Wow!  First I have heard of FW and Fury with WPFC.  I have heard that Fury is suppose to have some sort of a vote on some sort of a proposal this weekend.

Personally I don't see how this type of a merger would benefit FW.

I am hearing the state has asked the Reign and WP to enter merger talks to make their numbers bigger...

This would be interesting.  Lots of bad blood between the 2 clubs from competing against each other and stealing each others players over the years.

I stll think it would have been better for HPFC to merg with FWFC...then they would run the whole westside of I-5 in south King and north Pierce...WPFC would be better off merging with Harbor, but there is lots of bad blood there.

Have to think this would have some impact on the potential Fury - WP service agreement.

Is FWFC in the TPCJSA?  If not then how would a merger work?  Does it matter?

FWFC is not part of TPCJSA.  The HPFC and FWFC merger sounds interesting.  I think everyone who competes with WPFC for players, FWFC and Harbor, have a little bit of a bad taste for each other.

...and who would run this new super-sized club?  Seth Spidahl or Rob Walker?  Neither would want to be second fiddle.  Co-directors?  Also they would need a new name for the club (Washington Storm or Washington Rain?)

Geez..just being sarcastic. Players choose where they want to go. Why limit their choices? Bigger isn't always better.

Love how the "state" wants these various clubs to merge to make them bigger - what does this accomplish?  I personally prefer the old lpt way, have had one kid in each method. I liked having options for players at different skill levels close to home. Is the state going to pay for the gas or drive these kids the extra 30 minutes each way it may take some families to get their kids to practice and provide homework help for the lost study time?

I think these mergers are cutting a lot of kids who want to play out of the game.  If you merge 2 clubs that have 2 teams per gender per age group and the new super club can only have 2 teams you are cutting half the kids out of being able to find a team and do what they love - play soccer!

These players are not the next national star but they could someday be the next great coach or coach the next great player, what has happened to teaching a life long love of the game?  I have seen good players quit playing because of the lack of options.  It seems way too focused on producing the next super star or getting that star into a few specific clubs.

A couple of dads at last nights practice had this same conversation.  It seems the state is becoming so focused on producing the next star player and neglecting everything below that.

When the State handpicked who they wanted in the PDL, that was the start of WYS's plan to become the next best thing and win state championships... to bad it's not going to work since they have excluded 75% of the Clubs

To be more precise here, in January 2006 the DoCs of the six largest clubs at the time presented a proposal to the state board under the old by-laws, stating that Washington had lots of players capable of competing at the regional/national level but the state had not produced any regional or national champions. The proposal was to create a two-tier system of big clubs with the six original clubs in the top tier and other clubs in tier two. Implicit but not explicit was the threat that clubs would leave WYS (then WSYSA, in a nod to EW). The state board at the time caved -- by a one-vote margin. The DoCs in charge quickly took the thing behind closed doors, and set up the rules about who would be in and who would be out.

This is so frustrating to watch.  Especially when it seems that so many people are motivated to do things not based on the best interest of the majority of kids playing soccer.  I was hopeful that the Sounders Academy system would take over the role of developing the upper echelon player and allowing the clubs to let kids develop and play soccer.  It doesn't seem to be working that way.  And in the mean time clubs are leaving to play US Club and dividing the soccer community even more.  Crazy!!

OK, the idea seems to be that by creating a small number of "super clubs," you will aggregate the top talent and create teams that are competitive regionally or nationally.  If that's the idea behind all this, then I don't get how this is "forcing kids out of soccer" or "not in the interest of the majority of the players in the state."

Are there not plenty of other options available to kids who aren't talented or motivated enough, or simply don't want to play at the top level?  Which is more beneficial to the majority of the soccer players?  A lot of teams comprised of a few top-tier players but mostly second-tier players, or a few teams with mostly top-tier players, and more teams that are virtually all second-tier players?  Just throwing this out there.  I don't know the answer.

I always thought that ODP or EPD was to pull the great tallent out of clubs and leaves the clubs to build teams and player skills... We wonder why teams and clubs are leaving the State...

Can't understand for sure why the vote continued.  I would think they would want to wait until the whole FW-WP thing shook out.  However, from what I understand the vote was affirmative for signing the service agreement between the two clubs.

Just checked with a parent that was there for the vote and she texted me back that the vote passed 19-16 for the merger.

Not sure talks are even taking place right now with FWFC and WPFC...I hear that it is more of a WYS demand, then these 2 clubs wanting to merge...
