Interesting results early at US club Regionals.  With limited crossover between Us club and WSYSA it is always tough to determine the relative strength of the leagues.  We saw 3RSC (div 3 RCL) beat the fall champs of the PSPL (SSC elite) in a shootout which points to comparable strength between the two teams.

In two games we have the Washington Cup champion ISC Gunners and Tynecastle at the bottom of their groups with a total of 3 goals for and 15 against and 4 losses between the two teams.  Tomorrow is tough for the PSPL contingent with games against Seattle united and SSC Shadow.

In other news the Shadow and VUSA look fantastic!  A Shadow coach told me that #9 missed the entire spring season and state cup with injury which would explain a lot of their struggles in 2012.  She is fantastic scoring both goals in a tie against VUSA!  Vancouver Reds are also looking great with a very strong performance where they diminated the possession against FC Portland, but ended with a 1-1 tie.

I expect that Shadow will win their group after getting a crack at Tynecastle tomorrow.  I would expect Rush, SU copa, and VUSA to round out the semi-finalists.

Anyone know why the semis have 4 wildcards?  Is this based entirely on points or are there group winners and a wildcard?  I would still pick Timbers to win the fourth spot, but possibly FC Portland if it goes just on points.

Winner of group A, top two from a combined B/C group, and one wildcard (from any group). The four advancing teams are reseeded for the semis, which is why they are referred to as "wildcards".

With 4 of 10 teams advancing, a 10-team division is the most generous in terms of advancing. For most numbers, only 1/3 or 1/4 move out of pool.

I don't think VUSA controls its own fate. If Rush, SU, FC Portland, and Spokane all win, they advance.

Not to mention that ASE finished 4th out of 4 teams at the Rainier Challenge last week.

VUSA needed a late goal to get a 1-1 tie against Eugene's Athletica (OPL's Fall Champion). Eugene advances to play Washington Rush. Spokane Shadow plays Seattle Copa.

Athletica loses to Washington Rush 1-2.

These Regionals were a great experience for these girls. Love the intensity and speed of play. We look forward to seeing some of these teams in the NWCL! Well, time for our 5 hour drive home.  :D

An interesting result in what is smaller tournament:

http://www.shscsoccer.com/schedules/46936797/46936888.html

Not the strongest flight, but RSA Elite beat Harbor 5-1 and then 8-0 in the final.  The website shows that RSA was formed as alliance among 5 independent clubs including and (perhaps) driven by SHSC.  While Harbor is not a top ten team, those are some pretty lopsided games.

Can't tell yet how good they are, but it will be interesting to see.  Anyone know of any other results for RSA Elite?

Heard Harbor lost a lot of players this year.

Three Washington teams are among the 20 teams competing in the San Diego Surf Cup on August 4-6. All of the participating teams typically bring guest players to upgrade their respective rosters in anticipation of the top competition that the age group will likely see all year in all tourneys.

Good luck to Eastside FC 99 Red  (NWCL champion), Crossfire 99A Crum, and NW Nationals G99 Red  (State Cup champion) as they battle the "Best of the Best" early next month in the girls U-13 age group.

Are they the SH Revolution team at U13 or is that a different team.

It looks like they are in the Crossfire tournament this weekend in the Silver division.  I guess we are about to see what they have to offer.

It appears to be the Central Washington Soccer Academy team. The technical director for the CWSA program is Gerd Strom. Gerd played at the University of Washington. The link below notes that the CWSA program was founded in 2012.

I hope to be able to put together the first Top Ten ranking posting of the U-13 season at some point in August. However, I want to encourage the posters from Southwest Washington, Central Washington, and the Spokane area to provide their comments on this thread as to which RCL and non-RCL teams should merit consideration as being among the top ten girls teams in this age group.

Please share with the forum which G99 squads look to be the most improved for the upcoming U-13 campaign.

I don't think this is that team.  I believe this is the old Nemisis team that packed up and had to get away from SC and Joe.  The moved to WSA.  Victor used to be the coach and they are now under Todd Stevenson.  They go by CWSA this year.

I could be wrong--but if they are wearing Timbers alliance colors (white or red) then this is the team.

This is indeed the former Nemesis 99 team that left Salmon Creek.

Thanks for the clarification. It appears that the CWSA acronym may stand for Camas-Washougal Soccer Club/Washington Soccer Academy. I note that the CWSA 99 team also had some success (a second place finish) in the top division of the adidas Clash at the Border tourney earlier this month.

Both the VUSA and WSA clubs have now merged. Starting this next spring there will only be one tryout. Both of these teams girls will all tryout for the Vancouver Timbers which means they will have a larger pool of players to create a new team from. It will definitely give them an opportunity to create a stronger combined team provided the egos of the coach that is decided on and the DOC that is chosen does not chase the families away. There is definitely some issues currently in this area.

Yeah.  It is the team out of Vancouver

They lost to VUSA Red 0-2 in the championship, but tied them in group play.  I saw them play for about 15 minutes at Clash and they looked good.

Interesting GU13 action at the Lake Oswego Nike Cup.  Two Washington entrants (Vancouver Timbers and CWSA Valencia) have swept aside the Oregon competition and are playing each other in the finals today.  Timbers and Valencia have combined for a 7-0 record and +17 goal differential against Oregon's finest.

Not exactly accurate. Yes they beat Oregon teams but 13 of those goals didn't come against "Oregons finest". 9 of them came against a very weak Bridlemile team and 4 against a California B team. Timbers Red is by far the best team but Valencia is pretty equal with the top Oregon teams.

Reds dominated play in the final vs Valencia. Score could of been 5-1 easily.

Actually, the 7-0 record and 17 goal differential of the 2 WA teams was against the OR teams only.  Against all teams (except the final game against each other) the 2 WA teams were 8-0 with a +21 goal differential.  Further, the "very weak" Bridemile team only looked very weak against the Timbers.  In their other 2 games, they had a draw and a 1-0 loss to THUSC, who definitely is one of Oregon's finest.

Finally, you can say Valencia was "pretty equal" with OR, but their record was 4-0 against OR with a +5 GD, and none of those were against the team you described as very weak.  Certainly not as overpowering as the Timbers, but they won all 4 games against 4 of OR's best teams.  If they had finished 2-2 against OR, or 1-1-2, I would call that pretty equal.  But not 4-0.

Valencia is no where near the team the Timbers are. At this age scores don't always reflect the game as many coaches are still trying to teach the teams how to play good soccer. Valencia doesn't care about playing good soccer and continue to send the long ball down the field. Yes it gets them some wins this year but unless they change their style of play that won't continue. Hopefully the old coach will step aside and allow the new coach to do his job.

NWCL Girls U-13 Results This Past Weekend
« Reply #385 on: August 27, 2012, 12:02:01 PM »

The first round of the third annual NWCL took place this weekend. The venue of the Portland Community College - Rock Creek campus provided a nice location to host most of the Girls U-13 games. In summary, a total of 18 teams were scheduled to play over the weekend. Washington RCL Division 1 teams fared well and two British Columbia-based squads, Coquitlam Metro Ford G99 Aftershock and South Fraser FC, proved their competitiveness during the first weekend of action. Oregon teams produced better results than the two Idaho teams that made the journey. For some reason, one of the 18 teams (Magnuson Ford Mariners FC) did not play and appears to have withdrawn from the event.

The absence of both Seattle United 99 Copa and Eastside FC 99 Red was noticed. Eastside FC 99 Red won the NWCL title in this age group last year, while Seattle United 99 Copa was clearly one of the top three teams at U-12 in Washington last year. My guess is that both of those squads did not accept invites to compete in the NWCL this year.

The second round of the NWCL season gathers the teams at 60 Acres in Redmond on the weekend of October 6-7.

Since Washington (and the US) use an Aug. 1 99 cut off for U13 teams, are the BC teams, which I thought were formed by just year of birth, permitted to use players with birth dates from Jan 1 - July 31 99? Or, maybe they are creating some hybrid teams for nwcl?

I was at NWCL in Oregon over the weekend (different age group than GU13), and the BC teams were able to field their regular teams with no adjustment for the age bracket difference.  It seemed to put the WA/OR/ID teams at a disadvantage, especially at the younger ages.

Was interested to see how Issaquah and Tynecastle stood up to the competition as DD is in the same division this fall.  It's her first year and we aren't familiar with any of the teams and we get Tynecastle in our second week.  Doesn't look like they fared to well in the first weekend of play.  Issaquah seemed to do ok, not great, but not to bad.

The gap between the RCL and the PSPL appears to have grown over the last year.  Last year, Issaquah was much more competitive in the NWCL than the first weekend this year, and Tynecastle (who wasn't in the NWCL last year) appears to be the weakest team of the NWCL.

Not really relevant to your post, just an observation.  Good luck to your daughter this year.
