Where are all the players?
« on: December 14, 2011, 09:36:11 PM »

Just heard from National that WYS has a few more than 87,000 registered players. Interesting!! I know many have gone to US Club, but at our peak we were over 135,000 players. Is this really what Terry and Doug's plan of action from the beginning was to reduce our belived soccer program to rubble? It is working, regardless. Soon, it is going to cost the surviving kids much more to play in WYS than now as the salary budget keeps creeping up.

Good question, Point man.
I don't know where you get your information, but anyone that bothered to do the division on last years budget vs actual could see the membership had dropped under 100K.  Its not surprising to hear it dropped under 90K the following year.
I don't think WSYSA ever reached 135K, they liked to include all the players in Washington that are playing soccer anywhere in their numbers; WSYSA did reach 124K+ at one point.   I don't think the PSPL is anywhere near 30K players, yet, probably closer to 7-9K.

So, its back to your question.   Where did they go, and why?   Oregon?   Basketball?   Lacrosse?

Assuming the source is the same document, the membership fees are spread across line items 1000i, 1010i and 2500i. Add those line items divided by the player fee, it's in the neighborhood of 124,000 players.

The original poster said the 87,000 figure came from "National". From the National Association of Realtors? The National Audubon Society?

I might be able to shed a little light on this subject.

Every month US Youth Soccer release a registration report which indicates what each State has. What you have  probably seen (or been told) is the number from Washingtons current registration statistics and not what they will be at the end of the year. Most State Associatiosn report every few months and typicaly before Christmas they do not contain most of the Fall high school players.  Come Spring time the numbers all begin to fall into place and the final picture is painted.

Washington did report well over 100,000 players last year to US Youth Soccer.
