PNW Girls U11-U18 LP Ratings
« on: March 10, 2016, 11:22:01 AM »

March 9, 2016

With help from htk, I got the girls tables done to U18 (just in time for everything to change with birth-year....).

G04-G97: http://lastplanetranking.blogspot.com/p/girls-index.html

Tables updated with spring leagues games: RCL, OYS, PSPL and NPSL.  PSPL-Inland and Idaho D3 have not started yet.

Match Predictor is hooked up to the girls model: Select PNW Girls in the drop-down to the right of the header.

If you see errors, let me know and I'll fix them!

Thanks! Let me know if you see any game error/mis-matches.  I don't spend as much time poking around the girls tables so it's easy to miss stuff.  Also KU teams are not always labelled with age and 'color/coach' so I've had to guess sometimes.

I'm working on the girls. I have the DRAFT up for G06-G04.  It's a work in progress.  Definitely PM me is you see any match errors.  The younger teams tend to use cryptic names so it was hard to figure out who was who.  And not sure what's going on with Spokane Sounders at the younger ages.  Maybe they used a pool for tournament play?  Summer teams don't seem to match 1-1 to league teams.

Thanks! I fixed the errors and a few more that I discovered in the OR G06 data.  I'm scraping in the G06 Chinook Cup data, but will re-run with that tomorrow night when I get the weekend games updated.

Ok, Re-ran with the Chinook Cup data tonight + the FWRL G04s + NKSoccerFan has been busy and entered the Beaverton Cup+Tyee Cup data. I included those too.  Next up are the G03s.

Keep the corrections coming! I'm fixing those and re-running the tables as I get them.  I plugged away last night (and am) to get the G03s up.  I haven't looked as those much.  I'm sure there is lots to fix.  I don't have many ECNL games so you won't see the local ECNL teams yet (they need 8 games to appear on the tables).

G06-G03:

--After a late night of working on the tables, I have to rant a bit.

New fad this year, forgoing colors and using one color with 1, 2, 3.  Red 1, Red 2, Red 3 really?  Using colors to denote the 'class' of the team.  So, we have white 1 and white 2 which are the 'premier' teams and green 1 and green 2 which are the 'select' teams.  Except that the teams don't seem to like to use these boring names so use say 'Avalanche' in summer and then their club designates them 'Green 2' (bleah) for the league.

What it is with clubs that use 3 different names for the same team and change their naming or color scheme every year!  Thankfully the most of the big clubs (SU, Eastside, FCP, Westside, PacNW, Bend FC, Capital FC) use a consistent naming scheme and almost always have color/designation and age.  Crossfire, how hard is it to put A, B, or C in with the coach name??  Spokane Shadow, please use something, anything, unique.  Wenatchee Valley, you have set a new low for using team names (or maybe you don't use team names?).  WPFC, why can't you just put ECNL on your top team name?  That's what clubs in other parts of the country do.  So WPFC Black ECNL not WPFC ECNL with the B team relabeled Black (and playing in D4) and the C team White.

The girls G06-G02 ratings are up on the public blog.

http://lastplanetranking.blogspot.com/p/ratings.html

Take a look and email or PM me corrections.  Idaho is generally a mess.  They often use vague names.  And BC, well just ignore them.  The BC girls teams/clubs don't do the whole team name/age thing at all.

The WA girls and OR girls are hopefully ok.  Spokane and Wenatchee areas still have quite a few errors as too many teams used different or vague names in tournaments, but I've gotten some help from those familiar with the G06 and G05 ages.  Hopefully more EWA posters will take a look and send in corrections.

The girls G06-G00 ratings are up on the public blog.   I've extended to G00 but those tables won't stabilize until the RCL and PSPL league games come in. For the latter, that's not for awhile.  Also I have yet added in the out-of-state tournaments for G00 (like Surf), so many of the top teams don't have 7 games yet and don't appear on the main tables.

The girls G06-G00 ratings have been updated with WA, OR, ID league games, WYS and OYS Championship and President's games, WA Cup, and USYS National League.  I haven't put in the ECNL league yet as I have to enter that by hand until I code up a new scraper (their website changed).  But some ECNL teams are there since they played in some tournaments (esp Surf) and younger ages in fall RCL league.

LP, how are you going to deal with the impact of the girls DA? Crossfire, SU & Eastside all are feeding into DA teams and thus rebranding their B teams as A teams. IE SU Copa is now the SR DA so SU rebranded the Tango team as Copa and their Samba team as Tango. Crossfire has renamed their B team as ECNL. I am not sure about Eastside but I have seen their A team being called Eastside SR2 vs. Eastside Red.

I think the more significant issues for rating in the long run are that DA teams won't play enough games period, and ECNL teams play most of their teams in an isolated pool. That isn't an accident - it's deliberate. Bureaucrats of the so-called "elite" leagues don't want their "eliteness" tested on the field.

However the characterization that clubs simply "rebranded" existing teams is generally false. For example, for 03 and up, SU's DA teams were made of old ECNL teams, not RCL teams. At those age groups, also true of Crossfire, even though they are keeping ECNL. Not much promotion from RCL to form ECNL teams either, at least at the older ages.

There has always been quite a lot of player movement at the older ages even without the league diarrhea that we are facing this year.

This has not happened at the older ages, and is only somewhat true in the younger ages.  For example...no players from SU G02 Copa are on the DA team. (many actually left)  the 02 reign team only kept maybe 2/3 the players.  Three players didn't make DA and sent down to Copa, 1 player to Eastside Red, and lost 3 to other clubs.  Same with the other Copa teams... no players from RCL1 were brought up to DA.  What they attempted to do is sent players down from ECNL back into RCL.  This didn't really go well and any player that was good left from Crossfire or Wa Premiere.

Reign 02 ECNL - 2/3 are now DA
Copa 02 (now RA2 G02) - RCL D1, same core players with 4 new players from Tango and 3 from reign.
Tango 02 - RCL D2, same core players with 5 new players from Select or other clubs

Crossfire is a different story.  Their 02/01 DA team took 5 players from 02 ECNL, and 11 from 01 ECNL
Crossfire 02 ECNL is pretty much intact, with 11+ players from last years team and 8 new players from outside the club.  Player count up from 15 last year to 19+
Crossfire 02A is also pretty much intact with 15 + core players from last year and 3 new players from B

No Eastside players in any age were brought up into DA that I know of...and from what has been said I don't expect any to be brought up in the future.
