Is Jimmy Gabriel Moving to Montana?
« on: October 06, 2005, 03:53:19 PM »

I heard a rumor that Jimmy Gabriel was imminently moving to Montana to be closer to his grandchild. He was UW men’s assistant, Sounders assistant and Crossfire BU16 P3 and BU12 coach and he was great at training young coaches all over the state.  I hope it is just a rumor because it would be a sad day if this area lost Jimmy.

Yes. His last match as a Seattle Sounder asst. coach was the win in the final!

Jimmy will be missed greatly. I hope he enjoys his well-earned retirement!

Has he gone or will he finish the season with his Crossfire teams?  They still have 8 weeks to play and I don't believe he's the kind of guy to walk out on them.

I don't know.

They made a "big deal" of his last SOUNDERS match since he'd been with the club on and off for over 30 years!

I am sure if he has committments at Crossfire that he will honor them.

(Of course it is possible that Crossfire has known about this and someone else was planned to step in.)

My guess is Jimmy will be around until his Crossfire teams are done. To be sure I'd ask one of their directors.

I do know that he will be moving to Montana. He will leave his U16 team at the end of the month and Jim Thomas will take over.  As to his other team I don't know

Jim Thomas is it the same guy that was at NWN? I thought he moved? If Crossfire has retained him they have made another great move he was great for NWN gave them two states champs. If they let him go you can see why they are going to stay the TENTH best club in the state.LOL LOL is ten to high?.

Jim Thomas is a fine coach. The team should be fine, and in fine hands.

Jim Thomas has also brought some discipline and respect as the new Head Coach for the Edmonds Community College Triton's soccer team after having significantly raised up the quality of Roosevelt's soccer program.

He is a strong proponent of quality education and all 18 of his of his former BU18 NWN team players continued on to college. In fact 15 of the 18 graduating seniors will be representing NCAA college soccer; 14 of 'em at the Division 1 level (details: .http://athletics.edcc.edu/%5Fsoccer/).

He only came on at Edmonds CC shortly before the start of the season and is already making a strong contribution to their program.  (Enterprise story: http://www.enterprisenewspapers.com/index.cfm?action=story&storyid=20059221057440

I'm sure Crossfire hates to lose Jimmy's knowledge, passion, and sense of respect for the game.  My own children have attended some of his prior camps and thought he was a wonderful coach and great for kids.

Jimmy will be sorely missed by all who know him, but the Crossfire teams affected by Jimmy's retirement will also be in the very capable hands of a known quantity, Jim Thomas.

Keep your eye on all of Thomas' teams over the next couple of years and see if I'm right...

One reason that so many Crossfire teams keep winning is because that organization now draws many of the best coaches, which in turn draws many of the best players to their teams. Thomas is but the latest example.
