Wow, cool list.  I am new here, Blue Chip.  Did you explain your ranking methodology in another post, if so give me a link.

For instance, I wonder why my team, Shooting Stars Yakima, is ranked 20 spots below WV United, when the Shooting Stars beat WV United head to head on June 24th in the Mid Summer Classic in Yakima.

Actually my rankings aren't based on cumulative points, so it really doesn't matter how many tournaments or games you play. It is based on averages of every game you play. If you only play one game against a ranked team, you will get a value, but the more games you play, the more accurate your ranking will become.

That is as much definition as I can find on Bluechip's method. I asked a similar question a while back about our team's placement and it went unanswered, I guess that's the way it goes. The polls are interesting in they get people talking and my hat goes off to Bluechip for having the time to put some sort of measuring tool together to gauge this talented group of kids. We have the opportunity to play 2 teams that are ranked ahead of us here in 2 weeks in the Crossfire Tournament (one of which we beat in head to head play in the Rainier challenge final 6 weeks ago). So in the end all questions will be answered on the pitch the way it should be.
Welcome and good luck,

Sa

The prefect thing to go along with this list would be a list of coaches phone numbers that might be shared with interested coaches so thery can get games with teams that they do not know.

Thanks for the friendly welcome, Drag & Spam.  I just have a standard rec team from Yakima, but we have a lot of fun playing in tournaments all over, it's great experience.  We get our clocks cleaned pretty thoroughly some times, but we win once in a while, too.  We have played around 20 games against teams on this list, so it is really cool that the list is here.

Well if they playin' in tourments and have beaten or gave a good run ta some team on the list, maybe you should call them a "tournament team", instead of a rec team ;)

They deserve it

Welcome SS95. :)
The rankings are an average of all games played.  In the Yakima tournament that you speak of, I'm showing that you beat WV 5-4, lost to Mukilteo Angels 13-2, and lost to CB United 8-0, where WV United lost to Mukilteo 5-3, and CB United 5-1.  All of these games weigh the same, so taking the average of all of them for both teams would put WV ahead of you.  Also, 20 spots is not much.  They are stacked pretty tight in there.
If you have results from other matchups against any of the ranked teams, I would love to see them.  PM me if you want, and I'll get them plugged in.
Hang in there U-11 peeps, things will adjust accordingly over time.

I love statistics and rankings BC. It takes a lot of work to look up all that info and keep it all straight.  We appreciate all you do, Blue guy! ;)

It's also great that you are ranking both the 94's and 95's.

THANKS!!!!!!!!

Yeah, my teams' total thumpings in MSC.  :)

Thanks for the response, Blue Chip.  I thought it was something like games against common opponents and such.  Just wondering.  I think #72 actually might be a tad high for us.  Do you count games in small sided tournaments like Yak Attack?

I am not going to change anything about my coaching because of these rankings, however.  I could just stack 8 people in the box against a better team and try to keep the score down, but I don't think it would serve my goal of developing skillful soccer players.

Hey BC...good job.  One suggestion if you can do it...it seems margin of victory should probably only be considered to a point as most good teams that are dominating will changes things up at some point, i.e. make them score on a cross or whatever.  Maybe after the difference in score goes beyond 5, then it shouldn't still keep increasing the "ranking" of you team after that margin of victory.  For example, a team would not benefit anymore from a 6-1 win as compard to a 11-1 win.  In either case, the game was dominated. Not sure what you're using to do this, but something like this would be very possible in an Excel spreadsheet.  Just a friendly suggestion that might improve on what you already have.  Thanks!

Yes, I have a threshold of 6 goals.  Anything above that I look at individually.   If a team's ranking is such that they should beat another team 11-0, and they only beat them 9-0, I won't drop the winning teams ranking because they didn't score 2 more goals.  I will however raise the losing teams ranking for holding that strong of a team to 9 goals.  Anything over a 6 goal differential gets ranked differently in this way.

And SS95, I would certainly hope you wouldn't change your coaching style and philosophy over these rankings      They're just for fun

So if a team wins 4-0 because they didn't want to run up the score and beat them 10-0 they drop in your poll?

Not sure how else to do it.....but it kinda hurts the team that elects to not destroy an opponent.

Still a great job BC

I keep an eye on it as much as possible.  I put my limit at 6 goal differential.  I also rely heavily on PM's regarding these types of situations.  As much as I'd like to be on every sideline, Mrs. Blue Chip just won't allow it.   But like I said, I don't penalize teams rankings for not running up the score.
Also, as a team gets more games in, I can look at their whole log of games, and if there's one that is way off base compared to all the others, I generally just wash it out.

BC-TeamAuburn is fanatical about not going above 5-0 in a game.  Sometimes the coach can't stop it from happening, but a lot of effort is put in to holding at 5-0.  So when you see TeamAuburn at 5-0 you don't know if it could have been 10-0 or 5-0.  There is no value to anyone going above 5-0.
