Remembering When -- This was the greatest time of the year
« on: January 11, 2012, 11:28:19 AM »

I was looking at the various threads this morning and I kind of went back to the day not too long ago, when January through March was the greatest time of the year and this website was smoking hot with predictions, games played, who was going to win their brackets, the slimy coaches recruiting during state cup, wins/losses etc etc etc.  Now with the new and improved system in place within Washington Soccer I see teams leaving the state, the Sounders new broadcaster and some guy trying to sell medicines with spam info......Just a thought for you as you go through your day.

I love peeking in on older threads and remembering.
Remembering when this site was so active that seeing 300 to 400 members online was the norm and not because there was a hot topic going on.
Remembering the blah blah blah threads.
Remembering when CP's loved to talk about their DD's and the teams they played on, no matter where they played.

Kids get older and CP's go from gung-ho soccer mentality to I'll sit back and just enjoy the ride.

As for WYS, it just seems like they are trying to recover their losses at the hands of USCS. Sorry WYS, you can only screw over so many people so many times. Those leaving are tired of the crappola, the run-around and general bs that you throw their way. The you must do this/be this isn't going to gain you anymore players.

Spambots have always been around Yote. It just used to be that Squash was always around and could banish them as soon as they posted. He's a busy soldier now ;D
I am glad that this forum polices itself. Makes it so much easier to enjoy this site without all the 'your team/ coach sucks' attitude or name calling ( Triple play and EW are an exception )

I'm new to the CP scene, but I'm pretty excited about this time of year.  My oldest DD's team, I think, is going to have a great year (although they played terrible in their season opener and were lucky to tie) and am excited to see my youngest DD's team start in a few weeks.

I just don't have any predictions or scandalous/slanderous gossip, and don't see that anybody would be much interested in hearing that the game was pretty chilly, the other team played with a skilled entertaining style, and their parents and coaches seemed nice.

I'd guess I'd describe myself as being gung-ho about getting to enjoy the ride!   :drinks:

Ahhh yes...those were the good ol' days, weren't they!   :D

There was so much drama going on back then.  I'm just glad dd's team wasn't involved in any of it!  Oh wait, yes it was. :-\ lol  Well, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.  A lot of the players are now committing to colleges, while some are already frantically filling out college applications!!  :o How time flies!

To the new generation of CPs...step back from all the drama of youth soccer and enjoy it while you have the chance!  Before you know it your dks will be in high school and contemplating their futures beyond club soccer.

That is not what I was saying Bathos -- What I meant was this was state cup time -- the culmination of a long year, where all teams were now able to compete against the best the state could offer in a very long tourney, to determine our regional qualifier.. I could care less about the drama that went on (although some of it was quite entertaining).  I just wanted to say "Oh how the soccer landscape is changing".

Now my daughter is in her senior year of college, studying abroad and telling me about the FC Roma game she was able to go to in person this past weekend.  Said the environment was CRAZY!!!!

This is so true Roadie! Middle DD is now at Central studying to be a paramedic ( hopefully after that a Dr at some point ). Soccer has taken a SLIGHT backseat. She still plays whenever she can and may tryout for the school team next year. Her U11 days are 10 years in the past and time FLEW BY!!
Miki is still playing Club ball tho and I'm enjoying what may be her last year.... ;D :(

Yeah - where's Duffer when you need him.  I used to love this time of year and all the talk, the back and forth between us parents.  I guess as some of our kids get older, it's just not the same. Pretty soon I won't know where to go on a Sat. or Sun.  I might have to start going back to church again.

I'm thinking of either coaching or adopting a U11 kid somewhere just to stay in soccer ;D

The snowball starting the avalanche began with the elimination of LPTS, formation of the PDL.... later the RCL's, and then forcing the underprivileged clubs and teams from "playing - in" in order to qualify for WSYSA State Cup.

Of course at the WSYSA Board level, everything is peaches and cream, with the Exe salary increasing to over $ 200,000.00 in 2011, from a low of $ 66,000.00 when WSYSA actually had a level playing field for all teams (LPT's).
