I guess this is a mixed bag and will probably sound like I am recruiting but I truly believe this is how things should be.
We are always excited to have players that want to play for us, even if that means they are coming from another team. If they are not happy where they are, I feel it is our job to try to provide them that opportunity. We as coaches are supposed to keep the kids in the game.
On the otherside, if a player is being recruited to play somewhere else and they want to go, I have no problem letting them go.
Will I be upset? Absolutely, but not at the other coach and really not even at the player. The reality is, our team will be better off in the end if they do not want to be here. Why would you want anyone that is unhappy on your team? They are a cancer waiting to spread and will only destroy your team.
We push our players to get to the next level but we do it without degrading them. We are about being honest with them but building their confidence in the process. We will take the time to work with them one on one in practice or by meeting them on a non practice day, or whatever else is needed.
After all that, if a player wants to go somewhere else, then we have no problem with it. If the player is putting in the effort as mentioned above and still wants to go somewhere else then that is definitely their choice.
If they are not and they want to go somewhere else, the problem will not change for them and we have more time and enrgy to spend on the players we do have.
Does that all make sense?
