Which Cup?
« on: October 10, 2005, 10:10:49 PM »

Ok Everyone in the know.  Who should be in which cup?  Last year it looks as though GU-11 only had the Commish Cup.  Now we have the Challenge and the Commish.  There were 43 GU-11's in the Commish last year, so can we expect the same this year? It seems to me that the top 12 should battle for the Challenge Cup, and the next 30 or so go for the Commish Cup.  I realize that this probably won't happen, because the teams that think they are number 8,9 10,11,or 12 would probably rather go for the hardware down below.
Regardless, I think that a top 12 ranking, and a next 30 ranking are in order, just to let these teams know where they should be going.  I know there are lots of you who have tracked these U-11's throughout the whole year, so let's have it.

Dragon think you pretty good Idea there ;)
Dragon think a lot of "lower" teams  will want to play up and some teams might play down because scared of too little teams register for challenge cup.
Maybe you should rank all 42 teams then we spread the word to go to appropriate cup

We all know that the clubs are ran by us CP's anyway

See, Just like Dragon say.  Some teams from GP want to play higher cup.  Some D1 Red teams want to too :?

Dragon think one of the cups (comm or challenge) gonna be short changed :|

IMO, teams that are formed with the intention of competing at the State level on down the road should play Challenge.  That would include most D1 teams, all D3 GT and GP and even most of GE.

Commish cup should be reserved for the select teams that are formed to play at the district level in the future.

Now, what to do with the "developmental" C and D teams that some clubs have?  Since these teams aren't really formed to play state later, I guess Commish is for them.  How many C and D teams do you think will continue playing after U-13?.

Dragon know in some clubs the C or D team is a baby team that will play U11 again next year.
It will be fun to see the brackets for both cups, when ever they come out all CP's will have a lot to blah blah blah about
Anyone know projected time/date of release......December maybe?

:D last year they made a big deal of the whole thing. I think it was sometime in Dec. late Dec.  No matter which one everyones DD play in it is a blast. Last year some of the girls trying out for my DD team could not go to the first rtyouts in March because they were still playing so be prepared.

That is Crazy.  What if Dragon kid still in state final race during tryouts.  Then Dragonkid kick game winning goal from 50 yards away to win final for club..............Then Dragonkid get call from coach and say; "sorry, you not make team this year".  That would truely suck  .  Dragon wonder if this ever happen to anyone

Gumby is right on the money IMO.  If your team is formed to compete at the highest level possible, then compete at the highest level possible when given the chance.

I have not run into a big problem with my older DS.
A lot of clubs have tryouts on weekdays so the tryouts can still be made with statecup being played on Sat or Sun.

Most all clubs I can think of do not have tryouts until that age group has completed the finals in the cup.  Tryouts might be the next day with no break at all. :|

So if you were a pretty good player looking for a team... would you choose the team that won Fred Meyer or one that competed in the higher level Challenge and just did okay??????

new cup
« Reply #14 on: October 14, 2005, 05:07:01 PM »

i believe there are a few cp's that are confused with this new cup

i personally think that if this cup suppose to be more challenging to the teams that are in need of a challenge then we should have all the gt's up to this cup instead of commissioner's cup, but if this cup is not as challenging, then i dont think it will matter. i hope that this new cup is as challenging   it would be nice to see all the high level clubs compete in a much higher level for this age group...i believe there are some gp that could compete in this level as well..if the girls are given the oppurtunity to experience this level  maybe they will be more prepared for the state cup at u12

so my question is, will this new cup be higher then the commissioners cup :?:
because some cp's i know have said NO and some said YES ;)

This is the email we got from WSYSA about the Challenge cup.

"The hope for the Challenge Cup is that it will attract the teams that are more advanced at this time than some of the others. So, in this sense it will presumably be the stronger level tournament.

We want to provide an opportunity for success in post season tournament play to more of our players. Thus, the idea to have an additional tournament arose. The Commissioners' Cup is intended to allow those teams that play in a lower level at this time to enter and experience the excitement of a semi-final and final venue.

The Challenge Cup is designed for the teams that are more advanced at this time.

As a side note, I hope to have the Challenge Cup become an opportunity for teams to advance into the WSYL (Division 2). If accepted by the BOD, the finalists in the Challenge Cup would be promoted to Division 2, no matter what level they played at during league. This will allow quality players whose teams have not returned as a team to reform and keep playing instead of quitting. They are one tournament away from rising through the ranks to a Division 2 level.  We hope this will expand and enhance the opportunities for our members."

Stupid Soccer Question
« Reply #24 on: October 15, 2005, 11:15:15 PM »

From the soccer illiterate parent.  How come some teams (like my DD old rec team) play 9 a side at U-11, while others (DD current team) play 11 a side?  I know there was a rule change for small sided soccer, but both of these teams are in the same district.  What would happen if both of these teams ended up in the Commissioner's cup (with the undertstanding - maybe misunderstood) that a rec team could play in the Comish cup if they so chose?  Would the 9 a side team have to come up with extra players?  Is it a rule that Rec play 9, and Select play 11?

That great question, Dragon know rec rules different then select rules.  As far as better answer to comm cup question, Dragon will leave that to soccer genius' like "Sound" and "411"

I believe the 9-a-side team would have to play an extra 2 players for a total of 11.  Cup not going to change rules.
Does 9-a-side play on a modified field, if so they would also have the disadvantage of playing on a full sized field.  little dd legs would get tired :(

If I knew the association that the 9v9 team plays in, I could read their rules and research the answer.  Absent that...I think that the underlying element to any tournament is that they list their rules and its those rules that dictate the terms.  If they list ball is a size 4, 11 players, max roster or 18 etc...then that is what governs the play.  You need only refer to that tournament's rules and with the Fred Meyer's Cup...its 11 vs. 11.   Side but similar note...although it may be comparing Apples to Oranges...I just read on StandingsPlus that  someone is complaining about a U11 team that may not be entitled to enter the President's Cup.  That cup's rules state that its a "recreational" team only tournament.  It's alleged that a select team from Puyallup has entered it and they should be playing in the Fred Meyer's Cup which is for select teams.  Again, you go by the tournament rules.

The 9 X 9 team is a South Tacoma Soccer Club team.  They may not be entering, the coach had just mentioned it to me passing one day when we were chatting, and I was curious.  Thanks for the info!
