players of the week
« on: October 15, 2005, 08:53:54 PM »

Dragon,I don't mean to be a downer....but don't you think that listing names, numbers and the teams that these girls play on is a great way for a pedophile to gain access to our DD's. Since this website doesn't require WSYSA RM numbers or background checks on those of us reviewing this information, I really think that we need to use caution and not exploit our little ones. Possibly use thier number and team name and avoid more private information such as names and ages.Just something to think about. Thanks,Cinderella

Dragon think you pretty new to this forum, Squash make it rule long time ago that name and number etc is OK, if you see "player pen" area long ago before the "crash" have lots of DD and DS name number and picture.  If we no want on DD picture and name available then we better take off team (most team have name and number roster assesable to all)     Plus sicko's who look for kids could find lots of other ways if they want to, a sicko is a sicko :x

If you no want your DD name or number then no nominate ;)

BTW-thank you to all the CPs who have been PM dragon today with your nominations,  Dead line is tomorrow at 6pm

We could shelter our kids and lock them up too. The bottomline in my book is good parenting and teaching your kids the right things. Try and remember the state does this for coaches, not for each parent or spectators on the sideline, that is your responsibilty to teach your child to stay out of danger. Many teams and clubs have pictures, accomplishments, and email addresses of players.

Worrying about things like this isn't worth the time...teach your player the right things and reactions, and sleep at night knowing you've done what you could.

Oh and I'm not trying to downplay the issue, I just believe parents play the largest role in their childs lives. I hope it doesn't sound that way.

I may be new to the site but in my opinion, if we don't watch out for our DD's, then who will. Call me overly protective, but a sicko is a sicko and I don't need to give him any more information than what he is able to access on his own. Oh, and I will never nominate my own DD for this site, seems like something that only the coaches should be doing...a bit bold if you ask me since we all think that our own DD is all that! OK , I'll take a chill pill and go clean the floors. ;) Cinderella

I'm with Cinderella on this one
« Reply #4 on: October 15, 2005, 09:48:27 PM »

I have to admit I'm with Cinderella on this one.  Our team info, other than a group photo with no names, is behind a Coach-approve-only password protected website.  You can teach your children to stay out of danger, but when that danger starts coming into your house with a shotgun and tying you up to take your kids away......I'm not sure how you can teach them to avoid that.  I think you've got to be on the offensive, not defensive, when it comes to child predators.  I've done a lot of investigative work on the web for my job, and it is downright scary what you can find out if you know where to look.  I think part of teaching our kids about danger is to teach them not to put information out on the web where someone can track it.  And if we expect them to follow those guidelines, then we should follow them too.    Maybe first names is ok, but I'd shy away from last names.    :)

I split the topic, because it's important to understand this site promotes players and recognition of them..dragon helps to do that for the U-11 age.

Ths site has and will continue the use of players names in a positive manner. That's what dragon does, and I applaud him for it.

I stand by the fact that numerous clubs, and teams list game times, players pictures and names, and other things.

I have no problem with using first names or numbers on this site at all.
There is a better chance that one of these "sicko's" will just show up to a game and hear the parents cheering on little "suzie" to boot it than he will by accidently finding this site on the web.
I understand your concern 100%, I have my own dd to keep an eye on, but anyone within earshot of us will know our dd's names.
It's too bad the world has to be like it is, but we have to live in it and do the best we possibly can.
Let the players enjoy their name in lights for a day...it will last for a lifetime ;)

I hope I did not come across as expressing negativity to what Dragon does, quite the contrary, Dragon's posts are one of the main reasons I'm here.  I was just expressing agreement with Cinderella that we be cautious in the information we give to people concerning our children, that's all.  Anything that builds their confidence I'm all for, as long as we are safe.  Peace.

Along with areas of school, malls, movie theatres, parks, and 1000 other places. My point being these things happen daily and are sad, but  AOL chat, and Microsoft's Chat messenger systems are a more likely culprit than a site like this. Anything is possible ......

I didn't take people views as negative really. Just I refuse to live a life of fear and let these concerns limit what "I do"

There is a thin line on protecting and over protecting.  It doesn't take too much effort to get a roster from a team and you can google the rest

Hi all - this is an interesting topic.. my daughter is older, but I still do feel the need to be protective.  Unfortunately, I am with those who say that if a sicko is going to gain access to your child - he/she will, no matter if they are on this site, or somewhere else.

Cinderella - just wait till your daughter is old enough to drive herself and be out in the world without you taking her everywhere.  This has just occured with my DD and let me tell you - I'd go back to your childs age in a heartbeat!!  Every time the phone rings - I catch my breath a little.  She has already been in one car accident - not her fault, thank goodness.. but between that and other teenage things - I'm aging before my time!! LOL

In the end - you can only do what you can do - and I agree with Squash 100%  - I refuse to live in fear and let others dictate how I, or my children live our lives!!

As far as Honky goes - interesting screen name - and I think I'm glad you cleaned up the avatar, Squash!!     LOL ROFL

Have fun all - and good luck to all your little DDs - remember - they don't stay this age for nearly long enough!!!
