring provided and again no double-figure scorers for Auburn Adventist.

Doc Larson Roundball Classic

Wasilla (Alaska) 47, Lake Washington 38

The Kangs fell despite the 18-point effort of Hunter Hopkins.

Nike Tournament of Champions

Auburn Mountainview 50, Indio (Calif.) 40

After two tough tourney losses in Arizona, the Lions got in the win column as Cait Carr drilled 20 points and Hattie Kosko added 10.

Non-tournament games

Lake Stevens 69, Marysville-Pilchuck 41

Brooke Pahukoa powered the Vikings, ranked No. 3 in Class 4A, with 22 points and got help from Katie Goddard (16) and twin sister Brittney Pahukoa (12). M-P was paced by Emily Enberg and Amanda Klep with 10 apiece.

Stanwood 43, Snohomish 36

Renee Lucero (15 points) and Paisley Heckman (14) keyed the victory for the No. 7 Spartans. Snohomish's Julia Young scored 13.

Kamiak 51, Edmonds-Woodway 48

The Knights, who trailed 22-16 at halftime, were paced by Erika Larson (16) and Kate Blackwell (13). E-W got 13 from Madeline Kasper and 11 from Samone Jackson.

Arlington 74, Monroe 54

Megan Abdo led four Arlington players in double digits with 14 and was followed by Lindsay Brown (13), Krista Showalter (11) and Jensen Evans (10). For Monroe, Alyssa Brazel knocked down 11.

Issaquah 54, Juanita 50

A big second half propelled the 4A Eagles past Juanita, which led 26-18 at the break. Mandie Hill and Monica Landdeck scored 13 apiece and Mackenzie Wieburg chipped in 12. For the Rebels, ranked No. 10 in 3A, Mikayla Jones had 13, while Kate Cryderman and Molly Grager added 10 each.

Lakeside 51, Hazen 23

Danielle Estell led a balanced Lakeside attack with 12 points and Kaylee Best followed with 11.

Gonzaga Prep 55, Seattle Prep 38

No Gonzaga scoring reported. Prep was sparked by Purshall Artison (14) and Mary Ann Santucci (11).

West Seattle 46, Sammamish 38

Gabby Flores and Hailey Hage set the pace with 13 and 11 points, respectively. Sammamish's Montana Hagstrom poured in 23.

Enumclaw 59, Sumner 53

The Hornets landed three in double figures -- Julia Meyers (13), Jessica Snoen (12) and Calli Remitz (11). Sumner's Nicole Miller scored 10.

Mount Si 58, Eastside Catholic 40

Shelby Peerboom keyed the victory with 15 points, nine rebounds and give steals.

Overlake 36, Oakville 29

Mariel Frank (11) and Katherine Hill (10) led the way
