Most academies have pulled their boys out of HS soccer - quite rightly.

I have heard that the pre-academy kids can play but not the academy kids.  That's just hearsay, not personally been told that.

How many Pre-A kids are in HS?   Isn't the team geared for U-14s?

Pre Academy is mostly Freshman/Sophomores.  PA can play HS soccer but discouraged.  Bottom line is no missing practices for a competing HS sport (regardless of sport)

Makes sense.
But Soph's?   I thought they would be U-16s.   Does the Academy have different birthyear cutoff dates than USYSA?

My view too for all the reasons stated before. This topic has been pretty well vetted. Some might say beaten to submission.

I am hearing Academy kids will be playing HS ball this Spring.  It's a rumor, not a thing I know.  Anyone else hearing the same?

Just for fun I looked at the US Soccer web page and their write up about USSDA.  A quote from the website as it shows today:

"Can Academy players participate with non-Academy teams during the season?
Full-time Academy players are only permitted to participate on their Academy team, high school soccer team (except in areas where ten month programming is in effect – see below for a complete list) and National Team duty.

Which teams participate in ten month programming and do not allow high school participation?
The entire Texas Division and Northwest Division do not allow high school. The SoCal division teams including: Arsenal, Chivas USA, LA Galaxy, Pateadores, Real Salt Lake AZ, Real So Cal and Strikers do not allow high school. For more information, please contact the Academy Club Director."

It's becoming more and more prevalent and make more and more sense to w/draw these players from HS eligibility. It's not totally dissimilar to the Canadian Hockey League not allowing its players to play HS sports - and no one complains about that.

A few weeks ago Darren surprised the whole academy by announcing they could all play HS this year. Quite a turn around so my DS is excited

From a PR stand point, it makes sense. There are kids that never touch a premier or academy ball and may know nothing or very little about the programs available. Having academy kids in HS promotes the program faster within those HS teams and outside when local news coverage takes place. And it gives the public more opportunity to watch some exciting play! Good for them!   :)

and today there was another note that stated the academy was informed by ussda that academy players could not play HS and if they did would forfeit a whole season of academy play. Pre academy could play however this season. It is the players choice but a no brainer for some with so much to lose
