LPTs for Next Year will Not Need WSPL U13
« on: June 09, 2006, 01:55:09 PM »

Here is a CP post of why you will not need to play WSPL U13 next year.

These are just a few of the many examples of how when there was a chance (based on rankings and seeding rules) of putting two PDL clubs in to the first game together, the WSPL committee opted to line the PDL clubs against non-PDL clubs which allowed the best advantage to PDL clubs as a whole, and even if I'm wrong its no coincidence that no PDL clubs lined up against each other  (all PDL clubs are in bold):

In Flight A

The Line Up
#1 Whatcom FC Rangers Gold v. Non-Seeded Columbia Timbers ’92 Red
#4 Spokane Shadow v. Non-Seeded Sun City Strikers ‘92

The result, both PDL clubs win their first game.

According to the seeding rules, it would have been just as consistent for the games to be scheduled as follows:
#1 Whatcom FC Rangers Gold v. Non-Seeded Sun City Strikers ‘92
#4 Spokane Shadow v. Non-Seeded Columbia Timbers ’92 Red
The main difference of course would have resulted in Columbia Timbers knocking out Spokane Shadow in the first game.

In Flight B

The Line Up
#1 Washington Premier FC 92 v. Non-Seeded SSC Patriots ’92 Blue
Non-Seeded FCV Justice White v. Non Seeded SSC Falcons
Non-Seeded FCV Justice v. Non-Seeded CSC Velocity
#8 HSA Eagles v. Non-Seeded FC Mukilteo Premiere
#2 NWN Rayos v. Non-Seeded FC Shoreline Blue Fusion
Non-Seed Emerald City White v. Non-Seeded Arsenal Blue ‘92

The result, all PDL clubs win their first game except for HSA Eagles, but no PDL club is positioned against another PDL club even when seeding rules are available.

In Flight C

#1 NWN Nova v. Non-Seeded Sunnyside Strikers
Non-Seeded 3 Rivers Burn v. #9 Extreme Green
#5 EFC Red v. Non-Seeded FC Crush
#2 Dosveedanya v. Non-Seeded Kajumulo Twiga
#6 EFC White v. Non-Seeded NK Fuego United

The result, all PDL clubs win their first game.

In Flight D

#7 Crossfire Stengrund v. #7 FC Silver Lake Sapphire
#7 Snohomish United Spirit v. #6 Norpoint FC

The result, all PDL clubs win their first game.

If any PDL club team was swapped into a game with another PDL club team one instead of two PDL Club team would win.  This way they all can win.

Forget for a moment that this is supposed to be about getting the top teams in the same P1 league.

Rather, consider the likely effect on p2-p4 leagues.  Since the PDL are generally I5 metro based teams, if they are more likely to end up in P1, this also means the P2-P4 leagues are likely to composed to teams from the fringe areas of the state.

In other words, huge statewide travel leagues for limited productive purpose other than burning up parents gas money on never ending weekend soccer trips with gas running over $3 a gallon.

Meanwhile, the largely centrally based metro premier teams and parents are likely to end up in a P1 league with modest travel so they can direct more resources into soccer things -- good training, better coaches, trips to high end competition, etc, etc.

So the ends justify the means and the process works for everyone except the clubs in the Metro Area not a part of the PDL Club group.  For them, its the shaft.

9 the whole point is for the top teams to not knock each other out. there is no reason to have top teams playing p4. If your team is any good they will win. get over it.
