Revamped NPSL
« on: December 12, 2011, 03:39:04 PM »

Check out this league schedule..... Can't believe these clubs/coaches bought into this kind of a league schedule.

This is an example of what WYS, success of the RCL's, Gary White's long term player development plan.... destroy all non-RCL's.  I'm sure this will be the very last time these teams ever sign up for this...

I recall the NPSL Girls winter league was launched last year.  It started with its first age being GU15 plus any older girls team that were playing in other leagues and looking for a change (state, PSPL, D3, etc.).  Last year they had 17 total teams in GU15 and GU16. This year they have 31 teams total in those ages (16 G96 teams and 15 G95 teams).  Yes, GU17 and GU18 is not there but the league appears to be growing it organically.

Someone should contact the lone 93 94 and 96 teams and move them into the PSPL divisions at their own age.  These girls need to be playing teams their own age/grade.

You guys have no idea what you are talking about...

Fact 1: Most girls have completed their growth spurts by 15 years of age.
Fact 2: 15,16 and 17 year old girls play with and against each other in High School
Fact 3: These coaches and parents and players know much more about these teams wants and desires for competition than any 3rd party spouting off on this web site.
Fact 4: These teams have no interest in PSPL and have decided to play in a league that qualifies them for WYS state cups.
Fact 5: If these teams wanted to travel from Idaho, to Kitsap, to Vancouver, to Mt Vernon in the dead of winter, spending 6-8 hours in the car for a 90 minute game, they would have signed up for one of those leagues. They chose not to.

NPSL is being incredibly smart in offering the ability to set up divisions based on competitive desires rather than rigid age boundaries. NPSL has been very upfront on the teams that had signed up in the various age groups. NPSL has sought the input of coaches on the creation of the divisions and placement of teams in those divisions. NPSL could have shut down GHS to U18 and U17 teams but chose instead to offer flexibility and choice over rigidity.

Scrunch is right in citing the growth of NPSL GHS from last year to this year. I expect the growth to continue as the state league winds down into oblivion. Next year I expect most of these teams to stay NPSL and increased growth across all age groups.

The growth of NPSL is a success story, after birthed from the loins of the RCL and seamless soccer, not a failure.

Wonder if the the RCL will lump all the GU15-19's together for a "High School" age league?  I didn't know the all the credit for the NPSL was spawned from the geniuses.. "loins of the RCL"..... interesting.

It is clear that the NPSL is growing and that the people participating are happy there.
The few "out of age" teams are no big deal, in girls HS ages, select teams often play according to ability rather than age.   District Six has had great success for years with multiple HS age divisions for girls, Gold, Silver, whatever, where the coaches and clubs put the teams into divisions based upon ability rather than age.   Further, the older that teams get, the more likely they are to have play ups on them.
The criticisms so far of the NPSL on this threat show more about the lack of soccer knowledge by the critics than any deficiency in the NPSL.

EW, what the heck, it's just girls soccer... along with eliminating ages, Gold, Silver and whatever... why don't we just eliminate age requirements... maybe put weight classes on player cards, it might help prevent injury on the girls side.   Yes, a lot of ignorant threads here.  I think the NPSL might have something going on here.

Hmm, seems like a lot of vitriol for just posting the teams in 2 leagues where many District 1 & 2 teams play and a few off-hand opinions about placement.  Anyhow---though I know nothing---I think it's interesting to see where teams play at the select level in the Puget Sound since there are 3 fairly big leagues operating.  My experience has not been that parents have any say in what league to play in.  This is my experience with 2 clubs.  You have a "say" at tryouts, I guess, but I yet to hear of coaches sitting down with parents and players and discussing the options and then allowing parents/players to decide where they want to play and which cup (WYS vs USC vs whatever).  Also in the 2 clubs (WYS and USC) where I've had experience---both at the select level---the coaches did not have a say.  Level of play, yes; tournaments, yes; league to play in, no.   But I realize I am ignorant and have very limited experience in these things as my experience is limited to 1 DD at U15 with 2 select clubs (and DS at younger level).
